Tactics & Training: The " I have a small question " thread

Just finished a season with my catania team

On match preparation everything was full

At the start of the next season they went down agian

Why did that Happen?

Because your players have had the holidays. It will build backup before the season starts, so long as you play friendlys with your tactics.

And the answer?...

You asked if they could be beaten, I did answer your question ;)

In regards to beating them, What formation are they playing, your formation, match prep. levels, TEAM? Players ..... Need some info to be able to help really.

If there on form and your not, don't expect to win, the beauty of football, sometimes a team is unstoppable, shortly after they can't win anything (Chelsea ;))

I am playing as united with a 4-2-3-1 system. i need help with the advanced settings tempo, defensive line etc. can anyone give me some tips please as to what worked best for them in having a solid defence, playing with a decent amount of width and at a generally fast(ish) tempo ?

I'm playing with Palermo, prefer to use a 4-3-1-2. My current line-up is: Sirugu-Cassani-Bassong-Bovo-Migliaccio-Maresca-Nocerino-Pastore-Hernandez-Mchedlidze...

My match prep. scene shows that team is adapted quite well to system, all catagories is shown as accomplished...

Inter plays a deep 4-5-1 and whenever I've played with them, Sneijder scores a 35 meter or they score from a corner. I've worked on corners and closed down on the opponents but nothing seems to work...

I've tried with 4-4-2, 5-3-2, 4-2-3-1 with differnt strategies each but always same result. Even if I score one they peg immediately and 5 minutes later Sneijder scores from space...

If you change tactics on short notice you normally won't see results, the team takes time to get used to the tactical system.

Try man marking Schneijder out of the game if he's the main problem. If your struggling for possession, and being the smaller team, try hitting them with counter attacking football.

Possibly try making one change in your midfield, and drop one of your 3 CM's back to a DM, the small tweak won't ruin your match prep, and might well work.

Increase width to increase the width of your team, generally got for wider = faster tempo, try and keep them level with each other.
As for defence, you'll need their individual settings, have your LB and RB as fullback > automatic, that would work well enough. One central defender (Rio) as Limited > Cover and Vidic being Limited > Stopper. This should hold out on condeding too many goals.

hi,

i have a 1st team coach who has really high man management, mental and motivation ratings...but nothing good coaching wise. Is he pointless? or is the mere fact he's on my coaching staff use his abilities? he's not assigned to any coaching area atm.

His best areas will be Ball Control and Set Pieces, so set him to one of them.
If he's young, consider keeping him as a coach for the future, if not then just let him go.

how do you know that? where can I find the guideline for this?

What do you guys think about 4-1-3-2 formation? Why there aren't many ppl use this in their tactic both IRL and in FM?

You can find out here.

If you mean playing 3 CM's
Its like a mix between defensive and offensive football, which not many teams enjoy. Your width is going to come from your FB's, making you prone to the counter from wide teams. Its more a possession based tactic, being heavy in the centre of midfield, and most teams look to either attack, or defend and hit on the counter, rather than sit with the ball in the middle of the park, waiting for that lucky break.

I'm probably being a pleb but how do you set more than one player to the same position in set pieces, for example more than one player marking keeper, I've seen it in other peoples tactics but can't figure out how to do this myself

The FM11 Tactics System will only allow you to have one player challenging the goalkeeper.

OK specifically I'm looking at Koflok's goalsgalore tactics atm, for attacking free kicks he has 3 players marking keeper...

I honestly don't know, no matter which way i come to do it, it isn't letting me have more than one, it just swaps them round when you change another player onto it. Maybe hes used a tactic from last years FM, as you could do it back then?

Yeah all i can get them to do is swap around, even if I use the dragging instead of the click down menu, ok I'll post on his thread and ask!

Would a narrow formation (like 4-1-2-1-2 or 4-1-3-1-1) fail big time vs much better teams? As I'm trying to beat bigger team, I suppose the best way is counter, fast and direct. As defending with the ball might be abit too risky. I've usally had wide midfielders working with my FB's to get some crosses into the box, but considering trying out some narrow play.

This depends on your players, opponents tactics and more advanced settings. Honestly i prefer playing inside forwards, so always have wide men.

If your looking for counter try jus playing one fast striker, having the extra option in defence of midfield. I'd say 5-4-1 is the best tactic for counter-attacking football.

Thanks, its the answer I expected :)
Guess I will go with a 4-1-4-1 vs bigger teams.
So have to sign some wide midefielders then :p
