I'd say he is more than occaisonally dogmatic, when you consider he has been trying to put Gerrard at the heart of a possession based 4-3-3.

It isn't great. Managers need to be adaptive, to realise when their approach isn't working and change it up. Rodgers' possession football is good to watch and it is very effective the majority of the time, but when the opposition set out in a way that neutralises it effectively there MUST be a plan b. Rodgers, much like Guardiola's Barca, has no plan b, and he paid the price. As a side note, it's the reason why I'm so pleased we have Lambert as a manager: he's so amazingly adaptive. Though he can't play possession football like Rodgers can set a team up to do, he can mix and vary his styles effectively.

Haha. Been trying to wind you up if you haven't noticed mate. We truly got benteke'd. We actually didn't play too bad, but same old story about not having a clinical striker, or anyone that can even finish for that matter.

I still think we should stick Stevie up there. He normally finishes his one on ones off no problem.

Of course, I've been doing the same. ;)

Liverpool played well actually, but it was just a case of playing well, but right into the opposition's hands. It wasn't even a case of not having a clinical striker, there were just too few good chances for you to take. Each Villa defender individually had magnificent games (again, they've been great recently) but there was such a lack of both width and verticality in your style they weren't forced out of place too much.

Gerrard as a striker? It'd be a rare case of a player moving UP the pitch as he aged rather than down. Might be something to try as an unorthodox switch in a match, but that's just it. It'd be unorthodox, and I don't see Rodgers actually being inventive enough to try it.

Suppose we'll let GC have his little digs, Villa have had less to shout about than LFC this season, which is hard to do

Hahaha. I've just been wanting to see how long I could go doing nothing but trolling before Mike. pulled his finger out. I got to three straight days before he infracted me. ;)

Though I'd argue we've actually been doing pretty well this season by our standards. Youth coming through, squad finding their feet, new signings looking effective, manager who seems to have some serious chops, we're above where we finished last season already and crucially an absolutely deadly strike partnership up front. There's plenty to be pleased about as a Villa fan recently, but hey; this ain't the thread!

I agree, got a good young team coming through, and with someone like Benteke up front, on his day he can change games on his own!

Certainly, and he and Weimann are lethal TOGETHER rather than just two good players.

On that note, who does everyone want to see Liverpool go after this winter in regards to a new striker? KJ Huntelaar will likely be linked, but I also heard Bafetimbi Gomis was linked. I like Gomis a lot, he's a good all-round forward, and he seems like he'd fit the Prem perfectly, but he's also been linked with Chelsea. Somehow I don't think he'd fit in well there though, they'd want a proper star name like Falcao, so Gomis might be a good option for Liverpool.

Yeah heard also about Gomis. Lyon need to sell cos they are in some kind of financial problems so price might also be low. Other who looks to be leaving France is Loic Remy who could also be good buy.

We want someone who can finish :P

Yeah I did see his links with Chelsea although it was pointed out that Lyon have far much more to gain by keeping him and getting into the CL next season rather than sell him in January for a modest fee.

Which can also be said about Falcao and At Madrid...

Gomis would be a nice signing, not a huge amount of forwards out there available and I don't see us putting up the money for someone too expensive. Gameiro could be worth going for, Ibra has taken over his role at PSV and they'll be aiming to spend big on more huge players.

Would like to see us sign someone like Herrera too. If Rodgers wants to play possession football he'd be a nice signing to make. With Bilbao leaking top players at the moment he may want to move.

I expect Isco to move clubs soon, Malaga are in the **** and need to sell players.(not saying we will make a move for him before someone calls me crazy)

Basically, Lyon became a big team by gaming the transfer system with specialising in imports from South America. This let them dominate Ligue 1. Unfortunately, they counteracted this cleverness with basing their finances on winning or coming close to winning the league every time. As they faltered in the league due to everyone else getting better, this financial plan... has a few flaws. So, they're at a good time for a raid.

Forgot about Gameiro. Don't know if he'd be willing to leave PSG, but he'd be worth a punt.

Herrera's a good shout actually, Liverpool could really do with a Spanish-style playmaker to control their play. The trio of Mata, Cazorla and Silva has proved how effective Spanish trequartistas can be in the Prem. If Liverpool can pick one up for a decent price, it'd be a great investment.

Aye, you're right to be pessimistic on that. He's got the world at his feet (and a friend of mine for a cousin, which is cool) and he'll likely move to a giant somewhere.

Schalke are doing their customary collapse so now is a good time for talking to Huntelaar

Ander Herrera is someone i always sign on FM for LFC...

very good player, him and Oscar de Marcos

if we can get someone like Herrera and then a proven goalscorer.. Perfect situation Huntelaar id be very happy.

As much as id love Isco, like GC said, he has the world at his feet, brilliant talent, full expect him to move to one of the top 5 clubs in the world

It all went down the ******* after they wasted over 20m on Gourcuff on massive wages and a long-term contract. At the moment he was supposed to be a grand signing that would take Lyon to new heights in Europe, instead he took them to new lows in their bank account.

Someone you could look into signing, even if it's a bit of a gamble, is Beñat from Betis. He seems to be the loyal type so he may be reluctant to go, but aside from that he shouldn't be too expensive, and he's quite the player. Good passes, great vision, a decent shot and good set pieces. Not too old, either.

Now that is what I love about football off the pitch

if i remember rightly though he is more the deep lying playmaker type..

with Allen, Lucas, Sahin all doing that role in slightly different ways, think we need a more adventurous player like Herrera or of the mould of Silva/Mata/Cazorla

its a shame knowing we were linked with Mata for such a long time we didnt act on it!

At the time when we had Masch-Alonso-Gerrard-Torres ... Mata threw in would have been scary! but we wasted a really good team. ( or the cowboy yanks messed us up )

He is indeed a more deep-lying player, although he has no problems getting forward to support attacks. You could say he shares some of his skillset with Sahin, but you won't be keeping him for long, and he's quite different from both Lucas and Allen.

Maybe this is why no gay footballers will come out, maybe they will get fined if they do.

I don't understand why Suso got fined for calling somebody 'gay'?.. The FA make me laugh.. Rather than actually doing any real work they just go around fining people for what they post on social media sites!
