Great post well enjoyed reading this. This has inspired me to start another game as Ipswich and this is my game so far.

Preseason went well winning all my 5 matches. I lost the first game of the season against Fulham but since then I am unbeaten in the league (6 games) sitting 3rd and through to the 3rd round of league cup where I have drawn Norwich. Already beaten them in the league 4-2. I'm playing a 4-1-2-2-1 so my 1st choice line up is:
GK:Barts
RB:Chambers
CB:Berra
CB:Blackett
LB: Parr
DM: Skuse
CM:Hyam/Bishop
CM:Collison
AMR:Eagles
AML:Grealish
SC:Murphy

I've got Blackett, Grealish and Bonazzoli on loan for the season. And Grealish, Collison and Murphy have been excellent. Chambers & McGoldrick both wanted to leave but as no bids came in for them they've said they are now happy to stay. I've only sold Tommy Smith as he wanted to go to Crystal Palace. The game of the season so far was I was 2-0 down to Derby and Collison then got sent off. I changed my tactic for last 25 mins to Mr Hough's tactic and came back to draw 2-2.

Awesome that you enjoyed reading this. Glad to know :) Happy to have inspired your new save too!

Some decent signings there man. I really hummed n harred over eagles! My brother said he is really really good??

Hows Blackett doing?

Grealish and Bonazzoli really are amazing! Especially at that level too!

Really good start to the season for ya! You think you'l go up first year?

Definitely keep me updated with how you get on :-) Always a pleasure to hear about other Ipswich saves!

Good luck!

Hope you continue to this story and keep me updated :-)

Pre-Season 2016/2017

Pre season this year sees a small change in tradition. George Burleys usual tour of Scotland has been swapped with a Tour of USA instead this year. After Ipswich's higher than expected finish last season and the rise in reputation of a few young players who are catching the eye of managers worldwide. Burley saw this is as the perfect time to try break into America. Many teams in Europe tour the USA now as they continue make such high profits in merchandise sales across the pond. A successful tour of USA would mean becoming affiliated with an American side over the course of the season. If Ipswich fail to make any affiliations from the USA tour, George has said he will attempt a different country next season. With all the big teams going to America it would be hard for Burley to really attract interest in what is really still a small club.
Perhaps the likes of China, Hong Kong or Korea could prove more suitable places to affiliate.

Nott'm Forest & Aston Villa both offered a friendly to Ipswich immediately after the season ended. Aston Villa fans would have been keeping a close on this friendly as of course they would get to see the wonderkid who has been loaned out season after season to Ipswich for the past 2 years, Jack Grealish. His loan has been extended for an astonishing 3rd season on the trot. Surely Villa fans will be wondering when they will get the chance to see him in their own colours. After falling into the Championship in the 2014/15 season and failing to come straight back up last season. Youve got to wonder if they ever will. Ipswich and George Burley will be adamant they can finally snap up this young winger on a permanent basis. Building up a close relationship with the fans and the club will surely leave Ipswich in pole position for any potential transfers for Grealish.

Pre season in 2016/17 would see Ipswich continue one tradition however. The friendlies with local sides, Needham Market & Ipswich Wanderers would continue for a 3rd successive season. This time Burley invited them to Portman Road. Night games at Portman Road are always special and it was a nice gesture from the club to give the 2 local sides an opportunity to play at such a wonderful ground.
With crowds lower than expected last season at Ipswich, despite the wonderful season they had. Arranging 3 home games at Portman Road rather than the usual 1 or 2, was a good chance for Ipswich to lower ticket prices in an attempt to lure more fans and also more possible season ticket sales.
Although the local sides are not going to provide much of a challenge to Ipswich it is still a chance to see some new signings and youngsters.
Ipswich would end their pre season this year at Portman Road against one of the top 3 sides in Spain, Atletico Madrid. With ticket sales remaining cheap, this was the real chance Burleys men to put on a show and give these fans a reason to come back in a few weeks time for the start of the Premiership season where Ipswich will be looking to possibly get back into Europe. Something which hasnt been done since the 2002/03 season where Ipswich were knocked out in the 2nd round of the Uefa cup (Europa league) by Slovan Liberac 4-2 on penalties.
Ipswich famously the year prior actually beat Inter Milan 1-0 in the first leg at Portman Road courtesy of an Alun Armstrong penalty. The return leg at the San siro was just as memorable but perhaps not as cheerful as Inter Milan showcased their real skills beating Ipswich 4-1 to send them crashing out of the tournament.

