Bernard statement

Our first month in the Bundesliga has gone and firstly I would like to thank the fans, they have came out in force home and away and we couldn't do this without them. Our record so far is two wins, one draw and a loss, now looking at our fixtures I cant be anything else but happy with that performance so far. Our new players have settled in well especially David Trezeguet who I feel will be a massive signing for this club. The players who were here last year and are still in the squad have made the step up brilliantly and they deserve alot of credit for that. The whole squad is gelling and we are looking like a Bundesliga team and not a team that are just here to mak up the numbers. Again thank you to all the fans who are following this great team and lets all hope this success that we have had so far continues into the season ahead.

Board grant Bernard's wish

1860 Munich and Mainz played out a draw today as Munich dropped there first points at home this season. 1860 Munich would have been looking to win this game but it took a second half equalizer from Rakic to secure the point. Bernard told reporters after the match,

"We would like to have won this home game but a draw is better than a defeat so we will take the point. The officials had a big effect on today's game, they had an awful game and they ruined the match."

Hoffenheim 1 1860 Munich 1
(Lauth)

A draw was always on the cards in this game as both teams shut each other out throughout the match. Hoffenheim had the better of possession but they never threatened the Munich goal too much throughout the game. Both teams will be happy enough with a point but more so 1860 who were away from home.

1860 Munich 2 Hannover 1
(Trezeguet, Rakic)

A change in formation at half time saw 1860 turn the match on its head and secure there first win in four matches. The game was goaless at half time but Hannover had had the better of possession but Bernard's change helped and having Rakic and Trezeguet up front together instead of the usual just one striker ensured that 1860 won the match. Bernard told reporters,

"I felt the tactics weren't working so I changed things and thankfully it worked. I am delighted with a win that I feel we deserved."

Bayern Munich 3 1860 Munich 1

Bayern Munich won the first Munich derby of the season but it took a comeback in the last twenty minutes for Bayern to record there win. This was Bernard's first taste of the Munich derby and he wont be too disappointed after pushing Bayern all the way. Bernard spoke to reporters after the match,

"We played well but it just wasn't our day, Bayern had to much for us but we will bounce back I am sure of that. Thanks for the support from the fans they were excellent today."

1860 Munich 2 Nurnberg 1
(Trezeguet, Aigner)

1860 Munich should have won much more comfortably than they did against Nurnberg but a 2-1 gives them the three points and thats all that matters to the manager. 1860 dominated long spells of the match but they failed to take most of there chances and had to settle for the nervy win. Bernard told reporters after the match,

"If we took our chances then it would have been much more comfortable but a win is a win and it takes us one step closer to survival in this league."

Interview with Bernard

Reporter - So as you head into December your team st sixth. That's a remarkable achievement wouldn't you agree?
Bernard - We have played our hearts out since getting promotion and I am so proud of the lads. They have never let there heads get down and they are continuing to defeat the teams below them in the league.

Reporter - Your team are defeating the teams below you but what about the bigger teams you seem to be struggling against them?
Bernard - I feel our games against the bigger teams have went well. Yes we haven't won but the performances have been good considering we are in our first season here.

Reporter - Surly you couldn't have expected to be this high up the table at this stage of the season?
Bernard - To be honest no, but the players deserve it as they have played with so much heart and passion.

Reporter - And lastly will there be any new additions in the transfer window?
Bernard - I hope so but it all depends on players leaving and freeing up wages though. But the aim is to bring in a few new faces yes.

Wellington Silva had countless chances for 1860 but he couldn't take any and they were made to pay with only ten minutes left. Bernard told reporters after the match,

"We defended so well today that it was cruel to lose the way we did, but that's football and we will move on and become stronger because of this bitter defeat. The referee had a poor game also and you could say that his decisions cost us the match."

A goal right at the start of the match and a goal at the end was not enough for second division Karlsruhe as 1860 Munich booked there place in the quarter finals for the first time under manager Gary Bernard. 1860 only reached the third round last season so this progression to the quarters shows the progress Bernard's side have made over the last season. Bernard spoke to reporters after the match,

"What a good win for us. We are in the quarter finals and I feel we have a real chance to go all the way, why not?"
