The problem with his fitness is he's not played a game of football since the Derby last season. April 20. Over 4 months ago. And he's barely trained in that time. He was completely shut down then for last season. And he picked up an Achilles the very start of this pre-season, which he was late back to with WADA and UEFA dragging their respective heels, so missed out on that. Only the last week or so he's been back outside.

So he's had virtually nottin' in over 4 months. That's quite the break to be starting behind everyone. And outside of the odd U-23 game or behind closed doors friendly, where are the games he'd need to get match fit for a PL game? And he's never been a quick returner. It always takes him 4 or 5 games to get back upto speed when ever he's been out for L'pool.

To in effect be starting his pre-season now, leaves him playing serious catchup for most the season and puts he and any suitor at a massive disadvantage surely?

There's about 50 games this season including cups. As a centre back this is less exposed. You would have him doing effectively a second pre-season, helped hugely by the international window, he'd be back playing mid september and fully fit by late september/october,, thats not even close to most of the season. Even if it took him 6-8 weeks you are still looking at him back mid-late ocotober. It's not going to take him longer than any mid term injury.

Liverpool alone play 8 games by the end of october, not counting u23 games. Fitness doesnt really come into it. Lack of opportunities to get said fitness? Different story, and that's the real crux of the matter.

Therein lies the problem. Where are the games to get that fitness outside of U-23's/ behind closed doors half baked ones? The odd Lge Cup game at a stretch but you're nowhere near ready for a PL game. The opportunity's just aren't there.

You can train and get in physical shape but without the games to get in match shape you're constantly chashing it. 4 months of virtually nothing is a big disadvantage. You're just playing catch-up. If he was still in favour at Anfield, it'd be a lot longer than October the demands on L'pool players now. If you're not at peek match fitness you're disrupting the whole system.

Which means he's viewed as less than rotation, which means it's not about the fitness at all. THATS the point I'm making. Even then a dedicated program still gets him back. Which they are less interested in getting him fit than they claim.

It wouldn't be longer either, Klopp had injury issues at dortmund before, players are never out significantly longer than usual, even the mids who do the running

Oh we know any loan isn't about fitness. That's just club fluff playing the game to keep his name up there for a future sale. He's done here. Don't think you could read the situation any other way.

But regardless, Sakho himself is massively behind anyone else right now and is playing catch-up. You really can't understate how important a full pre-season is and even though players are athletes in far better all year round shape today than they every where, 4 months of nothing is a big gap for anyone. Not least someone that often takes longer to get fully back into things. Even on a hypothetical you got him upto a good stage of physical fitness and dropped him in say 2 months down the line, you're still looking a ways after that until he'd be fully at everyone elses level who'd gone through pre-season and been playing the PL.

That's where we're differing.

Fitness isn't absolute, otherwise players wouldnt come back from injury mid season and be as good as those who havent been injured.

I'd bet money he'd be regularly playing by end october latest if any club was serious about him getting him playing.

Well, hopefully for everyones sake he goes somewhere and plays as soon as possible.

Stoke surprises me. I get the drop, but they've really improved under Hughes. And you're not a million miles away from L'pool. Glenn Johnson has never moved, mainly down to his kids being settled in school here, and switches between Stoke and L'pool for example.

That one would of seemed ideal to me but everyones different.

Off to see ex Liverpool player (and lifelong fan) Robbie Keane in his last match for Ireland.
Few pints and a burger, then the Aviva.

We are playing Oman, so He should score a farewell goal (or two).

Liverpool sell Luis Alberto to Lazio for £4.7m, with 30% sell-on clause #LFC #DeadlineDay http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/08/31/liverpool-transfer-deadline-day-live-balotelli-in-france-to-comp/ …

Another great deal to off load Luis Alberto. £4.3 mill. down, plus a further £1.7 million if Lazio qualify for Europe. With a 30% sell-on for added measure. Considering we paid £6.8 million three years ago to Barcelona and he's played a grand total of 12 games for the club, to (hopefully) recoup almost all of it after that depreciation is fantastic.

Would imagine he'll flourish in Italy too. He certainly has the technical ability. Just not physical or big enough to cope the PL. The slower pace, less physical nature of Serie A should suit his skill set great. Certainly be rooting for Lazio to make Europe now this year for that extra £1.7 million haha.

So I make that 12 departures this window for a gross total of £ 72.8 million. With a possible further £13.7 million in add-ons.

Leaving a net profit of £10.9 million on all transfers.

Now to FINALLY rid ourselves of Mario:

Indications from France that Mario Balotelli has completed his medical check with Nice. Talks continuing with #LFC

Sticking point: terms of the deal (personal + club to club). #LFC want rid of the striker + no financial obligation. Nice want minimum risk

It will never happen, but seeing as we have actually made a profit this window, I would love to see us splash on a 'star' next summer... Be a big help if we qualify for the CL, but even if we don't. Pay the wages, pay the fee.

Enough dreaming for one day, though.

Wonder how much Mane would fetch on the open market next summer? ****, wonder how much more he'd fetch now?

We signed a 'star' and didn't even realise it.

Let's not go overboard just yet... Mane is very much known for having spells, but so far so good.
