***THE BETTER HALFS TACTIC UPLOAD & DISCUSSION

Just started a game with QPR using your QPR 4231 tac, going horrible so far. 3-0 loss home against spurs, 4-0 loss away at sunderland, cant win homegame against Doncaster.

Hope this will turn around but my players cant score while the opponent just cuts through my defense easily.

edit:
if i may make a suggestion, i would like it if you explain the tactics more, and if they were placed in seperate threads, for example a 442 thread with the 442 options, a 4231 thread etc. Makes it easier to read and understand imo.

Also results are always nice.

Sorry that the approach has not worked for you. How did you do in the preseason and what approach and shouts have you been using mostly?

As for making multiple threads, I prefer having all my tactics here in one. The information about the tactics is enough as I feel . There is a short explanaition what kind of appraoches each and everyone one of them are ( ie. the shouts turns them into) and then the main strategy and roles are there to see. What kind of information do you feel is missing ? Is it about the tactics, how to read the match engine and know when to use what approach or is it what formation and appraoch one should use for a specific team?

Cheers

Yes :D. I usually spend 75% of my gaming time on mp games so i suck at this one, stuff that may be obvious for you may be totally new for me. Ive had multiple games where i start only to have some bad games + lots of injuries = no morale left = quit and make new game :P.

For the QPR game: i just used the shouts you put in the picture, wasnt i supposed to use them all? i just used the regular QPR team with the wintertransfers edit. I didnt stand a chance at all against Tottenham, Sunderland and i quit when i was 3-0 down at Liverpool. Basically i didnt have any form of controll which the tactic tries to get.

Btw about the prematch friendlies: did pretty decent in those, using the 'control' tactic instead of the counter tactic, but that was against championship or lower teams, the counter tactic just doesnt seem to work at all.

On a sidenote i assume a 442 tactic with Targetman and poacher would be best for Leeds right? Keep failing with them over and over again :(

Yeah, thats basiclly what happends. If you fail with the man management, morale goes down the drain and it does not matter how you instruct your players as they will fail to put in a performance. Here, its important to sit down and read some guides on how the games actually works. If I tell you you exploit the space behind the AI fullbacks, you still need to be able to see when the space is there and when its not, knowing when to retain possession and when to hit those direct balls into channels

Yes, the groupshout should be implemented pregame.. As for choice of team, I think you have picked the hardest possible, a totally ungelled team with soo many new players when including this winterupdate. I suggest playing with a team like Aston Villa or West Brom until getting the grips of the game

Hm, did you save the main counter version as a tactic and put it in the match prep or did you just tweak one tactic?. I ask because if you used a control strategy in the preseason, then the team did not get fluid with the strategy (counter) you started the season with

Leeds is another team that you should stay away from :D Their squad is under average but have a high status and the board wants promotion. This leads to that the opponents will play cautious and compact against you and as you dont really have the players to open up space and stretch these defenisve teams, the opponent has an advantage over you here. I have got Leeds promoted but it took some really hard work, looking at many matches in full mode and analyzing what happend on the field. I had to be more active and pay attention to every little detail

Haha thanks, i had an idea about that with Leeds. They have so much mediocre players.

Im reading up on some guides. Ill just keep on trying until i kill some1 cause i got another corner goal against lol.

On a sidenote the Chelsea 451 mid-team link links to the italian 4312 tac.

Gonna try Aston Villa now i think. Ill be back in 10 minutes when i ragequit again ;)

Omfg. Just started Aston Villa game, winning all pre season matches using both counter and standard tactic. (442)

First league game: WBA away, i used the counter tac, even tho i was the favourite to win. Got RAAAAAAAPED. They just run through my defense laughing. I used all the shouts pre-game as mentioned, maybe i shouldnt have used all cause of their 4231 tactic but still, they had 26 shots on goal.......6ccs.

Sometimes i hate this game so much, why arent their most important players injured? Why dont their strikers miss every CC? Why dont they have 2 players injured per game or lose 15% fitness in 10 sec?

I might have made mistakes but I chose to play SAFE, and i get 26 shots against...why do i even field defenders if they dont know which way to kick the ball?

lol 5 games 2 points cant even win home against QPR 3-3 game is pathetic

One question btw, when am i supposed to play the counter tactic when they standard tactic?

I used the counter in (almost all) away games, the standard against weaker or even teams and counter against the top teams.

