Raul takes charge of the Holland national team, he will still remain in charge of West Brom. He thinks the prospect of international management is a once in a lifetime challenge and hopes to restore Holland to a top team as they have been disappointing recently.

UEFA Champions League Group Stage
Wednesday 4th October 2017

The Hawthorns

West Brom 3 - 1 Young Boys
Douglas Costa (17'), Salah (58'), Benzia (90+1')

MOTM: Mohamed Salah

Another win in the group stages which makes it two out of two. I, however am very disappointed at the goal Young Boys scored as it was a complete free gift and makes us look sloppy.

Barclays Premier League
Saturday 7th October 2017

The Hawthorns

West Brom 3 - 1 Reading
Mkhitaryan (3'), Benzia (7', 47')

MOTM:
Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Henrikh's first goal in the league was taken spectacularly and will be up there for one of the goal of the season contenders, he jinked past two players before chipping the keeper from 25 yards out and the keeper was barely off his line, you cannot teach skill like that to a player.

Barclays Premier League
Saturday 21st October 2017

The Hawthorns

West Brom 2 - 0 Norwich
Doria (63'), Salah (87')

MOTM: Doria

It took us until just past the hour mark to slot one away against Norwich as the game was pretty even but after conceding, they fell to bits and we could of gotten more had we been more clinical.

UEFA Champions League Group Stage
Wednesday 25th October 2017

The Hawthorns

West Brom 3 - 2 Genk
Ljajic (29', 79'), Mkhitaryan (60')

MOTM: Adem Ljajic

We have got to finish games better. We nearly lost all three points today due to conceding two goals in injury time and made the game closer than it should have been, if we keep riding our luck it will come back and haunt us so I want to cut out bad habits early.

Barclays Premier League
Saturday 28th October 2017

DW Stadium

Wigan 0 - 0 West Brom

MOTM: Doria

We was expected to win this game, but you cannot win every single game in the Premier League and there are a few shock results, this was one of them and I have to drag the positives out of the game which was we kept a clean sheet and are still undefeated in the league.

Capital One Cup Fourth Round
Tuesday 31st October 2017

The Hawthorns

West Brom 4 - 1 Reading
Salah (6', 90+5'), Alexandre Pato (20'), O.G (37')

MOTM:Mohamed Salah

After beating them twice this month, I think Reading will be fond to see the back off us and we carry on our excellent form in the domestic cups with yet another battering. Alexandre Pato is slowly getting back on form and getting more gametime for us.

We was close to signing Salah from Basel in 2014 but Real Madrid pipped us to his signature but he has shown some excellent form since joining and 3 goals and 4 assists this month.

A month of heroes, hopefully we could be heroes for our fans.

Barclays Premier League
Saturday 4th November 2017

Molineux

Wolves 0 - 1 West Brom
Salah (35')

MOTM: Carl Jenkinson

After Wolves have rebuilt themselves from suffering relegation to the Sky Bet League One they are back where they belong. We couldn't break them down as a well organised Kenny Jackett team only lost to a individual goal by Mohamed Salah.

UEFA Champions League Group Stage
Tuesday 7th November 2017

Cristal Arena

Genk 0 - 4 West Brom
Salah (26'), Douglas Costa (37', 57'), Benzia (48')

MOTM: Douglas Costa

We didn't make the same mistake as last time by letting Genk score two late goals this game, instead we carried on our 100% win percentage in our group stages. Two magnificent freekicks from Douglas Costa was the highlight of todays match and saw him pick up the Man Of The Match award.

Barclays Premier League
Monday 13th November 2017

The Hawthorns

West Brom 1 - 0 Chelsea
Benzia (39')

MOTM: John Stones

A solid win against Mourinho's Chelsea who have been excellent this season and also making them victim to their first defeat of the season. A brilliant assist by Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Yassine Benzia was enough for the Frenchman to finish with his expertees. A clean sheet against this Chelsea team filled everyone with confidence.

Barclays Premier League
Saturday 25th November 2017

The Hawthorns

West Brom 1 - 1 Arsenal
Doria (82')

MOTM: Doria

A late thumping header from captain fantastic Doria himself. He leads the team every game and despite being only 23 he is one of the maturest, professional players I have come across. When he moved from Benfica 4 years ago alot of people doubted he would succeed in the Premiership but he has become one of the most sought after players.

UEFA Champions League Group Stage
Wednesday 29th November 2017

The Hawthorns

West Brom 3 - 0 Porto
Doria (13'), Benzia (24', 53')

MOTM: Yassine Benzia

A double over Porto this year is a good satisfaction and in doing so we have qualified with a game to go at the top of the group. Benzia was on form again with another duo of goals and captain fantastic scored his second in two games.