Ipswich Town FC actually hold a very remarkable record in Europe. They are the only team in England to remain unbeaten at home in the European cup competitions. A record held very dearly by all Ipswich Town fans. More in particular the older generation who will remember their success in 1981.

Could last seasons up rise be this seasons downfall??.....
With success, comes more pressure.
After finishing in 8th position on our return to the Premiership, our board and the media now expect to repeat a similar feat this season and finish at least Top half / Mid table.

After last season and the new signings we made this summer i can certainly agree to an extent that we should be finishing in the top half again.
In fact im aiming to break into the top 7. The very least i expect is to finish 8th again. We simply cannot finish any lower than last season. If we do than for me that would be failure.

An incredibly tough start to the league for the second year on the trot now. The first 6 games of the season will Ipswich travel to Man City, Everton & Tottenham and welcome Liverpool, Arsenal & Chelsea to Portman Road. Some will look the opening fixtures petrified of what sort of position and state of morale it could leave the squad in for the rest of season. Whereas others will see it as getting rid of the hard games to concentrate on the real games Ipswich can win.
Ipswich will look at last season and try to forget their encounters their against the so called "bigger" sides.

Ipswich finished 8th last season. Trailing behind, 1st Man Utd, 2nd Chelsea, 3rd Tottenham, 4th Liverpool, 5th Arsenal, 6th Everton & 7th Man City.

Their record against all of these sides in the league last season look like this;

1 win & 2 draws in 14 matches against these sides makes for horrific reading. So if history is to repeat itself, Ipswich could find themselves in the relegation zone after the 6 matches. If confidence has been damaged it will take a big effort to climb back up the Premiership table
This record has to change if Ipswich are to break into the top 6/7.

Hope you all liked my little tables ive just done hahaha. Got my jotter and pen out. Makes for an interesting read actually and makes you think about the struggles the lower teams actually have in real life!

I'll be back at the end of August as this season i will be doing monthly updates!

Excellent pre season uve had there. Blackett is doing really well, only signed him as a back up as was going to play Berra and Chambers as CBs with Hewitt as RB but whenever Blackett played early season he played excellent so decided to stick him. If I can carry on like I am I can see no reason why I can't get promoted. Had another quick couple of games and beat Wigan 2-1 and then thrashed Norwich in the 3rd round of Capital One Cup 7-1 couldnt believe it hahaha. Although did use Mr Houghs tactic for that game and strikers just gelled with Murphy, McGoldrick, Bonnazolli, and Will Keane who I got on loan all scoring.

Nice! Be sure to keep Berra playing every so often though, unless you have plans to sign Blackett it can always be a little dodgy to develop another teams player rather than your own.

7-1 against Norwich....WOW!! Epic effort there! You got screenshot of it? Always exciting to see Town beat Norwich in any shape or form haha!

If Mr houghs tactic is working for you, why not just play it all the time?

Ive played 3 and lost 3 in the league so far. August has been a ****** ****** month. BUT on the plus side, i did smash Wimbledon with my weaker side. Daryl Murphy reminding me that he is still capable of bagging a goal or 4 :-P.
I didnt expect to win any of my first 6 league games so ive still got another long month ahead!
Im just praying if i do lose my first 6 games the board take into consideration the calibre of teams ive been playing and dont start getting concerned!
If they do il definitely have to show them my little table i made up in the post above haha.
If i they sack me for losing these 6 games i will actually rage like i never have before hahaha. Ive calmed down a **** of a lot with computer games now. Ive learnt to just turn it off and walk away lol. ITS JUST A GAMEEEEEE is what i try to tell myself!

