The Manchester United Thread

Manchester United are pushing for a new stadium as the centrepiece of a wider regeneration project that is expected to generate £7.3bn a year for the UK economy and create around 90K jobs nationally. Discussions are underway to assess available land.

Awww man. Knocked me has that. 😢

Just like when another part of Utd's great triumvirate, Sir Bobby Charlton, passed a year or so back, I am genuinely proper saddened by this news this evening. Top, TOP footballer and an even better human being. As I can personally attest to .....

Many moons ago, we had a Monday night game at Southampton. I was the only one from our little crew who stayed over. So a leisurely train ride back from London the following day to Piccadilly before the hopper home. So I'm walking a pretty quiet train mid-morning, and as I'm going through first class seeing if there's any scran I could nick, haha, there's the great man sat there. I said Hi, gushing that even amongst the rivalry between us and them, how Denis was one of my Dad's all time favourite players. And he offers me to sit down ..... The next few hours back to Manny flew by as he recalled story after story. Many of his time at Huddersfield under Shanks. Even telling the guard who tried to move me on out of first class back to my seat that 'I was with him.' The only thing he wouldn't be drawn on was his back healer that sent Utd down in '74 haha. An absolute gentlemen and an experience I'll never forget.

Propper sad day for football this.

All genuine Liverpudlians send our sincerest condolences for an all time football LEGEND to his friends, family, and everyone in Manchester and beyond touched by his sad passing.

God rest The Law Man. 🙏🏻❤️

Full-time: Manchester United 5-2 Preston North End.

The Reds progress to the next round of the FA Youth Cup thanks to goals from J. Fletcher, Munro, Chido Obi (x2) and Ibragimov.

United breezed through the first half scoring four early doors but Preston fought back in the second half and clawed back two of their own

Mainoo offers nothing in these games hopefully Eriksen comes on again. We are also desperate for WBs!
Would you sell him and Garnacho to have funds to spend this summer? Mainoo has regressed heavily for me this season, feels like he's put on too much muscle mass or maybe that's just his body type but every time I watch him it's like his lumbering across the pitch.

Yes.
I'll only be happy with a control - alt - delete for this bunch. No point patching the team up.
They are s.hite.
Not up to PL standards at all.

I would sell Garnacho for the simple fact he seems to have issues up top on and off the pitch and doesn’t suit the system at all. I would keep Mainoo he’s a top player but he’s young and having a bad season after a good one. I think that’s aloud. Plus he’s had a couple of injuries. Funds won’t be an issue for the summer.

Hargreaves spitting facts! Then to top it off Ashworth decided he should get another season after how last seasons league form was 🤦🏻‍♂️

Owen Hargreaves:

"It goes back to recruitment... Ten Hag spent £620m, and there's not many of those players that would start for another top side.

"Brighton have SIX players in that starting XI that would start for Man Utd. That should never happen."

European Football is not going to happen next season (unless some miracle occurs in the two cup competitions) which dare I say will actually be a good thing there is no God given right for the club to play the best in Europe the players don't deserve it.

There needs to be some sort of reset but to be fair it ain't going to happen until someone gets rid of the ego lead player culture. The Glazer boys have created this situation with their policy of signing 'big' names, signing players who don't deserve them on to new contracts to 'protect transfer value',selecting managers who are either to egoastic or clearly not strong enough mentally to solve the issue and most importantly using the club as a cash cow.

It will be interesting to see how long they hang round if the source of thier income dries up which will be the case if the current situation continues, PSR has brought into focus the real state of affairs, Sir Jim is trying to put the club back on a more sensible footing but I doubt even he realised the true situation until it was too late.

Sir Jim who has not only done the exact same and added to the issues. But who has created a massive division and disconnect between the supporters? Bringing around booing rarely heard at Utd. Sir Jim who kept the Glazers in place to start with for his own vanity project?

That Sir Jim?

Agree @woolly mate 👍🏼 blaming SJR for the booing at OT is laughable also. Ive been at OT many times over the years and there’s always been pockets of booing even large parts of the crowd booing. But it’s definitely gotten worse nothing to do with SJR.

Fans have just genuinely gotten fed up with a team full of players that simply are not good enough or can’t be arsed.

Whatever fans/people think of the way SJR is doing things rightly or wrongly. Least he’s trying to get things done investing into the club. Only time will tell if it works or not.

So far he’s done stuff we don’t agree with but it’s most probably necessary all the little horrible cuts will likely end up making a big difference in the long run to the overall running of the club. But at the same time he’s done/doing a fair bit of good also.

Yes there will be mistakes along the way I’m sure, nothings a sure thing in football/ sports he just needs to learn keep them to a minimal and rectify them asap.