The frost is back but would the weather effect us in December?

Barclays Premier League
Saturday 2nd December 2017

Old Trafford

Man Utd 3 - 1 West Brom
Salah (85')

MOTM: Robert Lewandowski

Well our 20 game unbeaten run comes to an end at the mighty Old Trafford and Man Utd was a gulf of class above us, I cannot complain as the effort was there today and we played our part but Man Utd was a masterclass today and deserved the points. We start again next game.

Barclays Premier League
Tuesday 5th December 2017

Liberty Stadium

Swansea 1 - 2 West Brom
Doria (49), Benzia (53')

MOTM: Doria

Two quickfire goals in four minutes was enough for the win in Wales. We should have had more but we take away the win and come straight back from the United match. We didn't have a hangover and we want to put another run together.

Barclays Premier League
Saturday 9th December 2017

The Hawthorns

West Brom 5 - 0 Notts Forest
Douglas Costa (14'), Doria (31'), Salah (53', 75'), Benzia (66')

MOTM: Mohamed Salah

That's what I call a performance!!! We performed like champions today and we are fighting for the league this year, we don't want to finish second fiddle. We bullied Notts Forest today and showed them what the brutality of the Premiership can be like.

UEFA Champions League Group Stage
Tuesday 12th December 2017

Stade de Suisse Wankdorf

Young Boys 0 - 0 West Brom

MOTM: John Stones

I'm delighted with the result and some people must think I'm nuts. The reason being is that 5 of the 11 today made their debuts for West Brom and we managed to draw and keep a clean sheet in the Champions League which I am delighted with and the youth looks good for the future.

Barclays Premier League
Saturday 16th December 2017

KC Stadium

Hull 0 - 0 West Brom

MOTM: Jonathan Hogg

There's no excuses for this one, all players had a rest in the week and we should be beating teams like Hull if we are serious about winning the league. We must tuck away chances and be more clinical at times.

Capital One Cup Quarter Final
Wednesday 20th December 2017

Carrow Road

Norwich 1 - 2 West Brom
Ruiz Diaz (35'), Pedro Obiang (38')

MOTM: Neil Taylor

In the Semi-Final of this cup with another great chance of winning it for the treble times of retaining it, something never done. We wasn't at our best but we got through which is the sign of a good team and first goals for both the midfielders at the club.

Capital One Cup Semi Final draw:
Man Utd v West Brom

Barclays Premier League
Saturday 23rd December 2017

The Hawthorns

West Brom 3 - 3 Liverpool
Pedro Obiang (8'), Ruiz Diaz (59'), Benzia (61')

MOTM: Emmanuel Ruiz Diaz

What a fantastic game and it always seems to be against Liverpool we have the comebacks. We was 3-1 down at half-time and getting destroyed before I motivated the team and we came out the second half with all cylinders firing and should have ended up winning the game but a draw was a fair result.

Barclays Premier League
Tuesday 26th December 2017

Olympic Stadium

West Ham 1 - 7 West Brom
Benzia (4', 51', 77'), Zouma (7'), Doria (23'), Salah (49'), Ljajic (68')

MOTM: Yassine Benzia

The best performance I have seen of this club to date. We was strong, clinical, powerful, hungry.. Everything you could ask for a perfect performance except a clean sheet. Benzia showed yet again why he is one of the best young strikers in the world.

Barclays Premier League
Saturday 30th December 2017

The Hawthorns

West Brom 2 - 0 Stoke
Benzia (45'), Mkhitaryan (89')

MOTM: Henrikh Mkhitaryan

A solid win to back up our excellent performance in the week against West Ham. Benzia is in hot form and our defenders are keeping the goals out we will go into the New Year full of positivity.

Exclusive interview with Raul on the finances of football.

Raul sits here today, as a experienced player and now a manager with vast experience under his belt and has some things to say about the financial side of the game and the way it has changed football.

Raul boasts a record of being one of the most shrewdest spenders at a top team, one of the managers who has a real eye for a bargain in the market and in developing players to the next level. Here is a little piece that Raul had to say about financial issues in football:

Raul: To be a good manager, you are based on success. To be the best in the world you are based on everything, to me I get more satisfaction of buying a player nobody has heard of before and expecting the whole league and nation when he comes and turns into the leagues surprise package. It is all well spending 40 and 50 million on a player and hoping for success but with a price-tag comes alot of pressure and putting your team under pressure is the first place where many go wrong. I would rather invest heavily in youth products and facilities as you can mould them from a young age into the players you want instead of purchasing a player for a ridiculous amount and demanding success from them instantly. Jurgen Klopp at Dortmund is a fantastic example of a manager doing the world of good for youth products.

