***THE BETTER HALFS TACTIC UPLOAD & DISCUSSION

Well, I wasn't sure how to manage using the four different approached so I just use Balanced, Counter and Cautious. Most games I would start either Balanced or Counter as usually we're the underdogs, then when in the lead going to Cautious to try to hold out for a result. Amazingly, managed to get Pescara to the Coppa Italia semifinal only losing out to Inter. Towards the end of the season though form/morale dropped severely and that's something I'm not used to improving so we dropped a bit and finished in a playoff spot. Lost out in the playoff final but I'm forcing myself not to rage quit and plough on for another season! I've managed to keep Marco Verratti who is a super young club-grown talent for the time being. Any advice?

Edit: I spose one issue I'm having is that regardless of approach we have a lot of long range shots and at times almost no shots at all, shall I blame it a lack of quality in the team and if so, how would I get around this? Minimise long shots?

Well, its is an Narrow Italian tactic :) Basiclly these means that we use little space and and the players have no passing option, they shoot from distance. When I am in the lead and switch to counter, I either keep possesion , shoot these long shots and win or if the opponent starts to attack, hit them with Quick counter attacks and score. Either way, I win :)

As for reducing the longshots, the shout " work ball into box" already does that.

When playing with underdogs like you do, its hard when the players are out Of form or have poor morale, being overconfident. They are simply too poor to not put in the effort or having à bad day. Top teams with quality players get away with it more often as the players not only are likely to make better decisions but also due to that they have squad depth, letting you rest those players that are struggling.

I'm playing a 4-2-3-1 with Newcastle, not doing too badly.. 7th in prem, first season and it's Feb, but I'm conceding too many goals from crosses and long shots, any advice?

Cheers

What aporoaches and versions have you been using ? The top, middle or underdog, the attacking , more cautious etc. Can you give me some examples as how you use these " sets" , ingame changes/reactions etc .

Cheers

Also, are you using the shouts prematch kickoff and are you on 12.1.1 ?

That's my starting tactic, if at home against say Wigan or someone, i'll set it to 'control'
If away, against Spurs I'd play counter.
I have two other versions of the tactic, one for all out attack and one for total defence (I use both rarely, unless I badly need a goal or last 10mins I'm winning against a better team)

I'm on 12.1.1 :)

Aha, I am sorry, I missunderstood you . I thought you where using one Of My team tactics .

Its hard to say where you go wrong. When you are playing control, is it still on the counter with the box ticked and you are playing counter, is it still in this high tempo and with little time wasting? Are there more tweaks made to the tactic such as the mentality and closing down Of the players ?

Cheers

Fair enough! :D So would you suggest any tweaks for a struggling team or shall I keep ploughing on? Season 2 has given me mixed results thus far.

Edit: Playoffs second year in a row, only this time we got promotion! Here's to a Serie A struggle.

Looking forward to seing if you ragequit in Serie À. Seriously though, if you are prepared for à tough year, it wont be à problem loosing more than winning as long as you stay up.

hello.. am playing as leverkusen in germany.. thinking to go for 4-5-1 but what approch should you recommend ?? thanks in advice

hi TBH, can i use The Italian 4312 project for Man Utd?

Indeed you can although I would say that the flat 442 Will get you more goals. In the end, man u are so overpowered that you can use almost any basic framework and win the prem.

Haha, I haven't ragequit yet! Eleven games and in the relegation zone, not surprised as there hasn't been the finances for drastic team improvements..and considering the tactic relies on pretty decent players it's been very tough in Serie A. Just gonna keep going and pray :p

Hi TheBetterHalf,

Ive been trying some of your tactics with mixed results so wanted to experiment a bit using the similar approach. Now the only thing that has got me slightly perplexed is the touchline shouts and combinations youre using.

Now i have read all of the descriptions for shouts but cant seem link them all together to make a tactic out of it. Is there an additional source i should be looking at when it comes to combinations that work.

thanks for any assistance

Not really. Its just down to what one wants to do and with what players. So you have have to have à specific squad or type of players in mind and then think how this team would benefit from playing. Perhaps we should look for more direct balls over the top onto our quick target man and wingers using " get ball forward, pass into space". But if we have à slow team, we might be better off keeping possession and move upfield as à unit with " pass to feet, retain possession". Now, if this is our main approach, what problems might we bump into and how should they be solved. How should this quick team play when the opposition sits deep. Perhaps use much more space when keeping possession to still use our strengths, playing " wider, exploit flanks" etc etc

Do you have an example Of à scenario you have trouble using the shouts for ?

Dont really have an example but i would like to create what i call a tactical book, basically plays (shouts) that will hold on to a lead, control, counter and frustrate opposition no matter the level. If that makes sense

granted control for man u might be different to lets say leeds but something generic would do

Conceding all the time using cautios in causton, the tactic doesnt seem to be working here are my players

smithies, walker, wilson, loovens, kebe, shelvey, moussa sissoko, kearns, ballotelli, fierro
