Giacomo Galli's Round up

I can't complain about how the off season has gone we have got rid of a number of back up players and replaced them with players better suited to this level of football. All the key players in the promotion drive have been given part time contracts as a reward and to ensure that they stay. All of the youth players released by clubs in the Serie A and B were given an opportunity to go on trial at the club and while some turned it down and some weren't good enough I feel that some good players were gained from it.

Personally I am continuing to develop myself and in a year will hopefully have a Continental A license. The board have been more than happy to help me grow as a manager along with my assistant who recently passed a course of his own.

As a result of our promotion we also got a new sponsorship deal worth 3 times the old one that will help us cover the cost of paying players.

Crucially the club is in a good financial state and as a result I was given 300 grand to spend in wages for the year which seems reasonable enough to me. Some players who I'm not sure of will be given a pay when you play deal to reduce the risk that we are taking with them to keep the club financially viable.​

Our New League and it's rules

The new league contains some bigger teams including Chieti who's stadium we won in to stay up i the first year and the team used for much of the Serie B year. The bottom two teams are relegated back to the Eccellenza and the four above them go into a playoff. What will make it harder when we are in a promotion run is that only the top team gets promoted. This makes promotion incredibly hard to achieve.

The age rules have been relaxed from last year as we only need one U-18 instead of two. I still think that the one U-20 player rule is the most useless thing as you can't break it without breaking other rules so it is pointless​

Pre Season and first game

Just a quick overview of pre season and our first game in the Serie D cup.

A decent pre season the highlights being the draw with Serie B side Ascoli and the hammering of Casoli. The loss to Renato Curi Angolana being the low point.

We've been predicted to finish second from bottom which shocks me as I was sure it would be last. But, the prediction has us being automatically relegated so we will have to improve on it for the season to be a success.

San Donato Tavarnelle will be our opponents in the cup and they are predicted to finish 13th in a different group of the Serie D so as we are also away it could be a good indicator of the rest of the season.

So I was slightly drunk when I payed this and instead of the planned 4-5-1 defensive I went 4-4-2 overload but, it delivered the win. Vuthaj put us behind after 6 minutes Capecchi whipped in a free kick and Vuthaj stretched a foot out to direct it past the keeper. Monteforte levelled the scoring after 15 minutes Konan had his shot blocked and it fell to Silvestri he passed to Terriaca who's shot was saved by the keeper but, Monteforte slammed in the rebound. We were ahead after 20 minutes a poor touch by one centre back bounced off the other and played in De Chirico and from 18 yards out he fired a shot past the keeper and in. Our lead only lasted for 10 minutes though Bini crossed in and Lumachi guided a header into the far corner leaving the keeper rooted to the spot. Cerrai smashed in a thirty yard effort just before half time to force us to go into it behind. Capuano got us level after 57 minutes Terriaca whipped in a free kick and Capuano rose highest to head in past the keeper. De Chirico got the winner after 80 minutes Terriaca slipped him in and De Chirico poked the ball past the keeper and in to send us into the first round.

Another good win for us as 16 year old De Chirico grabbed his second brace in a row to fire us into the next round. Chirieletti put us behind just before half time arriving at the back post to fire past Kastrati and give them an undeserved win. Capuano after not scoring at all last season grabbed his second in two games. A corner was hit in the ball bounced around and Rakovic smacked a half volley off of the bar the rebound bounced off a centre back and it fell to Capuano and he fired into and empty goal from 2 yard out. De Chirico got us ahead after 81 minutes Terriaca passed to him just inside the box and he curled an effort around the centre back and goalkeeper to score. Seconds later De Chirico had us two goals ahead a poor pass from one centre back to another was intercepted by De Chirico and he was in on goal his first effort was saved but, he smacked in the rebound to put us into the next round.

September Update

The first month has seen lots of goals fly in at both ends and we show enough about us as to where I don't think automatic relegation is something that will happen.

We start the season out well with a convincing win over Cynthia. Terriaca got us ahead after 3 minutes Rakovic crossed in and on the half volley Terriaca powered it in past the keeper. Rakovic got us two goals ahead after 68 minutes Silvestri played him in and Rakovic's effort was just out of the reach of the keeper. De Chirico scored with not long left to ensure victory some great one touch football in the box saw Cardile pass to De Chirico and he fired a one touch finish past the keeper.

A hammering sees us leave the cup. Donzelli got us behind after 10 minutes volleying in a Cardino cross. De Chirico levelled for us after 27 minutes Monteforte slipped him in and he poked an effort in between the keepers legs. We were back behind after 37 minutes Donzelli's header was poor but, still got in past Kastrati in goal. Ramadan got us behind after 64 minutes a nice header into the top corner and then four minutes later smashed a shot past Kastrati when he was in on goal.

"It was a more even game than the scoreline showed and we performed well above expectations in the cup so I am proud of how well we have done in it but, not so much this performance." Giacomo Galli

View attachment 179857A poor performance where we only had 1 shot on target. We were behind after 6 minutes Di Curzio poked in a corner at the near post to put us behind. Rieti doubled their lead after a cross was taken down and passed to Murga and he fired past Kastrati and in. De Chirico got us in with a chance after 64 minutes Monteforte played him in and his low shot was past the keeper before he could get down to it. Both sides had one great chance Monteforte hit the bar with a close range header and Kastrati made a big penalty save to help keep us in with a chance after 80 minutes.

