Well the day has come, 28.02.2010 where Spurs and Villa fans will be hoping to walk away with the first piece of silverware this year. With Spurs being touted as clear favourites it seemed that the all British/Irish Villa squad had it all to, especially as they were without top scorer Gabby Agbonlahor and Vice Captain Scott Parker. With a sell out of over 90,000 fans a great day was on the cards with both sets of fans were jovial mood. But which side will go home with smiles on their faces, only one team can win!

Build up to Carling Cup Final

What a day for the clubs and the fans, with expectation on both teams it was going to be a tough one to call. Most pundits were expecting a close game but at the same time still expecting Harry Redknapp's team to come out on top. The game kicked off and for the first 10 minutes both teams sat tight as you could see no one wanted to put a foot wrong in such a big game, but after 21 minutes the first real chance of the game came and with an open net to shoot at the England Under 21 striker Nathan Delfouneso made it 1-0 to Aston Villa.

View attachment 92353

Tottenham looked to respond quickly with a long range shot from Defoe that just whistled past Joe Hart's post, the first half was drawing to an end an Harry looked like he was ready to blow after seeing his players pefrom below par in this first half. But before he could let rip his team had a corner to defend, Downing looked to swing one into the far post it cleared the first defender Woodgate and there it was Villa captain Richard Dunne rose above Ledley King as he put a bullet of a header past Gomes the Spurs keeper 2-0! Villa fans were celebrating like mad, but was this a bit too premature. Villa boss David Beckham certainly looked delighted with how his teams first half performance had went.

View attachment 92357View attachment 92358

The second half gets underway and we can see a slight change in attitude to the way Spurs are playing there game, attack attack attack! As time goes on Spurs look like they are getting more frustrated with numerous attempts on goal from outside the box, whilst Beckham's men look like they are taking a stroll in the park. Just past the hour mark and influencal Tottenham captain goes down injured, you guessed it he is taken off and goes straight down the tunnel.

View attachment 92362

With only 10 minutes to go Spurs throw caution to the wind and throw everyone up front whilst Beckham sets out his stall to defend and keep hold of this 2-0 lead.

View attachment 92367View attachment 92368

Aston Villa have been pinned back in their own half for the last 10 minutes, but can they.............thats it its over Aston Villa have done it Villa boss Beckham runs onto the pitch to congratulate his player, they looked suprised themselves that they have done it what a great day for the club, fans and of course David Beckham picking up his first piece of silverware as a manager. With this victory Aston Villa have now also secured their space in next year's Europa League competition, this will be great news for Beckham as the players will be able to simply concentrate on their football without any added pressure. Lets just enjoy this moment!

Tottenham hit hard by lowly defeat

February 2010 review!

View attachment 92430View attachment 92432View attachment 92431

This month was set to shape the rest of Aston Villa's season, with vital games in the league against the likes of Man United and Chelsea an FA CUp 5th round game against bitter rivals Birmingham City and the finally a match that could go down in the history books for Aston Villa, a Carling Cup Final game against Spurs.

View attachment 92433View attachment 92434View attachment 92436View attachment 92437View attachment 92438View attachment 92439View attachment 92441View attachment 92440

Aston Villa 3-0 Man United. GOALS - Gabby Agbonlahor, Stewart Downing, Nathan Delfouneso.

Chelsea 2-2 Aston Villa. GOALS - Landon Donovan, Nicolas Anelka, Carlton Cole, Richard Dunne.

Aston Villa 2-2 Blackburn Rovers. GOALS - Gabby Agbonlahor(2), Nikola Kalinic, Kevin Phillips.

Birmingham City 1-3 Aston Villa. GOALS - Nikola Zigic, Emile Heskey, Nathan Delfouneso, Ashley Young, Stewart Downing missed penalty(69).

Fulham 1-4 Aston Villa. GOALS - Bobby Zamora, Ashley Young, Emile Heskey, Richard Dunne(2).

Sunderland 1-1 Aston Villa. GOALS - Kenwyne Jones, Ashley Young.

West Brom 1-2 Aston Villa. GOALS - Steven Reid, Ashley Young, Fabian Delph.

Tottenham 0-2 Aston Villa. GOALS - Nathan Delfouneso, Richard Dunne.

Well where do you start, what a fantastic month for David Beckham and his players, starting the month off with a fantastic 3-0 victory over Man United what more could they of asked for. There will be some slight dissapointment with the matches against Chelsea and Blackburn as on both occasions Villa were leading 2-0 but some how managed to let the 3 points slip away. Mid way through this month we saw 4 key injuries hit the club and more importantly key strikers Cole who game back to action late this month and Agbonlahor who still has another 6 weeks on the sideline. However Villa stayed strong and saw Emile Heskey and Nathan Delfouneso step up to the make by scoring some vital goals in their absence. Villa also managed to overcome rivals Birmingham City at St. Andrews to take them through to the quarter finals of the FA Cup. Last but not least we saw Villa famously beat Spurs in the Carling Cup Final at Wembley, what a day what a victory. This also means that Aston Villa are currently on a 12 match unbeaten run in all competitions, which streches back to mid January. Lets hope theres more to come from this very impressive Villa side.

March 2010 review!

View attachment 92698View attachment 92699

After such an impressive February there was a lot to live upto this month, could Beckham's you British/Irish squad carry on this form into March. With two tough games against table topping Arsenal both away from home, one game in the FA Cup quarter final and the other in the league along with another local derby game against Birmingham City. A fairy quiet month in comparison with only 4 games to play, but with tierd legs and some early celebrations with that Carling Cup win what do the next couple of months hold for Villa.

