ITALIAN 4312
A TOP TEAM & MIDDLE TEAM TACTIC

Notice! The tactic is NOT uploaded. Instead, just follow the instructions as how to set it up. Any tweaks away from the pure TC-settings will be pointed out in the text and/or the screenie.

Disclaimer: This is in no way emulation.

Here, we will find not 2 or 3 but 4 approaches. When playing with a top notch team, the aim will always be to BE IN CONTROL OF THE GAME, no matter how the opponent chose to play .The key is to see if your players are finding space that they can exploit or of they have to create it them selves, if the players need to sit deeper and counter or if you have to push up and gain control by hassle the opponent. As you also see, this approach is not for top teams only, but also for middle teams.

Top teams vs. Middle tams – What approach are I most likely to use?

Well, if playing as Milan, you are more likely to face defensive teams and actually be able to stretch them ( as you are quality), hence using the first approach more often than lets say Genoa, that are morel likely to use the more balanced possession approach

Suited for: Almost all Italian Teams, teams that do have the quality to finish top 12(!), i.e. not being a real underdog
along with having many box2box midfielders, wingbacks/fullbacks and few wingers

1st strategy: Attacking Possession

Here, we play a balanced control based approach and let our fullbacks bomb the flanks and provide the width along with our attackers and box2box MCs that moves into channels players provide lots of width and we hassle the opponent and at the same time we try to keep possession when getting back the ball.

If playing against really deep sitting teams, It can be a good idea to actually shout “drop deeper” in a way to stretch the opponent even more and if this ultra defensive opponent is using a holding DMC that gets a lot of ball, us the AMC to specifically man mark him and close him down always in the OI´s.

nr1s.png

2nd Strategy Direct Counter

Here, we play on the counter, getting the ball forward. We push up the team and play more direct balls into channels for our attackers and wingers to run onto. This is a way to exploit either the gap between the opponents attacking wingers and their deep sitting defenders and/or their attacking fullbacks, playing the ball over the top. If the opponent sits with the whole team behind the ball, this approach can be fruitless. Although it’s not dangerous playing this approach incorrectly .We will just not find the space to play the ball into but instead holding it deep.

nr2l.png

3rd Strategy: A BALANCED APPROACH

If being uncertain how to start a match, this is ALWAYS a good option

Here, we try to sit with more men behind the ball, retaining possession and keeping the ball in the team. Obvious, we will still burst at goal and since we play with 5 attacking minded players (by roles and player types), this will happen often. The fullbacks will overlap with the box2box that here, playing one-two with each other and moves up with the rest of the team and keep the shape.. In short, we play a nice possession based approach in that sense that we keep possession in good positions and restrict the opponent to keeping possession far away from our goal.

nr3ng.png

4th Strategy: Cautious Counter

Here, we are playing much more cautious, perhaps an approach that will mainly be used away to really good teams or when wanting to grind out a result or hold on to a results. To cool things down a bit.

Can explain to me what is this 'TC' and 'Plug and Play' tactic? What does they mean by exploit?

Can explain to me what is this 'TC' and 'Plug and Play' tactic? What does they mean by exploit?

TC = Tactic Creator, the wizard
Plug & Play = A tactic that you just import and then just hit the continue button
Exploit = Taking advantage of something ( an flaw in the ME), or, focusing really hard on something( like when shouting Exploit the flanks,i.e the wingers have a higher mentality and move forward more often and the central players acts like holding players

Now, time for a save of My own. Well deserved I think :) Now comes the hard part, finding à interesting team and chose which of My approaches to use...

Pregame:
Before the match, I did not know exactly what to expect. So, I start with a Balanced approach. As you see, Roma played a 41221.

View attachment 218473

We score a goal within the first 20 minutes and after that, I decided to play a Counter attack football instead.

View attachment 218474

I was actually happy about the results and knew that If Roma would try to get back into the game, I would punish them on the counter. If they would still play their direct counter attack football, sitting deep and defend, then I would keep possession instead and the match results would only be effected by

- My players pulling off something special ( more likely with my huge possession advantage)
- Their players making defensive errors

- Their players pulling off something special ( less likely with their low possession)
- Their players making defensive errors

In the end, my players did NOT have the best of days, being unable to penetrate their defense BUT as they still sat deep, they had no chance of scoring against me

THE ITALIAN WAY OF WINNING :D
View attachment 218475

Looking at the stat, you can see that they had very few passes in the dangerous areas and if looking again and the complete passes, you will see that they had almost none into or outside the area

2ND MATCH AWAY TO View attachment 218483

Pregame:

Again, its about getting a good start. At their home ground and especially at the beginning of the season, most teams will play more attacking and fancy their chances. With this in mind, I again decided to go for the more Balanced approach

We actually scored in the first minute. Maicon making a run donw the right flank, crossing in to Forlan that slots it away

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms;"><font size="3">

Only 20 minutes later, the same scenario happened. Maicon moves down the flank and puts in a ball, this time to his nearest forward that receives the ball and beats his man.

http://

At half time, I changed to the quicker counter approach. The reason was the same as in the previous match. If they attack us, I will have a good chance killing the game scoring 3-0. If they dot attack us, I will just hold possession

Again, we scored within the minute, this time after Atalanta had tried top get back into the game, attacking us. Look how we outnumbered them in this attacking move.