Below are some of the fantastic dealings Raul has done since he joined West Brom as a manager.

Total Profit: 127.8m

That is the total profit on just 8 players, there are many more and Raul's financial control of the club has been excellent as he has reinvested it in other areas such as improving the facilities and coaches around the club, ultimately turning the club from a average mid-table team to a Champions League and title contenders. He has another big project which will take a few years to complete but be reassured it will be a big, big surprise.

Ins:

View attachment 458451View attachment 458450

Miguel Angel:
Signed by the Director of Football for 3.9m as a star of the future, coming from Sevilla.

Orhan Demirer: The Turkish keeper was pushing for the #1 spot at Barcelona but wanted to be out of Spain so I bought him for 5.5m for a long-term replacement for Rene Adler.

Outs:

Alexandre Pato: Sold to Turkish giants Galatasary, since his injury before joining us he was never the same player I saw. He was also a high earner on the wage bill but we have made a profit on him.

Abdel Barrada: Same as Pato, couldn't get a look-in. The midfield has been excellent and Abdel wanted regular football so he was flogged onto Sporting Lisbon for 3.1m.

Loans: Johnny Madsen (Frankfurt), Slavko Smolnikar (Tranmere), Miguel Angel (Oldham)

Two very good players signed on Pre-Contract agreements.

UEFA Champions League First Knockout Round draw:
CSKA Moscow v West Brom

Barclays Premier League
Monday 1st January 2018

St. Mary's Stadium

Southampton 0 - 1 West Brom
Ljajic (8')

MOTM: Jack Hunt

A single goal to restart the turn of the calendar year with a victory for us, Southampton looked very, very strong and I expect them to finish well this year.

FA Cup Third Round
Saturday 6th January 2018

Spotland

Rochdale 0 - 2 West Brom
Douglas Costa (16'), Stones (45+3')

MOTM: Douglas Costa

Low league Rochdale was hoping for a giant killing day but it wasn't to be as we put them to bed with a reserve squad out and it gave me a chance to look at players in and around the first team.

Capital One Cup Semi Final First Leg
Wednesday 10th January 2018

The Hawthorns

West Brom 1 - 0 Man Utd
Benzia (76')

MOTM: Elias Bolivar

We take a lead into the second leg after a good solid win against a good 3-5-2 United side.

Barclays Premier League
Saturday 13th January 2018

Etihad Stadium

Man City 2 - 0 West Brom
Taylor sent off

MOTM: Lucas Leiva

After Taylors sending off in the 5th minute it put us on the ropes and we suffered waves of attacks from Man City until they broke us, Neil cost us this game and I let him know having a private word with him after the match.

Barclays Premier League
Tuesday 16th January 2018

The Hawthorns

West Brom 3 - 1 Fulham
Benzia (21'), Doria (35'), O.G (38')

MOTM: Doria

Better performance on the back of the last result, the lads picked themselves up and didn't sulk. One player stood out in general and it was captain Doria who was a real vocal point today and lead the team to victory.

Barclays Premier League
Sunday 21st January 2018

The Hawthorns

West Brom 2 - 1 Tottenham
Zouma (50'), Douglas Costa (59')

MOTM: Kurt Zouma

Another game where a defender was on the scoresheet, they are doing better than our strikers. We bombarded Tottenhams goal with shots but we could only score two, but it was enough.

Capital One Cup Semi Final Second Leg
Wednesday 24th January 2018

Old Trafford

Man Utd 4 - 1 West Brom (4-2 agg)
Benzia (55')

MOTM: Tom Cleverley

We was horrific, worst I've seen this team play as long as I've been in charge. We will not be making the final this year and we didn't even deserve to lace the boots of the United places after this performance. We will need to step it up against Arsenal to save further embarrassment.

FA Cup Fourth Round
Saturday 27th January 2018

The Hawthorns

West Brom 1 - 1 Arsenal
Pedro Obiang (68')

MOTM: Fernando Llorente

We did well for the draw. We earned a replay at the Emirates which is no shame and hopefully we can get through to the next round in London.

