***THE BETTER HALFS TACTIC UPLOAD & DISCUSSION

Ended up using the 4-2-4 with Bayern and the 4-2-3-1 with PSG. Not particularly happy with either tactic, mind you.

Thaks for the feedback. When reading through your post, I spot a pattern and it has to do with the expectations perhaps not being realistic in relation to how one plays the game. I will answer the different aspects below and you will see that it all comes down to the things menioned above

At home attacks seem to bog down before the opposition's defence can be broken - almost all goals were scored on the counter. Away from home I found things were inconsistent (to be expected I suppose).

If speaking about the 424, most goals will be scored on the counter no matter what approach one uses. Its just down to the fact that the TC cant make the AMR and AML track back properly using the default settings, something that IS en engine flaw. This not only means that our fullbacks and MCs spot these good counter opportunities more often ( i.e lauch them more often) but they will also be more dangerous since we often come up 4 versus 4 or even 4 versus 3. I have scord plenty of goals form breakomng down their defence to though, using constant movement and overlaping fullbacks.

To be fair though, this isn't specifically a problem I've found with your high-rep team tactics, I've had trouble with others when messing about too, it seems tactics which try and mix in possession without going to voodoo lengths to retain the ball end up failing since they are both easy to sit behind and launch counterattacks against. Not that you can't win playing like that - it just requires individual brilliance. My style in the transfer market doesn't lend to that too well, I love unproven young players and I want to be able to throw them into the side and still win. With teams like Man U (judging by my brothers' save in particular) it seems like you can win so long as you throw enough individual talent at your opponents and play in a fairly cohesive manner.

Agree, but this is actually the core of a top notch team, the things that makes you one. You need players with individual brilliance AND brilliant team players with high work rate, determination and team work. If you dont have this in your side ( or rather on the pitch), then the team isnt really a top notch team.

If looking at the result in my Asenal - Swansea match you will see that we detroyed them WITH a extremly high possession rate and here, all goals came from a probing and patient buyild up. BUT, it required constant movement. Not only players with the ability to do it, but with the will to carry on doing so for 90 full minutes

Love the approach though! Being able to simply tick off or on a shout to alter how the tactic works was great in practice ... I'll give the 4-3-1-2 and maybe one or two underdog tactics a go next.

It is a great ay of playing. And remember, that the suggested shouts to implement pre-match start are in fact only suggestions. You could easily play in a different manner too if it suits the team better ( like perhaps a mixture between the 4231 middle team tactic and the 442 top team, i.e using the fact that uyou have pacey attackers etc)
With all this said, you need to perhaps alter the expectation or chnage the way you use the players etc.

Remember, if you want corn, plant corn :D

In these matches, I have basically followed the pattern from previous matches.

  • [*=center] At home, we start with the Attacking possession version and when NOT needing to score more goals, I have reverted to the Quick Counter

[*=center]Away, we have started with the Balanced approach and again, when not needing to score more goals or wanting to kill the game, we switch to the Quick Counter

[*=center]In the Juve game, I let my fullbacks be on defend and let them man mark their AMR and AML ( as they played the exploiting 424)

what is your main start 11 ?? looks very good

Maicon & Chivu as Fullbacks.
Cambiasso as DPL ( defend)
Rotate all the DMC/MC ( including Zanetti) team players as the outer MCs
Dutch bloke as AMC
Forlan as left FC
Pazzini as right FC, Milito as 2nd choice. Zarate as à great choice when wanting to counter down the flanks.

So, I am basiclly using à boring and strong central brick Wall :)

I've got three ideas I'd like some help on.

1. What are your thoughts on a 2 CB defense, with 2 DMs ahead of them and no sidebacks? Have both DMs specific mark opponents highest wing player so they act as sidebacks on defense.

2. What about a 1 CB defense with 2 sidebacks and 2 dms (I call it The Sentinel) and have sidebacks specific mark STCl and STCr and the DMs mark the side midfielders. That way sidebacks come in and create a narrow tight d line and expand out wide on offense. The DMs go out and cover the flanks. This style dominates possession.

3. I play with a STL (on the flank) and a AMR, and I want to play a sidemidfielder in the dani alves role. What side should I put him on? Behind the striker as most of the flank is open, or behind the AMR where he can overlap? I know the sidemidfielder will play like a Sideback on defense when nobody is behind him, and he will push up to midfield or higher when team is in possession so he becomes an extra passing option that my formation needs.

@TheBetterHalf I used the tactic for a few games and you were right on the other thread about us not controlling possession, the first match I lost 6-2 to Fulham and then a 4-0 away at Arsenal, there was a couple of 0-0 draws after that and then I was in January. I signed another Dm/Cm so I could manage the squad better and it allowed me to put 3 in the centre, I figured it would help with controlling the game. Your tactic gave me a lot of insight into how the tactics work, especially the shouts. I noticed that the 'work ball into box' was just having my players hold the ball too long and not really get far with it, the opposition defense always cut it out and we created few chances with our possession. So I changed to a 4-1-2-2-1 and used the 'retain possession' 'drop deeper' and 'work the flanks' shouts from your tactic, everything else I left the same and we've been doing very well since. Even beating Man City 1-0, a 2-3 loss to Fulham again hurt us, they got two goals in injury time to come from behind but overall it's been working well. Thank you for the help, you really helped me see some of the things I was doing wrong and I should be able to build on it from here. It's great to have people who know the game well to turn too, it's much appreciated.

TheBetterHalf

how can I save four tactic.. in menu starting tactic I can have only three?

You save the 3 tactics you think you will use the most, if your not a top team then maybe you won't use the attacking/control so much. Otherwise you can choose one of the counter attacking formations since TBH has usually a counter and a cautious(which has counter as strategy).

I'm using your 4-2-3-1 tactic (middle team) for Boro and I did a control tactic as well for the Championship.Things going pretty well, still having spells of losing streaks mind. What I do find is that the team attacks with everybody but the 2 centre backs. Have you tried making the 2 CMs (Deep lying play and defend) into DMs ? They may sit back a wee bit more or not ?

its suits my team good in player roles but is it to attacking ?

Fancy making one for Newcastle mate?

One to suit us a lot more for lets say away games and home??

I have made à beta version of à Newcastle 4231( with dmcs) that you can find in My own forum. Basiclly, its the wide& deep 4222 with one FC pulle back into amc as à inside forward.

I've got Boro to the Premeirship with your middle team 4-2-3-1, but I was thinking that the CMs should drop back into the DM position. I've had a look at your beta version and the formations have a Complete St (with the your tactic I'm using now it's apoacher upfront) My question is - does it have to be a Complete ST ?

You should be able to use à poacher instead, I have just not tried it :).

Good start ! What approaches did you use in those matches, 3(che) - 1(roch) - 2(su) - 1(wh) ?
Chelsea started with your West Brom (4-2-3-1 middle team) cautious and then dropped down the CMs to DMs when I was getting overrun after 30 mins.
Afterwards I thought I must change to a DMC tactic in the Premeir otherwise I'd get slaughtered.
Rochdale went over to your Newcastle beta tactics, balanced approach(1). S'land started with balanced (1)went over to aggresive counter(2) after going behind 0-1. Birmingham balanced (1) approach.

Sounds good :D

I have just started my career game, starting with Leicester. This season, I am using the Italian narrow 4312