In all seriousness though, yeah ive lost all 3 games. But in each game, i conceded the first goal but then equalized pretty much straight away. I only just narrowly lost by 1 goal in each fixture too. For me, this is still slight progression. Apart from the Man City game, the match stats prove i stood toe to toe with them. So maybe on another day, it could have been a win for us.

View attachment 307655

Im not paying much attention to the league table at the moment. Once ive actually reached 15 games or so and ive played teams of a similar standard. Then ill start worrying where we are or are not in the table.

AUGUST AWARDS

Will Hughes wins Young Player of the Month & Federico Bonazzoli comes runner-up. It says alot about well my team played in our opening games. To lose 3 games out of 3 but still provide 2 players in the same award for the month. Thats got to be promising. Just a shame i cant fill the rest of the team up with players like these two. Maybe a board takeover in a year or so might creep out of nowhere!
Ive never had a board takeover at a club a managed, definitely not a tycoon anyway. Before i done this save id never had my stadium rebuilt either....so maybe......Getting my hopes up now :-/

PHEW.....Relieved i managed to settle that one nice and calmly.
It did get me worrying for a second!

Its so easy to get those conversations wrong, and before you know it, the whole dressing room goes on strike!
I think the majority of players react the same way though once you get used to these player conversations.

This is true! Cant be too disappointed. It is still only my 2nd season in prem too. Think i might look at buying 3 or 4 wonderkids next season if i can find some on the cheap.

Dya reckon i should change my other leagues to france/german/spain/italy etc yet?

The perfect month for Ipswich! 3 wins against teams nobody expected us to beat. Beating Arsenal, Tottenham & Chelsea one after the other really shows how far we have come. Murphy even scored in two of those league games. We pretty much dominated them games too which is wicked! The results in the Capital One Cup show how the depth in my squad has improved also. Ive been playing pretty much a whole rotated side for the cup games yet still dominating. A few first team players dropped because of new signings are now trying to force their way back into the XI with performances in the cup. Murphy has already done so. Considering dropping Dybala just while he settles in.

We now have 12 games against teams we should be beating! Before playing Man Utd, Man City, Everton, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham & Chelsea all on the trot. The fixtures computer has really stitched me up this year! A 6 match run of top teams at the beginning of the season and then a 7 match run against the top 7 teams who finished above me last year in January. Luckily for our cup run we have had relatively easy opposition so far so i was able to rotate whilst also progressing in the cup.
The only trouble with the run in January is, all of those 7 games come on Saturdays and then midweek. To play all of those teams in the space of a month is just ridiculous! Delia Smith has been bonking with the FA Chairman Greg **** i reckon!! Cheeky little minx!

Some decent results over October & November. The 2 games i lost im not happy with. But if id have won them i would have been 1 point behind top place. So i suppose it makes it a bit more realistic. Newcastle caught me by surprise, but theyve made some decent signings this summer and seem to be a genuine challenger for European places this season.

View attachment 307529

Mega happy to be sitting 4th right now. I need to win my next 5 games though before i go into that mad mad run of fixtures! Really surprised to see Arsenal sitting in 13th! Shocking. Man City are back on it this year after slacking majorly last season. When i come out of my crazy run of fixtures against all the top teams that will leave me on 25 games. Leaving me with 13 games remaining against sides i should be beating. So if i can stay in the top half and no more than 5 points adrift from the Champions League places. Id really fancy my chances of making that top 4. Especially if i can nick a few wins off the big teams again!