View attachment 92700View attachment 92701View attachment 92700View attachment 92702

Arsenal 2-1 Aston Villa. GOALS - Andrey Arshavin, Nicklas Bendtner, Ashley Young.

West Ham 0-2 Aston Villa. GOALS - Ashley Young(2).

Arsenal 2-0 Aston Villa. GOLAS - Marouane Chamakh, Andrey Arshavin, Cesc Fabregas sent off(53).

Aston Villa 0-1 Birmingham City. GOALS - Cameron Jerome, Richard Dunne sent off(38).

Well what a dissapointing month for the club and the fans alike, noone expected them to beat Arsenal away from home and to be fair we saw so decent attacking football from both sides it was simply the finishing that let Villa down. A good solid win away to West Ham where Ashley Young took all the praise in a fine performance. Then what all Villa fans didnt want to see, home defeat to bitter rivals Birmingham City along with club captain Richard Dunne beeing sent off just before half time. With Villa still lingering just above the half way position n the leage and things being so tight between the top 9 teams in the leage there is still a lot to play for, Villa fans are no crying for Gabby Agbonlahor to come back from injury.

Well we have reached the semi final stage of the most wanted trophy in European football, and we have been left with 4 of the heavy weights. And two of Englands best, Chelsea, Arsenal, AC Milan and Barcelona. But who will go all the way and lift the trophy, both Arsenal and Chelsea having never lifted the trophy and a desperate to lift it in Madrid this year.

Who to watch out for

April 2010 review!

View attachment 93071

With a very dissapointing March Beckham has told his squad to start performing as he doesnt want to see then slip down the table. With some hard fixtures in store for April with games against Liverpool and Man City, what will this month hold of Aston Villa.

View attachment 93072View attachment 93073View attachment 93074View attachment 93075View attachment 93079

Aston Villa 2-0 Liverpool. GOALS - Carlton Cole(2).

Wolves 1-0 Aston Villa. GOALS - Michael Kightly.

Aston Villa 2-1 Man City. GOALS - Ashley Young, Carlton Cole, Emmanuel Adebayor.

Aston Villa 1-0 Fulham. GOALS - Nathan Delfouneso.

Bolton 2-2 Aston Villa. GOALS - Sam Ricketts, Martin Petrov, Jack Wilshire, Ashley Young.

Well what a mixed month for the club with 2 great victories against Liverpool and Man City who are both fighting for the league, and a solid victory against Fulham. Then more dissapointingly a 2-2 draw against Bolton which some would say was ok but the fact Villa were up 2-0 and to walk away with just a point was very dissapointing. Finally Villa fans will be hanging their heads in shame with a 1-0 loss against Wolves, with this set of results it sees Villa match thier club Premier League total of point reaching 63, and with 2 games left they can smash this record. See full report below!

Well we have come to the final day of the season, and there is still a lot to play for. Villa fans will be fairly pleased with how things have gone with winning the Craling Cup and achieving their biggest ever point total in the League. But we still dont have a Champion, or know all the teams who will be playing in Europe's top club competition. With Chelsea langushing in 8th position, there was time for change at the top and it comes down to Tottenham and Man Utd. Then Liverpool and Man City fight ot out for that all important 4th spot, it all comes down to 90 minutes. Beckham even no having to dealings with Man Utd anymore still has a big part to play in their leage hopes, as his Villa saide play at Old Trafford in the last game of the season. Will he be doing them any favours, we think not! Stay tuned for full report.

What a day for the Tottenham Hotspur fans as they thrased an already relagated Blackpool side 3-0 to pick up the English Premier League Title. Tottenham were never in the running for this title acording to the bookies, and after their poor performance in the Carling Cup final in which they lost to Aston Vill they were expected to go furthur down the table. But this seemed to of spured them on, as they pipped Man Utd to the title on the last day. Harrys men will be savoring this moment for a very along with their fans.

Aston Villa were looking to end the season on a strong note and with only 2 games to play this month, there was alot of time on the training ground with boss David Beckham. With a home game against Newcastle, Villa would want their last home game to be a good one for the fans. Villa boss David Beckham will end his season at Old Trafford, no strange place for him and he would be hoping to put a dent in their title bid and we all know what happened there!

View attachment 93292View attachment 93293

Aston Villa 4-1 Newcastle. GOALS - Ashley Young, Gabby Agbonlahor(3), Jonas.

Man United 2-2 Aston Villa. GOALS - Wayne Rooney(2), Ashley Young(2).

And its all over for Davd Beckham and his all British/Irish squad for this year, with two very impressive performances in May which saw them thrash Newcastle 4-1 and hold Man United at Old Trafford. Beckham couldnt of wished for a better way to end the season, even though they finished 8th in the table they still managed to reach a record total of club points, and for a new regime at Villa I think the Villa board and Beckham alike will be looking at a very bright future.

Well there it is, the Premier League season is over for another year and what a year to remember for Tottenham Hotspur after picking up their first ever Premier League title and a year not to remember for Sunderland, Birmingham City and Blackpool after being relegated to the Championship. With this Man United, Man City and Arsenal along with Champions Tottenham have qualified for the UEFA Champions League and Liverpool, Everton, Chelsea and Aston Villa(through League Cup) have qualified for the UEFA Europa League.
