Tactics & Training: The " I have a small question " thread

Sorry if this is the wrong place but I didn't think it was worthy of a new topic.

Does anyone know of any tried and trusted corner routines on fm11? I am Man United and can't seem to score from corners or free kicks even though I am using pretty much the same tactics as I used in the older fm games.

Thanks!
I use corners to far post and my best heading CB (8 goals in 24 games), not exactly prolific but he always wins his headers

Hi everyone! Here are some quick questions

1. Sometimes my players kick the ball out when there's an obvious pass to a team mate and when he's not really under pressure. What's wrong and how do I fix it?

2. My free-kick taker always shoots and never passes. How do I change this?

3. If I'm playing with a lonely striker and am not getting enough shots, what can I do? Or similarly, if I'm only getting long shots.

For the 3rd question: I usually give the 'work ball into box instruction' and/or push up my defensive line, but is there anything else (this simple) that I should know? (i'm not looking for complete answers bcoz obviously that also depends on the other team and other factors - just tips)

Thx!
What role is your lone forward on

is this a wide diamond ( mr, ml) or a narrow ( mc, mc) ?

Anyway, I see normally see this as a good thing, restricting the opposition to taking long shots, unless they actually score alot from them

It is a wide diamond and yes it is good that they are mostly being restricted to long shots but it isn't comforting when you see that teams are getting this amount of shots against you.

Wheater has started to hit the net as you can see. He is also my 'best header' on free kicks

Hi mates. I have been playing FM for a long time. I do know a lot about training and tactics, but I seem to be having a problem. It's a training problem with player in their late 20s and early/mid 30s. Their physical attributes start going down, but the rate that they are going down by seems a bit unreal to me. Does any of you agree, or has anyone found a way to resolve this issue?

I'm from Croatia, so my English isn't so good. :D
Thanks in advance. ;)

I'am livid, beyond livid, am so AAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!seriously its not rocket science setting up a wall to defend a direct freekick?! any goalie can do this yet my walls are always in the middle unless a put the team on set piece defending?! like really?! Van der sar can't set up a wall?! FM2011 rather daft.

I have made a tactic that maintains possession very well (60+), and get at least 3 goals a game. However, possession drops significantly when I play against high pressure teams, to like 50ish. How can I remedy this? I usually play slow tempo, short passing, with 2-3-1-1-3 ish formation. It's really a 4-3-3-, but with wingbacks pushed up and a defensive midfielder, a central advanced playmaker and an attacking midfieder, with 3 forwards.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hey i'm currently Man city, and I have some top youth products such as Neymar, Hazard, Poli, Lukaku, Balotelli and Babacar, my question is do these players need constant first team football or would I be alright bringing them on as late subs and playing them in the cup and europa league or generally easier games?

That a serious question? It means they hold up the ball lol so other players can get up in support.

I have answered this question in a pm to the user. In the end , he meant " what does it do under different circumstances." For instance, having the most advanced player in the team on hold up ball when he has run with ball set to often will actually make him act the opposite way so one has to restrict the run with ball and make him play a more direct game to fully taker advantage of this settings true meaning

I can't say that there has been any "great" set pieces instructions shared within the community. I have actually not touched this setting, apart from choosing the corner taker and I tend to score a few. I must admit though, as my team has got a higher reputation, my opposition tends to leave more men behind

good training for strikers and midfielders?

have a look in the training threads in this forum. I have made a sticky thread linking to various threads, amongst those you can find the threads you are after.

It sounds like the reason behind the high possession when facing teams that are NOT closing down high up in the pitch is..well, that they are not closing you down and that the major contribute to this possession is passes between the back 4 and your more defensive midfielders.

In the light of this ( and if this is the case off course), you have to ask yourself if this specific possession is of any value to you. If they results is still good against teams pressing higher up the pitch, well then I would not worry too much. If not and if loosing possession means that you are loosing it in dangerous places, the opposition taking the ball from your fullback and hitting in a cross, then you have a problem. If so, then could you describe what the downside of a lower possession means to you and what you see on the pitch .

Cheers

In terms of developing, nothing beats matches in the first team

.... so any tips on gaining possession against high pressure teams?

If you answer the questions, I might have hints.

But as a short answer, against teams using high pressure, you don't look for high possession, you look for playing your way out of the trouble and hit them hard and punish them for being so aggressive

Okay, sorry for not using this sticky initially. I'm with West Bromwich Albion and have just signed Paul Hardyman as a youth coach. However when I go into training he's not showing atall and I'm not sure how to actually use him in my schedules...

Side question - can you delete the default schedules? They're getting on my ****.

Are you going to training or u18 team then training? He'll be in u18 training as he's a youth coach. Then you select an area for him to work on, not a schedule. On the bottom screen select coaches, select Paul Hardyman, and then to the right it will show the areas he currently coaches, tick/untick boxes as necessary.

And no, the default schedules stay i'm afraid.

Oh, sorry man, I didn't realize you asked me questions. Hmmm ... well we seem to have good possession in all parts of the pitch, and my defence is very solid. I understand what you mean about taking the good results even with lower possession. But I am working on a Barcelona tactic, and this is one of the last sticking points that I have. Barcelona's game is based on the principle of possession, and even if they "play their way out of trouble", it's still by dominating possession.

What I want to know is, within the confines of the game, how can I counter the high pressure opposition? Presently, I make the shouts get stuck in & hassle opponents, and that works to alleviate some of the pressure, but I still don't dominate possession as I do against other teams.

OH okay right, thanks. I was getting a bit confused because Dan Ashworth is also listed as a Youth Coach but I could use him for my main team training too (but he defaulted with the club so I'm guessing it's different). I guess I can only use designated main coaches. Just signed a coach from ManU and he appeared straight away, thanks.

This game sometimes gets very irritating. Is there way to beat Inter because in the game it's impossible to even retain possession?...