This happened in November!
McGoldrick and Murphy are becoming increasingly frustrating. They are so inconsistent. Theyve both still scored about 10 goals between them. But i need consistency if im to make it into Europe!
Ive obviously promised Bonazzoli that ill be strengthening the team in January so i hope to god hes a Woodrow fan! I seriously looked at breaking the bank for Zivcovic, but after scouting him for a month i decided to go with Cauley Woodrow after taking on board my scouts advice in the reports. Woodrow has decent stats for a False nine role. Hes still young. But what i really needed was a right footed striker. With Bonazzoli & Dybala left footers. I need a bit more balance in attack. As i messed up the Henriquez signing i have actually been short 1 striker of what i would have liked for this season. So im hoping when Woodrow signs in January he really hits the ground running. Hes had two impressive season with Fulham scoring a hat full of goals. Hughes has just returned from injury so hopefully he can stay injury free for the rest of the season.

Pretty happy that most of team are still British! But im sure as i get progress further and further that will start changing. Not unless i all of sudden gain a whole load of 4 star regens!

I decided to join October and November together as i only had 8 games. I dont want to keep making too many little posts. I also dont want to keep rabbitting on too much hahaha. "a little less conversation, a little more action" eh lol.

Anyway, ive got 7 games in December. So my next post will be solely on that.

Thanks Tracz!! Haha, are you a money addict? :-P You always ask about my money. You know its rude to ask another person how much money they have lol :-)

Ive just changed my expectations to Europa league qual, so i have £9m budget now. I dont think my actual balance will be increasing for a few seasons though. I have a couple of instalments to pay off on transfers over the next few years. Plus repaying the loan for the stadium. I reckon it will 2 or 3 seasons before i can start to see my finances hit over the £100m mark! Which for me is safe and solid.

Now about to update January :-)

My players are really starting to get cold feet now. Im not too excited about this. All i can do is try talk it up a little bit and keep them aslong as i can. Once i get Europe, if they still want to go, then aslong as i make a decent profit out of them. Fair enough. IL REPLACE YA! Then you can rot on some big teams bench you greedy little gits haha.

Following the chat with Will Hughes, this popped up on my inbox! Definitely a sign from the big man! Im going to get on this and try sign him until the end of the season. Perhaps with Tielemans & Woodrow on board i can show Hughes & Bonazzoli that i am ambitious and do want to keep progressing.

One of the biggest mysteries on the game for me. Looks at his stats. He couldnt get much worse than that. Hes also 5'1 ..... How can someone that poor play so well at such a high level?!?! Baffles me, really does. I remember he played a couple of good games in pre season so thought id give him a shot. He done amazing, but looking at his attributes and his scout report. Can he grow into a player better then Championship potential?! I so often just let go of youngsters who are less than 3 stars potential!

New league expectations following are decent position at the moment. I feel confident we can make the top 6 and qualify for Europe, so far nearly £2m extra and £54k extra on wages, i decided it to be a decent move. The next step to Champions league qualification is realistic, but considering the small difference in wage budget...Im happy to just go one step at a time.

If you havnt got bored of me going onnnnnnn and onnnnnn and onnnnnnn about this "crazy run of fixtures coming up". Its got a whole lot worse with the cup competitions thrown in aswell!

In the space of a month i will play Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool twice, Everton, Tottenham 3 times!!! and Chelsea. Originally i had Arsenal in there too. But i think because of the Capital One Cup that fixture got moved back. I have QPR after this and then Arsenal.

Not even going to lie, i feel so confident that this is THE HARDEST RUN OF FIXTURES I HAVE EVER SEEN ON ANY FOOTBALL MANAGER GAME. To play all of those world class teams one after the other is just ridiculous. Its going to take a monumental effort to stay in the top 6 and progress in both cups.

If i come through it, well.....crazzzyyyyyy.

Il be back with the next monthly update for January as its a big one.

Might have the odd post here and there beforehand for any transfers in/out.

Thanks for reading guys. Please keep liking and commenting, its nice to know people are interested :-)
