Calor Gas League Southern & West Begins

Romsey Town will kick off their campaign against Merthyr Tydfil FC and will be wanting to start their campain with a vital three points. Their Welsh opposition however are not at the standard of football which Romsey have played throughout pre-season and the Welsh club could provide tricky opposition for Allen Johnson's team.

It will be Johnson's decision alone who plays in his opening matchday squad as club chairman Kai Maclean has stated that he trusts his manager to 'always' choose the right team. Sam Freebody who has played incredibly since his successful trial will no doubt be in the squad with the likes of Michael Mccabe, James Williams and Andreas Naterr who have all impressed during pre-season.

Romsey Town V Merthyr Tydfil

Sam Freebody must be waling around Romsey Town like Royalty at the moment the young striker has scored three hattricks already within his short time at the club. Today he scored with a fine header and with two close range strikes which really rattled a lacklustre Merthyr. The young Englishman will be beaming with confidence lately and if he remains at full fitness he could have one **** of a season. Fran Gozalbo will have also pleased his manager as he got himself on the scoresheet with a powerful strike which cannoned off the post and into the net.

Sam Smith looked assured in goal and despite his very tender age looks like a player Romsey will be able to rely on for a very long time. A clean sheet on his first ever competetive start will no doubt boost his confidence. Dan Herowolf and James Williams played strongly today and were always at hand to breakup the Merthyr attacks. Rocco Russo nearly found himself on the scoresheet too with a well placed shot just hitting the bar and fizzing out for a goal kick. Hopefully Romsey Town can keep up this amazing run of form!

Southern League Cup Gets Underway

After their first win in the Calor Gas League Southern & West Romsey will want to continue that form into the Southern League Cup where they will face Leighton in the First Round. Kai Mclean will be relishing seeing his club figing for the Cup this year and he has challenged Allen Johnson to bring the Cup back to the Bypass Ground and back to Romsey.

Southern League Cup - First Round

Romsey Town V Leighton

Romsey easily despatched of Leighton with a ruthless victory which saw the youth that the 'Town' posses' completely obliterate their rivals. Outpaced and outplayed Leighton crumbled to two Andy Samuels goals early on in the first half. The towering striker scored from a Yuri Belenov corner and from a through ball by Danny Croxall. Belenov was also on the scoresheet as he slid in from a tight angle on the right after some clever running down the right hand side of the pitch.

The second half played out a little slower than the first as Leighton looked to keep the Romsey attack at bay. It worked for a while but as legs got tired late on Romsey were able to score one more goal as Danny Welsh scored by cutting in on the left and sending a curling ball into the top right of the Leighton goal. With right back Michael Cwian out injured at present Dan Herowolf was looking tired late on and had to be replaced by Micahel Henson who was made to play out of position. Henson played well there though and could be used again in future games until Cwian is back.

Second Round Progression...

Only played just less than half an hour of competitive football, but still managed an assist and 14 out of 15 passes completed :) Fairly pleased with that debut.

Romsey Town Looking Good At The Moment

Unbeaten under the guidance of both Kai Mclean and Allen Johnson and with the results looking pretty impressive, maybe the ambitious chairman is onto something when he says the clubs progression could see them go extremely far up the leagues. It is however only early days and there is still time for Romsey to be brought back down to Earth with a bang.

Bridgewater v Romsey Town

Romsey once again emphatically beat their opponent who only ever looked like threatening when they took the lead early on in the seventh minute. Romsey did look rattled and it did take them some time to get into their stride again but young Spanish striker Fran Gozalbo took control and before half time had already put Romsey back in the lead scoring the clubs second goal after Andreas Naterr had equalised for the club earlier in the half.

Gozalbo went on to score a second half harrick and was cheered by the Romsey faithful everytime he touched the ball. Naterr and Belenov really impressed out on the wings and the back four of Dan Herowolf, Michael Henson, Christopher Keane and Michael Mccabe looked excellent too. Subs Thomas Hornsletten and Andy Samuels played well with Samuels grabbing a late goal for the club.

"Proud to be given the captain's armband for two of the opening games. Thanks boss. Also just wondering if you could look into my training regime and perhaps have me focusing more on my defensive attributes along with my overall fitness, as these have been a concern for me, throughout my season so far. Thanks again"

International Call Ups

Six Romsey Town players have been called up to their respective countries Under 21's or Under 20's teams. This represents a huge achievement for the club as they may eventually become one of the lowest league teams ever to have full internationals playing at this level. Let hope one day alot of the clubs players make it to the international stage.

Hey, Really like this sort of update. If more of you could do this it would be cool.

Dan Herowolf
"As a Southampton fan, I always thought I would come through the esteemed ranks of the Southampton academy. I took a gamble with the Romsey trials as a bit of fun and I cannot believe it. My friends at school keep asking for my autograph even though when are in a such a low league, but I will keep my head down and focus on and off the pitch.
Kai has been helping me with this and sees potential for me in business, while Allen has ensured me that as long as I keep my football boots on I could be as great as Cafu. In the future I will be looking to add more assists and a few goals to my name."

Romsey Town Forced To Play Eastleigh In Impromptu Friendly

Kai Mclean has tried to fight it but Romsey have been made to play a friendly match during the start of their campaign. Romsey had made Eastleigh their parent club just prior to Mclean's takeover and due to contract complications this deal cannot be terminated nor can this friendly be cancelled. Eastleigh seem happy to disrupt Romsey's season which will have dampened spirits between the two clubs already. Allen Johnson isn't happy either as this match takes place only two days after the 'Towns' win at Bridgewater. He will have to rotate and try to keep his players fresh and fit.

Inconvinient 'Pre-Season' Friendly - Matchday 5

Romsey Town V Eastleigh

View attachment 418515

Romsey Town won't feel too bad for Eastleigh as they totally embarass their suposed parent club. The battering which saw Eastleigh lose 4-1 to Romsey will seem like justice to the Romsey Town chairman and manager who tried to avoid this friendly at all costs. The Romsey midfield totally dominated throught the match and both Pratik Sangle and John Crudda's scored well taken goals. Conor De Souza or 'Conordinho' as he is being known as due to the tricks he displays in training scored with a powerful header from a Tobey Mason corner.

The second half was seemed busier than the first half but only one goal was scored and that was from Andy Samuels who once agan managed to score. His effort was at first saved and spilled by the Eastleigh goalkeeper but Samuels was on his toes and managed to toe-poke the ball in from close range taking advantage of the goalkeepers error.

Scott Trowers Injured 11 Days - Two Weeks

View attachment 418513

Trowers is suffering from a bruised rib which he picked up in a collision with an Eastleigh player is his last match. Allen Johnson is unhappy as he knows Trowers would haven't been injured if the friendly match with eastleigh was cancelled.

Andy Samuels Injured And Out For Two Months!

View attachment 418511

Andy Samuels is another casulty from the impromptu Eastleigh friendly and this one could really hurt Romsey as he will be out for two months with a sprained ankle. Samuels has been playing well for Romsey and has been in form so far. It will now be October when we next see him on the pitch fully fit for Romsey.

International Roundup

Four Romsey Town players made either their Under 21's or Under 20's debut for their countries. As impressive as this was none of the players played exceptionally well and all four were on the losing team. Still this kind of experience can only help each player develop and hopefully now they can all stay in their respective Under 21's or Under 20's international squads perhaps even progressing to the first team in the future.
