Mata was on fine form today whilst Valencia grabbed a brace in an impressive display against Tottenham who came second in the league last season.

So we get drawn in a group with Lyon and Inter who we beat in the knockout stages last season along with whipping boy team Legia.

Well that was weird start to the season as we struggle to draw against lowly Nottm Forest before back to back thrashings of Tottenham and Chelsea who both made the top 4 last year in the league with Fabregas grabbing a brace in the Tottenham game to get his first goals for the club.

4 wins from 6 as we continue our unbeaten start to the season as we start the month with wins over Aston Villa and Legia before dropping points against Sunderland as we took an early lead against them before they turned the game on its head and we had sub Januzaj to thank for a late equalizer.
We then beat Blackburn in the Capital One Cup in a back and forth match and then went on to thrash big recent title rivals Everton 4-0 at a canter.
We ended the month with a poor draw against Lyon with the same sort of set up as the Sunderland game after an early goal and they turned it around.

Surprise that Valencia is our top league goalscorer whilst we have the 3 top assist makers in the league so far.

This is probably my best eleven bar Moreno being in left back and Balanta moving into the centre back role ahead of Phil Jones.
Valencia is the only player getting old in the starting 11 but he can be replaced by Januzaj, Gauld, Zaha or Firmino but the rest of the side probably has 5 or 6 years together especially the back 5.

Fabregas has been in awesome form this month as we win 5 matches in a row including knocking his former club Arsenal out of the Capita One Cup and beating Italian Giants Inter Milan.
We ended the month in a shocker of a result against Crystal Palace who did exactly what they did to Liverpool last night to us as they scored 3 late goals after we went 3-0 up with not long to go.

Unbeaten after 10 games and a decent 4 points clear of second place Everton already but if Liverpool win their game in hand they will only be 2 points behind us.

28 shot, 60% possesion and i thought this just wasnt our day as we let lots of chances go begging but Henriquez managed to grab a very late winner.

A terrible month as we only win 2 out of 5 matches but we are still undefeated, I know we faced some of the big teams this month with Liverpool, Arsenal, Inter and Man City but the goals really dried up for the Spanish trio Mata, Fabregas and Diego Costa and it was backup striker Henriquez who kept us going with some important goals in the wins at Legia, Man City and to grab a draw with Liverpool.

Im following and commenting mate when I can get on! Sometimes it may need a fresh new unusual story to get more comments, though I've found lately there are much more silent followers!

Thanks guys was in a grumpy mood yesterday after work with a sore throat and didnt feel like updating the save! Back on it today and hopefully post a couple of updates this morning.

Well it looked like it was going to be a long month as we won,lost and drew our first 3 games of the month but then our Champions quality shone through as we won 6 games on the bounce with Diego Costa finally back in some decent form whilst we also beat Cardiff in the Capital One Cup Quarter Final to set up the Semi Finals against Tottenham.

So at the turn of the year were a massive 8 points clear at the top but we have some big games next month against the likes of Chelsea and the other teams around us have games in hand which could close the gap quite a bit.

Winter Transfer Window

Well i didnt do any business, I looked to sell Tom Cleverly but that was really at his own request so i wasnt looking to sell him on the cheap and when no one wanted him even though i offered him out at ?5Million i decided my transfer window was over as i didnt need to bring anyone else in.
On a side note Jonny Evans has refused a new contract and nobody in the past 2 windows has wanted to buy him for his asking price of ?3Million so he will leave at the end of the season.

Capital One Cup

So we managed to beat Tottenham at home and then scrape a draw at White Hart Lane to secure a big final against Team of the Moment Southampton to be played on the last day of February.

So we carried on well with our progression in the Cup competitions making the FA Cup 5th rnd and the Capital One Cup Final but the league race got blown wide open with devastating double loss to Chelsea and Tottenham shaving hard earned points off our lead in a matter of days.
At least we managed to end the month on a high with an important win over another of our title rivals in Everton, Henriquez didnt score at all this month whilst Diego Costa's only goal this month came against Leyton Orient as we lose our goalscoring edge.

The Golden Boot is definity out of our reach this season with Henriquez dropping down to 5th in the charts whilst Diego Costa is not even in sight. Mata and Kagawa are not far off the top for the most assists though.


Right off to work now, up next is a big month in the Champions League and a chance to add some more silverware to our collection with the Capital One Cup Final.​

So we had a lot more chances than Southampton but it took until close to the hour mark before Henriquez scored the only goal of the Final.
It was nice to win this trophy again after West Brom picked it up last year, one of my aims is to be the all time record holders for each competition and this win brings us to 5 League Cups with Liverpool holding the current record with 8.

So we started the month with a shock draw with Leicester before a couple of good wins in the cup and league and then the big loss in the Ukraine.
I gave a lot of our youth players a chance in the two league games between the Champions League and Capital One Cup Final and they didnt disappoint with some impressive performances and a couple of players getting their first goals for the club.

6 points clear at the top but Southampton do have a game in hand on us and have been in good form before their Final loss to us, Man City are still struggling in mid table obscurity at the moment down in 10th.

An all English tie as we get Tottenham in the Quarter Finals as the other 3 big teams remaining get relatively easy draws with surely the likes of Chelsea, Juventus and Barcelona to go through with ease.

Another 4-0 dominant win at home to put us in a very strong position for the second leg at White Hart Lane with Fabregas and Januzaj in awesome form at the moment.

The perfect month as we win 6 games in a row across 3 different competitions, along with the already mentioned Champions League wins we had 3 important league wins on the bounce with important victories over Arsenal and Man City whilst we beat Middlesbrough in the FA Cup Quarter Final.

Well the other sides really struggled this month and we took control of the league now 12 points clear with 3rd place Liverpool having a game in hand but even if they win that 9 points clear with only 6 games to go and surely the league is all but sown up for another year as i will start to rest the first team for the cup games.

Fabregas got a goal less than a minute in before Tottenham smashed in 3 goals including former player Hernandez getting a goal but it wasnt enough for Spurs as we go through 5-3 on aggregate.

So surprise package Schalke beat Juventus to make the Semi Finals and im very glad i got drawn against them compared to the other teams left in the Competition.
