Klopp unconcerned by Liverpool FC rivals' spending power - Liverpool Echo

Jurgen Klopp says the spending power of Liverpool’s Premier League rivals doesn’t bother him as he insisted: “I want to do it differently" ..... “If you bring one player in for £100million or whatever and he gets injured then it all goes through the chimney,” Klopp said.

Its pretty easy to say you are bucking the trend when you don't have money to spend in the first place. Managers spout the same old platitudes of 'building a football club' but give them £100m and all that goes out of the window. Boring.

They spent more on Mane than we did on Miki, and having missed on Zielinksi, will pay more to get their alternate option in Wijnaldum.

Pep might spend a fair bit too, but there is no doubt both Manchester Clubs will be better off player wise than when they arrived.

Both clubs already had most of what they need, the key holes are just being filled. Worth noting that every target both Manchester clubs have gone for were noted as weak positions last season.

It's almost like they too, are building clubs.

Couldn't agree more. If Klopp had money to spend, he would. Nothing wrong with it either. Many ways of 'building' a football club.

Klopp is shrewd, he knows what to say and when to say it, he knows what type of player he needs to aim at: young hungry and looking to improve, because Liverpool can't complete at the elite money table. And they want to, hence the improvements at Anfield to increase revenue.
 
People really have no concept of just how this this manager works, has always worked, and what drives him do they outside of a general view of today's game and why they're conditioned to believe should be the way?

That's why he's the perfect utility man. Covers most every position without complaint and will do a competent job doing it.

Still hopeful we'll sign a LB, either to start or push/ back-up Moreno. But if the right player for the long term isn't there in either role, Klopp's shown he'll make do rather than buy someone for the sake of it that we probably wouldn't want a year down the line. With the at some point returning Joe Gomez able to cover both FB slots, and Flanagan the long term back-up option who hopefully will be back to pushing to start a year down the line, the need to spend on cover is lessoned. Milner's not ideal, but he'll do a competent, emergency job if needed.

Klopp has worked that way so far because he has been forced to as both Dortmund and Liverpool could never compete at the top of the elite in terms of financial firepower. Of course what you say may be true. He may very well be a manager who chooses to build from the bottom even if he did have money to spend. But until we see evidence of that, its premature to credit him as such. Its akin to praising a poor man for not spending exorbirantly on a Versace dress. Makes no sense as both are just making the best of their current circumstances.

And as Mike pointed out above, he has certainly maximised what he had to spend on players like Mane and Wijnaldaum who hardly came cheap. Which already indicates that if he had more money, he is open to spending it on proper top players. Unless of course you are telling me he had financial power on par with United and chose to only buy Mane and Wijnaldaum which is obviously bs.
 
Mike ironically completely refuted your point genius, as much as he was trying to make another, about not having money with Zielinski/ Wynaldum which you agreed with.

He wanted Zielinski as he was younger and he trusts his coaching ability to mould and improve players. He had a value on him. It wasn't something he was 'forced' into. HE wanted him for HIS price. But Udinese thought otherwise and dicked us around. So we moved on to Wynaldum. Someone else he's been tracking for years. But who's 5 years and a heck of a lot more experience/ goals/ assists better. And as such he valued him higher. As soon as he switched targets, the money was there and it was boxed off quick. Like the money's been there all summer if he wanted to spend more on fees or wages. But he doesn't. Not because he's 'forcesd to' by a lack of finances. Because he WANTS to. It's what he likes best. COACHING players into better players. He's said on numerous occasions one of the biggest thrills he gets on game day is beating teams that are perceived better than his. Teams that cost a lot more to assemble with 'perceived' better/ more ready players.

EVERY player Klopps signed thus far, Klopp WANTED. He may well of had Gotze first in line before Mane. But as soon as we ditched that, he moved onto Mane. A player he WANTED and had tracked for the last 4 years. And the extra £10 million or so between the two was instantly there. Funny pattern here huh? If he wanted to go spend £40/ 50 plus million, he'd be backed. FSG, for all their faults, are ALL in on this manager. They've just committed £50 million or so in guaranteed salary the next 6 years to him and his two assistants. You think they'd do that and NOT fully back him? You think HE'D sign up for that if he WASN'T happy he had their FULL backing to do whatever he needed?

But hey, continue to delude yourself that what he truly needs/ wants are big money names and he's only working within the parameters above him. No matter what he says, no matter what the club does, no matter what anyone explains to you; you have a perceived idea so continue on at your leisure.

We'll happily continue on with one of the best coaches in the World doing it his way, by his CHOICE, and let him do what he's done everywhere else. Build a club from top to bottom and leave it in a **** of a lot better state when than the one he arrived at after another long term project in his career.
