You guys are way off. No idea where youre getting that number. Show me a link or a source. Celtic merchandise sales are probably right up there worldwide, but that has a lot to do with Scottish and Irish pride, as well as the iconic nature of their logo.

In 2005 a report gave the fanbase of Arsenal as 27 million, which is the third largest in the world.

How many Arsenal fans are there worldwide?

Answer

Q: Which club has more support worldwide: Celtic or Rangers?

A: Research by Capita in 2002/03 put Celtic's worldwide fanbase at 9 million, and this was before Nakamura and Mizuno were signed and Celtic gained many more fans in the far east.

The only people who claim its anywhere near where your're claiming is Celtic FC themselves. Theyre basing it off shirt sales and an estimate of the population of Scot descent living abroad. Theyre full of it.

you realise these figures for arsenal etc are not entirely accurate? these count shirt sales obv and guys in deepest africa who pay a few pounds to watch games in cinemas etc, these guys only support the league, the balance will soon shift back to spain, or italy (most likely spain) where is was 10 years ago.

You realize the Celtic count is based on people who couldnt name a player on the team, but simply buy the shirt b/c of Irish pride, right...? Is that more legit than all the "fans" that Chelsea and Man U have in China and the far east...?

Man Utd and Liverpool have more Irish fans than we do so that must include them aswell.

Anyway any actually figures are likely estimates from shirt sales as there would be no way to accurately work out how many people support a club. Im not gonnae lie and pretend I know how popular arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool are. But I know Liverpool are a big club with a great history. I'm sure Arsenal will have a big following in France. Chelsea probably ot so much as they havent allways been as good as they are and even so many real football fans look at them as simply having tried to buy success.

But as a Celtic fan I know we have fans in many countries around the world.

However we simply arent playing well enough for now and desperately need to improve the quality of our squad.

I certainly don't mean to **** on Celtic here... I started off posting in this thread defending the Scottish League and defending how Celtic and Rangers would do in the Premeireship. I just think these claims about Celtic's popularity are a little over the top. Theyre very well supported... no one is arguing that point. If we're talking Man City or Everton or Tottenham... definitely give the edge to Celtic and Rangers. ... But Liverpool and Arsenal? I dont buy it. Those clubs have the same iconic status as Celtic...

Again, I think that second tier, Villa/Everton/Man City/Tottenham - I think that's a good model for how successful the Old Firm would be in the English League, but with occasional top 4 finishes. The Premeirship is just too tough, top to bottom, to expect any kind of consistency. So again, the big questions are 1) Why would the English FA want this...? and 2) Is the TV money gained really worth giving up the what? 30 mill teams get from reaching the group stage of the Champions League? B/c unless you are **** sure the Old Firm is regularly going to finish top 4 in England its a pretty dicey proposition whether the tv money difference is worth it. You also have to balance Europa League money against that and against the threat of a bad year ending in relegation (Its always a possibility, if a somewhat remote one). The SPL is set up in a way that basically prevents the Old Firm from ever being at risk of going down. There's no guarantees in the Premiership.

****** **** are we still talkin **** about this?
Ok i'll say it again WE need to get our own league, clubs and players in order and stop going on about the easy option,EPL,Atlantic league and any other breakaway set-up!
Like it or not the old firm ARE SCOTTISH and we have our own ****** league so lets sort that out 1st and find out why we are so bad instead of hijacking any other laegues! Its pretty clear that a lot of english fans don't want our teams or fans down there so give it a rest!

As for who's the biggest club, really? are we starting this arguement again?
Ok facts,Rangers are the most decorated football club in the world regarding league titles and cup wins, although we have never won the european cup like Celtic have so that probably counterbalances that(almost!:D) But Liverpool have won that 5 times,Man U 3 times,Forest twice in a row as well,so these things all make a very good but pointless arguement about who's bigger? personally i'd swap 10 league titles for 1 european cup cos thats the biggie, thats a chance to say you're the best in europe,so we can't lay claim to ever being biggar than a lot of the teams mentioned above(maybe forest now?)
A for fanbases Celtic are the third team in Ireland at the most behind Liverpool and Man U so there goes the everbody in Eire supports them, there is no way that the likes of Man city,Spurs,Everton etc,etc are better supported than the old firm but i think we have to be realistic when talking about the big 4? They have globalised their clubs to the extent that Asia alone brings in enough to pay their wage bills! Man U and AC Milan where the 1st clubs to open club shops in the far east and make a shitload of cash and new fans!
We need to accept that we are competing with the likes of West Ham,Ajax,Werder Bremen,Anderlecht,Lazio and Villarreal and that this is our level now! The sooner we start thinking this way the quicker we can sort ourselves out and try to get back among the big boys!

P.S. sorry if this sounds like the mad rantings of an obsessive crazy person,i just woke up with the mother of all hangovers!!!!!!

na dosen't matter mate lol

In my opinion it's fine as it is, Scotland are there own country, therefore they should have a seperate league to us. Sometimes, I even wish Cardiff and Swansea would go to the Welsh league.

Kool mate, just getting ****** off with people thinking we're bigger than what we are and wanting to move to EPL when our own leagues on its knees and needs sorted out!^^)

well, I don't know much about the SPL, so I'm not going to answer the thread's question. I believe that Rangers and Celtic have more fans worldwide, or I can say, more effective fans. The SPL fulls up stadiums and stadiums and I must admit that I love the scottish spirit in terms of football. I've to say that kevdo is right in what he says. The SPL, in comparaison with the EPL (which I admire too. I don't miss a Arsenal game) is bigger, not by capita but by taxes. It's obvious that, per capita, EPL clubs have more fans, but only because England has ten times the Scottish population.

Celtic and Rangers are about as big as plymoth they both have no money and no future they should rot in the SPL

Thats nearly the stupidest statement i've heard on these forums! I sincerley hope you're at the wind up?
The old firm may not be bigger than some of the teams down south but we're a lot bigger than you're precious 'Boro!
If you actually read some of the responses from us Scottish football fans on previous pages we DON'T want to ******' join the EPL even though we would bring more revenue to away grounds than most EPL teams!
What a ****!

I think that they should make Scottish football like the Spanish league and let the reserve teams of the biggest clubs play in the lower leagues. It'd boost attendances and give the youngsters a bit more competitive footy.

Good idea mate, that one's been kicking about for a while,it would expose our youngsters to the rigurs of 1st team football and give them experience to prepare them for the full team!

Wouldn't mind seeing this idea in place at all!^^)

They were talking about puting Celtic and Rangers Reserves or U19s in the Third Division.

Hmmm if they did join the EPL, the other Scottish teams will be well and truly ******, would Celtic and Rangers have reserve team in SPL and first team in premierleague?