Barclays Premier League
Tuesday 30th January 2018

St. James Park

Newcastle 2 - 2 West Brom
Benzia (26', 90+3')

MOTM: Yassine Benzia

Individual brilliance from Yassine today to rescue a point from Newcastle. A point at St. James is an excellent result for any team as they have 60,000 strong Geordies behind them.

Barclays Premier League
Saturday 3rd February 2018

The Madejski Stadium

Reading 1 - 2 West Brom
Benzia (11'), Pedro Obiang (14'), Pedro Obiang sent off

MOTM: Tom Rowe

Much closer than it should of been, Pedro Obiang didn't make things better by getting sent off late on. Our downfall is conceding late goals.

FA Cup Fourth Round Replay
Wednesday 7th February 2018

Emirates Stadium

Arsenal 2 - 0 West Brom

MOTM: Jack Wilshere

We are out of both domestic cups which we can no longer defend, I am disappointed but I would like to focus on the two big ones, the Champions League and the Premier League but today we wasn't the best.

Barclays Premier League
Saturday 10th February 2018

The Hawthorns

West Brom 2 - 1 Cardiff
Salah (23'), Doria (32')

MOTM: Mohamed Salah

The downfall to our season so far is letting lower teams back into games by conceding a late goal to give them a glimmer of hope, we must cut this out of our game.

Barclays Premier League
Tuesday 13th February 2018

The Hawthorns

West Brom 5 - 2 Wigan
Salah (12', 52'), Mkhitaryan (18'), Ljajic (30'), Benzia (90+1')

MOTM: Mohamed Salah

We brought our A-game today and was in a scoring frenzy. Four goals coming from the midfield showing we have goals all over the pitch and another Man Of The Match performance from Mohamed Salah.

Barclays Premier League
Saturday 24th February 2018

The Hawthorns

West Brom 4 - 0 Wolves
Benzia (3'), Ljajic (32'), Salah (44'), Mkhitaryan (49')

MOTM: Will Hughes

Another excellent win in the Premier League, this time keeping a clean sheet and annihilating and embarrassing Wolves in the process, four assists from the young Will Hughes saw him claim the Man Of The Match award.

UEFA Champions League First Knockout Round First Leg
Tuesday 27th February 2018

CSKA-Peschanoye

CSKA Moscow 2 - 1 West Brom
Pedro Obiang (8')

MOTM: Pontus Wernbloom

Not a disastrous result as we managed to get an away goal in minus freezing conditions in Russia and CSKA will have to come to us, if they sit back they will give us the initiative to bombard them with shots and we will only need 1 goal to qualify.

A very big month for us as we play CSKA Moscow and have very tough games against Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea in the league.

Barclays Premier League
Saturday 3rd March 2018

Carrow Road

Norwich 1 - 4 West Brom
Benzia (22', 75'), Ljajic (41'), Zouma (61')

MOTM: Douglas Costa

A good start to the month and a very convincing win against Norwich who have invested heavily recently. Still they couldn't get past us and it was a comfortable performance.

Barclays Premier League
Saturday 10th March 2018

Stamford Bridge

Chelsea 0 - 2 West Brom
Doria (19'), Douglas Costa (60')

MOTM: Douglas Costa

A big result in this 6 pointer!!! An away at Stamford Bridge puts Chelsea three points behind us and a massive three points in this title race. Douglas Costa took the plaudits again with a excellent Man Of The Match performance following on from his last game.

Barclays Premier League
Saturday 17th March 2018

The Hawthorns

West Brom 2 - 1 Man Utd
Neil Taylor (63'), Douglas Costa (84')

MOTM: Douglas Costa

We did enough to beat United at home today and keep on our assault of the title with another victory against a top team. Yet another outstanding display this month from Douglas Costa.

UEFA Champions League First Knockout Round Second Leg
Wednesday 21st March 2018

The Hawthorns

West Brom 3 - 1 CSKA Moscow (4-3 agg)
Benzia (11', 44'), Salah (27')

MOTM: Yassine Benzia

We performed a great turnaround at home which puts us through to the quarters. A good match was overshadowed by ugly circumstances as Mohamed Salah suffered a horrific injury which was cruciate ligament damage which will put the winger out of action for the best part of a year.

UEFA Champions League Quarter Final draw:
Dortmund v West Brom

Barclays Premier League
Saturday 31st March 2018

Emirates Stadium

Arsenal 2 - 1 West Brom
Benzia (15')

MOTM: Ben Davies

The officials was disgraceful today and ultimately cost us the game, possibly the league. Two disallowed goals and allowed the match to turn into who wanted to break the other players leg even more. I'm disgusted and I hope the FA have seen this incident.
