The Manchester United Thread

Marcel Bout appointed Chief Scout at Manchester United according to Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad and MEN.

Was part of LVG's staff for years at Bayern, AZ and Ajax.

Was the only staff member that stayed after LVG was fired and they were apparently really impressed by him.

Also says he will be chief scout at all levels. And was key in bringing in Chong and Burkart. And says we've hired over 50 new scouts worldwide since Nicky **** and the new staff have started.

Thomas Bormann who used to be at Hoffenheim, Jorge Alvial who was at Chelsea, Roy Beukenkamp who was at PSV, Sandro Orlandelli who was with the Brazilian FA, Joao Ferreira who was at Sporting Lisbon and Orlando City, Armand Benneker who was at St. Gallen and others have all been brought in along with a load of youth scouts. Marcel Bout has also been kept on, according to this article we've brought in around 50 scouts. http://www.destentor.nl/algemeen/sp...t-chief-scout-bij-manchester-united-1.6496553

..... Many have seen the Chelsea model for loan money against FFP. Its a tidy albeit useful loophole nowadays. Get the loan club to pay 100% of the wage and get a monthly sum on your books. Its a beautiful yet money driven game.. :)

Where that method falls down, is when there's no visible path to the first team. Parents and kids will start to look elsewhere. There's a couple of cracking kids for one at L'pool who switched from Chelsea partly for that reason.

There needs to be that pathway to at least have the chance to come through at your club, with the better youth getting game time. Or at the least at the end of it you need to be selling on to at the least Championship level clubs (in the main. Some kids will still be below that standard of course but you want the bulk going no lower than that) for these kids and their parents to able see you have good coaching and a good system of development in place that will start them off at a good level in their careers.

You don't have that and you'll end up losing out to other clubs that do.

Each to their own but hoarding kids and loaning them out for financial purposes, rather than with any set plan of development and a good level of increased, competitive competition at a higher level; is not my idea of youth development at all.

Exactly. Chelsea idea of how to run a youth development academy is terrible. It's a reason a few of there youngster are leaving and talented ones at that. Last year was out of the norm for us as to how many players came through to earn debuts, not that any disappointed! But players know at our academy that they will get good education on and off the pitch and there is always a chance of progressing into the first team if your good enough. If not they no they will have had a good development and will be sold to have a good career either at Prem/ Championship or Europe level. It's scary how many ex Utd academy players are around at a good level.

Some rumors that City chief youth scout David Harrison could be made United's head of academy recruitment, to work along side Bout but solely on the youth side.

From JB on redcafe he's heard from people close to youth set up.

Ahhhh, Alphonso Davies. The new 'Freddy Adu' who 'claims' to be 15 but looks and has the body of a 25 year old. (Funny how ages get lost along with papers in Africa.).

That's another major club 'supposedly' interested. His agent is working hard.

Less of the stereotypes please. Connor Wickham didn't have the body of the average 15 year old when he was that age, but I don't remember people making any allegations against him :S. Alphonso looks like a teenager in the face, and while he does have a fair amount of muscle he's still quite wiry, so I don't think he looks like a grown man. Lukaku was much bigger than him when he was 15 too.

Courtois, Andreas Christensen and Zouma are all still owned by Chelsea and first team standard. Imagine if Mourinho wasn't stupid enough to sell De Bruyne and Lukaku. They would have a new spine. You may not like their youth recruitment methods but they work. They get big fat wages, world-class academy facilities and the opportunity to go on loan to get first team experience. Bad loan spell? Join a Championship or lower Prem/La Liga/Bundesliga team.

You could ask yourself if it is good for the player though to be going on loan-spells (to a foreign country) at a young age. Especially until your 20th I won't think people are mature enough to adapt to new environments. Especially since everything else in the youth set-up is built to get the best out of players and even 3-year plans are being made, it is weird that youth players are so easily exported to different leagues every year. Especially if you think about how many teenagers actually have a first team spot in the top 5 in the BPL I don't think it is good for a youth player to be at a big club starting from your 18th. They could much better settle somewhere at a club where they get used to the environment and have first team potential and get a feeling they belong to the club. What the top clubs then could do is add some buy-back-clauses ofcourse if the youth players develop in to a star.

I didnt say youth recruitment I said development. Anyways I'm sure all those mentioned where bought for biggish fees to go into the first team squad. Not to go into the academy and develop through the different age groups.

Related aside- I've started to watch quite a lot of Gladbach when I can this season for Dahoud. FWIW, Christensen has been real poor every time I've seen him this year. Now, that's a small sample size of 4 or 5 games to date. And I'm not in anyway suggesting he's a bad player.

But on this season's evidence, he has a long ways to go to be a regular in the PL. He wouldn't be anywhere near Chelsea's first team on this years showing right now.

Utd continue to remain SO out of touch with their match going fans it beggars belief. L'pool's ticketing shambles at times is bad enough but they have NOTHING on the dipshits running the show at yours:

Absolute nonsensical disgrace.

And people think following L'pool or Utd is 'easy.'

Let's ignore the context for the time being. If he's a loyal supporter, he would read the rules regarding the away tickets that was changed at the start of the season. Which the article even points out. So that's sort of his own fault really.

Now for context. The guy tweeted more after the initial tweets about this and apparently was already flagged by the club for touting away tickets. So when he doesn't pick up his ticket himself, its going to be a big dodgy.

So not as bad as you may think.

Have you just seriously tired to defend Utd over this regardless? Can't go along with that in any shape or form.

Your whole ticketing operation is an absolute shambles. From the amount of tickets they openly give to sponsors/ exec holders (I personally know a few long standing Utd lads who can only get away tickets passed on to them through exec holders not arsed about their tickets. And they aren't alone in having to scramble around like that for tickets), through the B/S need for a certain percentage to pick up tickets at aways, now in England and not just Euro aways which is a massive inconvenience to be kind in itself on foreign soil (picking tickets up in L'pool a week Monday will be a barrel of laughs for those put out to do so), through forcing supporters to buy cup tickets in with their seasonie regardless or lose it, to an instance like this.

There's absolutely no defence for Utd's complete disregard to loyal supporters on the ticketing issue that has been beyond bad for a good number of years now and is getting worse. And you'll struggle to find many that do travel all over not slamming the club for the **** poor operation they run.

And no excuse for the arrogance of treating one of those fans in this way. The even sadder and more annoying fact to any football fan, regardless of who you support, is he's not the first to suffer in this way from Utd.

Wasn't really defending them. Was just pointing out that there's more to it then just "I was ill so I couldn't go to the game now im banned from away matches for a year"

Thank you.

I don't see how this doesn't reflect terribly on the club. But thank you for the clarification regardless.

With Valencia having a good night when netting for Ecuador in their 3-0 win last night against Chile, there are some other United & soon to be United men lining up for their countries tonight; Pogba & Griezmann line up for France with Martial likely to feature, Fellaini starts for Belgium and Blind starts for Holland.

Will be tuned into the France game personally, enjoy which ever game you lot choose to view.

dream on if you think we are geting griezman

Why would you want to go drop what would be another ridiculous Pogba-esq fee anyway when you have Martial and Rashford?

Another massive name to stand in either of their way of playing up front. It's getting with the fans and Woodward like it was the '80's and people just wanting the next big name for the next massive fee. Just throwing money chasing trying to get the title back. When you've two quality young forwards already on the books.

I was out to catch either an Arsenal or Liverpool fan with that post, didn't think a United fan would take the bait. Proceed ;)

But out of curiousity, why "dream on"?
