I think that they should make Scottish football like the Spanish league and let the reserve teams of the biggest clubs play in the lower leagues. It'd boost attendances and give the youngsters a bit more competitive footy.

That's a really good idea actually. Scottish football has so much potential it just needs more investment, but with a population of 5,000,000 this standard of football is actually amazing.

They were talking about puting Celtic and Rangers Reserves or U19s in the Third Division.
Yeh i heard that, but the clubs trying to gain entry to 3rd division were opposed to it as well as the current clubs, same situation as EPL,no-one wants to give up their places?

Thats nearly the stupidest statement i've heard on these forums! I sincerley hope you're at the wind up?
The old firm may not be bigger than some of the teams down south but we're a lot bigger than you're precious 'Boro!
If you actually read some of the responses from us Scottish football fans on previous pages we DON'T want to ******' join the EPL even though we would bring more revenue to away grounds than most EPL teams!
What a ****!

totaly agree

As a Celtic fan i think moving into the epl is a bad idea, even though it is probably the best league in the world, and too those who think we wouldnt handle it are talking codshit, both celtic and rangers give you english teams a good going over in europe(look at the stats before arguing back). Only team to play us off the park was arsenal this season and it took two freak goals and a pen to help.
In any case it would ruin the scottish game look at wales with no disrespect they are not that far from our nation but none of there players play in there domestic league and thats what would happen to us.
We need to look into youth systems both old firm spend £££ms into this and outcomes been poor.money doesnt produce real talent it just buys it.
STAY PUT AND DEAL WITH THE BAD TIMES I SAY.

Hmmm,it seems a lot more people are starting to warm to the idea now,Davie Moyes has spoken out in favour of it(although that could be to fulfill his lifetime ambition of managing Celtic his boyhood heroes?) and Phil Gartside is not giving up his EPL leagues 1&2?

I'm getting a little bit worried now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Celtic and Rangers are about as big as plymoth they both have no money and no future they should rot in the SPL

just thought i would say you **** that hearts are bigger than your rubbish little bourgh!

Just heard the news that Gartside's proposal's been knocked back! The head of the EPL has said they will never be invited to join!
I dunno bout anyone else but i'm delighted! I really didn't want to go,we'd be killing the Scottish game and sacrificing European football against truly great sides,i'd rather see topteams from Spain,Italy and Germany, rather than Bottomfeeders from the EPL! The only downside for me is the fianancial aspect but thats our problem and we need to fix that by ourselves!

Good to hear that they aren't coming here and ruining the league (Personal opinion).

i beleive that celtic and rangers should stay in their own leauge and it is uo to the other scottish clubs and the scottish FA to make their leuage's more competetive and as regards to the welsh clubs they should play in their own leauge too for the same reasons i stated for rangers and celtic.... i mean dont get me wrong it would be nice to see celtic and rangers in the prem but i would not be fair on those who have tried to get there only for rangers and celtic to be added and also if they were they the teams in the prem would have to play another 2 games and prem mangers complain there they would need a winter break because of fatiuge to the players.... sorry if that dont make much sense

im a celtic fan born and bred and my dad is english along with half of my family although im scottish i can safely say that celtic and rangers joining the premiership would have no benefit to celtic supporters or rangers supporters can u see celtic or rangers making europeon football at all in the premiership even teams like hull city and so forth are a match for celtic and rangers scottish football is falling apart year after year the lack of funds and sponsorships is ridiculous why do u think owners with money would rather buy portsmouth than buy celtic cause ur gaurenteed more money back celtic and rangers should stay where they belong but i reckon the scottish league should be moved to 20 teams i mean look at chelsea they have like a 38 , 000 attendance celtic and rangers double that almost yet chelsea are loaded and celtic are not as my answer goes this celtic rangers in england will never happen and should never happen celtic in premiership where does it end
barcelona in the conference real madrid in the highlands league u move 2 teams to another country ur destroying the whole point in football

The argument that it is the English Premier league is redundant because Swansea and Cardiff could be playing in it [potentially] in the future. I think that the Old Firm would doubtless improve the entertainment in the Premier League. Everyone would want to beat them for a start. How could anyone argue that teams will not want to travel to Scotland when players of the calibre of Paulo Maldini [among many others] have described Celtic Park as a special place to play on countless occasions, is also worth considering. Financially, they would definitely benefit; the TV money combined with large fanbase [and don't forget that Celtic are the third best supported club in Britain according to average attendance figures] would more than make up for lost European earnings. If they could survive 5 seasons in the EPL, they would be competing for big names.
But thats the question. I seriously doubt that Celtic and Rangers in their current state could get out of the Championship [arguably one of the most competitive leagues in Europe] on first attempt. Also, i can't see any team in England going for it.

rangers and celtic would easly gain promotion from championship newcastle are destroying it atm

but i do think the old firm need to stay in scotland :P

i'd hate to see Celtic and Gers in an English League. A British League would be satisfactory, and have the top flight dominated by the best teams from all the countries, then have the rest playing in Scottish 1st Div, English 1st Div etc, but have play-offs between all the first divisions for places in the top flight. Would ensure the best possible British teams would play in the top flight whilst each country would have its own leagues.

Its not going to happen. And Im glad we are staying where we are.
Yep! Thank f**k we're staying where we are,i couldn't bear the thought of getting pumped every week by the likes of Hull,Stoke,Portsmouth and Wolves!
The English would have a ****** field day! They'd be intolerable!
We're better off staying in our little backwater nation on our own against Hearts,Hibs and Motherwell!
Rangers and Celtic have nothing to prove to anyone!

rangers and celtic wouldnt get out the championship to get in the premier for a start!! mr boughera is there 'star' player, he's a reject, barry ferguson couldnt kick a ball at blackburn, or maloney at villa, petrov eventually looks alright but not a star by any means, big fish small pond. they deserve nothing and should be ashamed for trying to leave the league. rangers away fans are a disgrace at the best of times.

Like most other away sections throughout britain but we seem to get the worst press due to our sectarian and racist element!
I'm under no illusions that we are no angels but take a look at other teams before commenting on Rangers please!!!!

Wouldn't get out of the championship? We've had one **** season in Europe (the both of us), yet i reckon we'd be about mid-table. You don't need to go so far back in time to find Celtic beating Man U at Celtic Park or Rangers playing in the Euro Cup final.

Great thread, some interesting views!!!

I heard something about a year ago,

An EPL manager(Harry Redknapp? - not too sure tho), like 10-15years ago was responding to speculation about the Old Firm going to Endland, and he suggested that Rangers and Celtic pay like £300million each - basically to reimburse all the club that would be put out of pocket due to the switch. Obviously that could never happen now - £300M(I WISH) but I'm sure this is true, Basically they were open to the idea back then but wanted some major payment to let it happen.

Anyways, all you Scottish dudes out there who are ****** off with the state of Scottish football, check my story