Also it seems like the other shouts contradict the counter tactic or is that just me? I mean by not playing the ball deep, it makes sense a bit cause of the push up higher shout but for some reason it doesnt seem to create a lot of real chances.

edit: sorry for my spam and rage btw, its just insanely frustrating failing over and over again without understanding why. I really dont understand why these tactics dont work for me. Combine that with loads of injuries and 85th minute losses to corner-goals and im kicking in doors here :(

Firstly, are you on the latest patch, the 12.1.1 ?

My first advice would be to play some matches in full mode and look at the flow of the game. Look what morale can do, what the shouts do and what flairfull attackers can do with defenders with poor anticipation etc etc. In short, learn a bit about reading the game. After that, dont give upp after just a few matches. Practice some with the press conf and the team talk, ptractice with the individual chats to get under the skin of your players

Now, as an answer to your posts
Who did you use as Target man and who as adv/poacher ? Apart form that, where did their d-line sit. deep, pushed up etc ? What did you do to react when you got crushed ? What diud you say pregame and at half time, and after the game. What was said in the press conf before and and after the game etc.

The game is not pathetic, its just you that are a poor manager :D

In what way do their contradict what ?. The version is supposed to be a tight and agressiv counter approach. We push up a bit and close down the opponents more. When in possession in defence, our players keep a simple game to draw the opponenst on to use and when our midfielders get the ball, we lauch quick balls into channels. This is how a tight and agressiv counter approach is setup. One might want to use a different one and other ways of playing might suit the team and circumstances better but when wanting to play this way within a flat 442 using really quick attackers, this is a superb way

This approach will not work though against teams that sit deep and play possession football, uwing more of the wisth than we do, but still in a tight formation that floods the midfield. Then one has to find other ways, like the standard version

I always thought countering needed a fast direct passing tactic, happy to learn tho. I know i suck but still. Getting crushed every game with Aston Villa is almost worthy of praise lol.

Ill try a new game, maybe with a top team this time lol.

This is the setup i used

TM: Agbonlahor/Heskey (agbo got injured for a few months in preseason sigh)
P: Best/Keane

LW: Nzogbia with training to leftmid
RM: Albrighton
BBM: Petrov/Jenas
CM: Ireland also instantly injured so Bannan/Jenas
LB: Warnock
RB: Hutton
DCs: Dunne + Cuellar
Keeper: Given.

For some reason im playing with 12.0.0 i think, need to check it again, i tried updating with steam tho yesterday and it didnt work.

edit: yes its 12.0.0 for some reason i cant choose 12.1.1 hmm i feel like either im stupid or somethings wrong

Dunno if this makes any sense but in preferences it says 12.1.1 but the database i use when i start a new game is the 12.0.0 cant choose a 12.1.1 if there is any.

I dont think you are playuing with 12.0.0. The databas will still be 12.0.0 but when you look under ( ingame) FM/game status, you will see that it will say 12.1.1

As for counter attacks, they will be launched quickly. Dont let the tempo fool you as its the tempo used when not launching a counter attack

Well im gonna start again with West Ham, read the stuff about pre/post/during match instructions, hope thatll help with morale at least.

For West Ham would you advise the Man Utd 442? Im not sure if they have the players for that.

Hola, back again. Been looking at more full/extended matches with West Ham its actually going pretty decent (although im still in first 5 league games) Been winning/drawing most so far, but team isnt gelled 100% yet, whats most important is the tactic seems to be working and the morale is a lot better than usually. Been using that guidetofm site for that.

One question tho, the tactic plays really un-oportunistic patient football, i just played Leicester at home, drew 1-1 but couldnt get through their defense until i switched to attacking more opportunistic tactic. Was 0-1 down, my team wasnt worse than them just not getting through what do you do when that happens? They played what i think was a standard 442 not attacking, not defensive either and they have a insanely fast striker (Delfouneso)

It depends on how the opponent are playing. If they sit deep and defend, I never play more attacking than Control. I also then prefer to play with a deeper d-line, much wider and with the players playing through defence. Here, movement form deep is really important and having your wingers raom and moving into channels along with the more creative MC and FC also roaming. Mind you, if playing in the Championship, most teams are pretty even and its not certain to work anyway

Yeah thought so. Should i put the wingers to 'move into channels' in the 442? Dont have that.

Also about the wingers, for some reason their crosses always get headed away, my ML has only 2 assists so far (crossing 15) my mr Faubert has 0 assists (12 crossing). Is there something i need to change so their crosses actually arrive at my strikers? Or is this just something coming with the un-opportunistic way of playing? So far i am winning and it doesnt really matter who scores and how, its just something that might be useful to improve on.
