How do you play the game, Clarkaldo? Do you play in Classic Mode or with the full 3D visuals? And do you watch the matches on brief highlights or with the Comprehensive view?
I'm a seasoned veteran of all kinds of footie sim games, including ChampMan and many-FMs-of-years-passed. I was frustrated with FM14 to begin with, primarily because none of my tactical changes seemed to have any kind of discernible effect on the matches I was watching. But being a naturally calm, dogged type of person, I stuck with it, read the forums and listened to some advice in an FM-related podcast and finally got to grips with it.
I've been trying to help those struggling with FM14, partly as a writing exercise in itself (in keeping with my professional ambitions) and partly because I know that 29 or 35 quid is a lot of money for a game you can't play! So I have created the three threads linked below... and there are plenty of other threads in the same sections of the forum from likeminded FMers, who are getting on better with this game, too. Each has generated some useful feedback from other users, so I invite you to take a look and, even if you don't adopt my tactics verbatim, at least incorporate some of the ideas into your thinking:

I play on the Comprehensive view with the full 3D graphics. And I think I have detected a trend on this forum that those who play the briefer form of the game are struggling much more, because they can't genuinely see how their instructions - and how their altered tactics - are playing out in the matches themselves. In the third of those links, I mentioned that I based all three tactics on the same defensive unit, and that helped me to see how my decisions affected the outcome.