After this, they sat back and we just held possession, winning 3-0

Looking at the heatmap, you will see that we play mostly like a narrow diamond, playing really tight but when looking at the movement -the times we past the opponents - we do so in style, actually using the full pitch

No 1 - Playing away in the CL is no picnic

Here, I played the game very similar to the Atalanta match. I started out with the Balanced approach but could also have gone for the even more Cautious counter approach, playing really, really defensive for being a top team. Went 2 goals up. After that, I switched to the more Direct Counter and we scored 2 more goals, winning 4-0. The 3rd goal was us exploiting their high defence line when they tried to get back into the match. The 4th goal was simply because they gave up

Same procedure as above regarding starting tactic and match scenario. We started with the Balanced approach, went 2 goals up, played quick counter attacks, scored the 3-0 goal and they gave up, use winning 4-0

4th game

Now, I wanted to play more attacking, so I went for the Control approach,as usual using all the suggested shouts before the kickoff. We scored 1-0 and 2-0 from set pieces and then, the team looked complacent

Since I did not actually need to score more goals, I switched to the Direct Counter. As you see, the opponent never even tried to get back in the game and just like in the opening game against Roma, we just sat there, shooting from distance. Being happy with that, keeping a huuuuuge possession advantage, I continued with the appraoch. Sneijder managed to score from one of those screamers, making it 3-0.

If I had wanted to score for, crushing them, I could probably have done so but then again, there would have been a small, small risk of it backfire, us conceding a goal and since the players where complacent, the risk would have been a little bit bigger. So once again, winning the Italian way means 3 more point and we are yet to
concede

Just thought I'd share this result, FA cup quarters, Boro are in the championship, used your wide 4-1-2-2-1 cautious approach. I'm leading the Championship by 9 pts with 10 games to go as well. Thankyou

Looks like it was à 41221 worth Waiting for then :)

Looking forward to see the results from the coming matches and some screenies of the final table.

Love this approach to making tactics (as opposed to constantly micromanaging sliders). I'll be using your high rep 4-2-4 for ideas/basis and I'll let you know how it goes!

Well this doesn't seem to be going well at all. It resembles my own failing tactics (easily win the Championship and then awful in the Premeir League)

View attachment 219207

I very rarely play the control tactic (4-5-1) since I don't think I can control a game.

Update:- lost to Liverpool 2-1, Bolton 1-1 and the thrashed S'Land 4-1 :-D. Not expecting to win anything but most games I'm not even in the game. Arsenal played with 10 men for 80 minutes and ran me ragged.

Does the CM need to be B2B or can he be a CM Support ?

Striker - should I be looking at Complete ST or Advanced ST or Poacher or Deep ST att, your formations have different roles.

I'm sorry but this doesn't work for the Boro. I'm losing patience with this game, it seems if your not a tactical genius then it's just a ****** good way to get annoyed. Now it's just crippled all my forwards before the Man Utd game.

I'll start again and try out your 4-2-3-1 tactics, unsure which one to go with though.

In the end, it also has to do with expectations. As à newly promoted team, I would look to stay clear from relegation, focusing on man management to avoid poor confidence, try beating the middle/bottom teams and strengthen the defence for the coming season. I dont think that its that weird that you keep loosing to the top teams as their attackers are so much better than your defenders. Apart from the wolves match , your losses has come against teams with really strong squads and/or really good and pacey strikers( read aston villa).

In short, I would be happy with à 10-14 position.

I take your point. It's just that after winning so many matches in the Championship, it is really very difficult to watch game after game with defeat or getting run ragged. FM 12 can be so realistic that it becomes less fun. :-)

I'm still starting afresh with 4-2-3-1 (middle team) since the tactics are balanced (fluid never seems to work with the Boro) and I have 3 poachers in my side. Keep up the good work TBH.

Update with 4-2-3-1 middle team tactic. Seems this suits Boro better (although it is in the Championship and I usually win it but the matches are not so close and the football is a joy to watch)

You do that :)

Ended up using the 4-2-4 with Bayern and the 4-2-3-1 with PSG. Not particularly happy with either tactic, mind you. At home attacks seem to bog down before the opposition's defence can be broken - almost all goals were scored on the counter. Away from home I found things were inconsistent (to be expected I suppose).

To be fair though, this isn't specifically a problem I've found with your high-rep team tactics, I've had trouble with others when messing about too, it seems tactics which try and mix in possession without going to voodoo lengths to retain the ball end up failing since they are both easy to sit behind and launch counterattacks against. Not that you can't win playing like that - it just requires individual brilliance. My style in the transfer market doesn't lend to that too well, I love unproven young players and I want to be able to throw them into the side and still win. With teams like Man U (judging by my brothers' save in particular) it seems like you can win so long as you throw enough individual talent at your opponents and play in a fairly cohesive manner.

Love the approach though! Being able to simply tick off or on a shout to alter how the tactic works was great in practice ... I'll give the 4-3-1-2 and maybe one or two underdog tactics a go next.
