hi, think i might implement a few ideas after my team stagnated and drew to many games last season, although i often have high pos anyway but playing more traditional English approaches but with my squad at home (wing style attack just was not clicking) although def(top teams) and counter(away) options excelled, i never download tactics but i sometimes read discussions like this as there is always something overlooked e.g. fullbacks to hold up ball. i think control away and big teams attack home weak tams will be my approach but i have already set my pitch to maximum so may struggle a bit at first i play 4-2-3-1 but with 2 DM's anchor/dlp (ideal for Newcastle start) do you reckon this will be 2 deep as i like having that animal tiote mugging players in that area and cabaye is also very effective creator from deep and also would it be worth waiting to next season so far as pitch dimensions are concerned?

that should be fine, if you want to play two Dm's then have Tiote as Dm - defend and Cabaye as Dlp - support with LONG passing and medium to high freedom!
 
Great thread Raikon, has helped me out alot so thank you!! Ive created a possession tactic and have been using it for the 'FM-Base Challenge' Database and have had alot of success. Im now in League 1 and last season lost in the FA Cup final to liverpool (stoppage time winner!!) and now my team is in the Euro Cup group stages. With being an underdog in this I was wondering if you could give any suggestions to be able to control the game but reduce being hit on the break or just simply out played. Maybe drop deeper and hit on the counter when they press?? I use a 4231 and classic mode
 
try dropping deeper (even though its not advised) but dont play on the counter, is counter productive with possession tactics!

try and slow down the game more when in possession!

where are they hitting you on the counter? out wide or through the middle?
 
I already have it on slow (4 to be exact)

Theyre attacking down the sides, I have it set so that my GK plays it out to my LB, fullbacks are set to hold up ball, rfd is sometimes. The majority of opponents assists are from the left. Should I prevent him from holding up the ball?
 
hello raikan.. Good thread.. i had make my own posession tactic base on your Short and Sweet tactic.. Its modern tactic.. I just want to ask you, what should i do to increase CCC? Because during the match, my team taking the game but can't create a CCC... One more thing, how can i with my midfielder to increase the contribution to the game, at the same time increase the passing rating.. Thank you (sorry, bad english)

increase creativivity, free role, moevs into channels

push higher up, play a little quicker, try play attacking instead of control! less time wasting and dont let more than 1 player hold up the ball :)
 
Hi,

Do you think a midfield trio of box to box mids could work? Or would there not be enough creativity there? Also having full backs and defensive wingers moving into channels, would that work?

Hi mates, hi Raikan,
Sorry for being that late with updates, I was quite busy last weeks so no time for FM, especially that nobody can ever play just one or two hours (not me at least)
So here are my findings and highly speculative theories:
- Setting the right width is proving tricky: When I play too wide ( just a few notches up normal), my strikers leave the center of the pitch inoccupied so they have rarely good chances
- The few chances they get, are rarely on target though they aren't that bad (Fierro and two outstanding regens on Gladbach save on 2015 and Lacina Traore, Kevin Doyle, Steven Fletcher on the wolves first season save I'm currently playing) I think this due to a problem with tempo so this one setting is just as tricky as width
- The last but not least problem is although having the two cm's set to thorough balls often, I rarely see a good one towards my strikers while I am expecting this to happen quite often. My AMC (Erick Torres) gets the ball moving backwards or sideways more often than up front due to the strikers not being where they should be :s
- Defensivly everything seems ok, other teams scoring against me is on line with the quality of my back four (johanson berra carruzo and capuano)
- On the possession side, figures were what I'd expect them to be: at least 55% and up to 68%.
After tweaking width (three notches down) and tempo (three notches down), changing one striker to cut inside instead of moving into channels, and having my most creative cm playing more direct passes, switching stategy from control a little bit ambitious for my lads) to balanced I got more chances and goals for my strikers however the possession cost is expensive: around 42% per game!
To summarise, I'm getting more and more frustrated by this game, it seems that the only way top play is having good wingers. After all Barça and Real are playing this way.
Another point is that I think SI corrected the three strikers loophole in the 2k11 ME by forcing strikers into more roaming which results into more difficulties playing right with two strikers.
P.S: sorry, I cannot provide any SS since I'm playing at home with no internet and conecting from the office

you can set their creativity higher than defualt as well! so its up to you!

Wingers yes, fullbacks no, I have tried it before and it did not work that well! it only works if you have at least one DM and two good CB :)

Strikers: Lacina Traoré (Non scoring guy though looking very promising) , Kevin Doyle (scores a brace every four games against weaker sides) and Steven Fletcher
Midefielders: Zakarya Labyad, Nenad Milijas, Jamie O'hara
Defenders: Cristophe Berra, Kevin Foley and George Elokoby

Future signings: Carlos Fierro and Gaston Fernandez, Bernd Leno, Steffan Bell and Rodrick Miranda.

Great post Raikan! Currently trying to emulate in my game. QQ though, when playing a lone striker what is the best role to give him and mentality? Also with everyone on the pitch what should there mentality in PI be like?

thats not really easy to answer mate ;) there are SO MANY things to factor in! regarding the striker! it depends on who it is! For eg: Paloschi or Pato will be poachers and Cavani will be CF and Rooney will be Dlf etc etc..

it depends on the stats of the player (keep in mind the players PPM's as well) for eg:

Cavani has comes deep to get ball! now that fits in perfectly with my Dlf role I use! I wont play him in the Poacher role I have as that role is ALWAYS running from deep :)

i dont understand about free role... Currently i manage Newcastle... How can i make my midfielder become free role?? Sorry newbie question...

no worries mate! you need to go into the player instructions and far left under the attacking and creative freedom sliders (right under swap position you will see free roam from position :) make sure that is yes!

Use it with parcimony nonetheless, otherwise you'll see pretty weired things on the pitch :D
 
Hi all, great topic.

I've always tried to play possession tactics and when I saw this, naturally I tried the challenge of creating my own.

Iv'e topped the 1000+ successful passes in a match. It is with Barca however who have great passers throughout the team so I don't know yet if the tactics migrate well to different teams (I shall try)

1039 completed passes, 1071 attempted . Clear chances was around 8 I think. Needs some more testing against better opposition, there's a bit of a left side bias and I want to try pushing the passing up field a tad. Away from home however I think its a good tactic to start developing from.

I shall test/tweak a bit more and post back.