Terriaca got us ahead after 5 minutes Capuano got to the by-line and then crossed to just out of reach of the diving keeper and Terriaca had a simple tap in at the back post. Molfesi scored an equaliser after 66 minutes it was a long ball and a flick on that played him in and he fired past Kastrati and in. Monteforte got us back ahead after 68 minutes a clearance hit off a defender and landed at Monteforte's feet with only the keeper to beat and he fired it past him and in. Two minutes later Vincenzo Capuano got us two goals ahead Capuano fired a high finish in over the goalkeeper's head with a powerful shot. Monteforte grabbed a goal in injury time to add to the scoreline heading in a Terriaca cross.

Chieti outplayed us and easily deserved the win. Dos Santos had us behind after 12 minutes easily slotting in a cross at the back post. Dos Santos grabbed a second goal after 40 minutes volleying in from a yard out. 3 minutes later Di Carlo wrapped the game up with a good close range finish. We played poorly and deserved nothing.

A good month and we are performing well above expectations and hopefully can keep it up as we look to be the shock of the Serie D season.

An even game the same number of shots and shots on target for both sides but, the scoreline was one sided. De Chirico got us ahead after 10 minutes Monteforte found him in the box with a backheel and De Chirico turned and curled an effort past the keeper to put us ahead. Folorunsho got us a two goal lead after 70 minutes arriving late in the box to half volley in a Luzi cross, somewhat Lampard-esque. Monteforte ensured victory with a goal after 80 minutes Folorunsho slipped him in and he got a small touch to slip the past the keeper and in.

View attachment 179584We were dominated allowing 31 shots and 11 on target to our one on target. Cruz got us behind after 13 minutes he turned and fired in a good low finish to put us behind. Fondi bundled the rebound of a header from a corner in after a mad scramble 2 yards out. Capuano got sent off after 56 minutes to stop any chance of a comeback.

View attachment 179580In a close game a offside goal gives us the win and three big points over last place Serpentara. D'Ambrosio headed a cross into his own net to put us one goal ahead after 17 minutes. Monteforte got us two goals ahead after 54 minutes with a centre back out of position a long ball played him in and Monteforte rolled the ball past the keeper and in. Iattarelli pulled a goal back after an hour with a good low finish when in on goal. 3 minutes later he made it level again Pepe had a long shot and it was well saved by Kastrati and Kastrati then made a great save from the rebound but, then Iattarelli swooped in and fired in the rebound. Two minutes later De Chirico got us back in front played in after a cleared corner one defender stayed back to play him on and De Chirico fired a good shot past him. Pepe then levelled the game again after 73 minutes arriving at the back post to volley in a cross. An offside De Chirico bagged the winner after 81 minutes half volleying a first time effort into the top corner to get us the win.

Despite having less shots, possession and shots on target we hammered Astrea. Terriaca got us ahead after 12 minutes Folonrunsho slipped in Terriaca and despite being ten yards away from the keeper, the keeper tried to slide tackle him so Terriaca slotted it past him and in. Di Matera got us two goals ahead after 34 minutes Folorunsho attempted to slip in Monteforte but, a defender got a foot on it to redirect it to Di Matera and he fired the ball past the keeper and in. Di Matera got us three goals up after 54 minutes Di Chirico slipped him in and he chipped the keeper to score. De Chirico made it a rout scoring after 77 minutes Monteforte crossed to him and he fired in from a yard out to get us ahead. We also won 2-1 in offside goals so a complete performance.

November Update

A great month for us and we are definitely in the hunt for promotion which is a major surprise following the promotion of last year.

View attachment 178889For the third game in a row we score four goals all of them in the second half as we found some form in the second half. De Chirico got us ahead six minutes after half time turning and firing a low shot into the bottom corner. He grabbed a second goal after 67 minutes Almetti blocked a clearance passed to Luzi and he crossed to De Chirico and he flicked a header in at the back post. Almetti then grabbed a late brace to male the scoreline for one sided. First he Luzi played him in and he fired a powerful effort past the keeper and in. After 24 hours of not scoring Almetti then grabbed a second goal in two minutes with a very similar goal from the other side of the pitch De Chirico playing him in this time.

De Chirico got us in front after 4 minutes curling an effort in at the far post from just inside the box a good goal. Monteforte got us ahead after 69 minutes a tackle played him in and he fired low past the keeper. Another good win for us as we continue to stay at the top end of the table.

I had to replay the game as the game crashed half way through it wiht me a goal ahead.

Simeone put us behind after 11 minutes Di Marco crossed in and Simeone was at the back post to fire in past Kastrati. Monteforte got us level less than a minute later played onside by a lazy left back he latched on to De Chirico's through ball and he placed his effort past the keeper and in. Monteforte then got us in the lead after 67 minutes a long goal kick was chested down by him and he half volleyed it past the keeper and into the top corner. Route one at it's finest.

View attachment 178874We comeback to claim a point against Lupa Roma to help in the promotion. Cappa fired in a cross after 14 minutes to put us behind early on. We then scored a totally purposeful goal from Guarracino from thirty yards out chipped the keeper with what totally wasn't a terrible cross to level the game for us after 52 minutes. A decent draw for us and we have gone quite a while without defeat.

We are actually top of the league somehow by two points and proving all of the doubters wrong. But, it is a very tight league and we are only ten points ahead of 15th place so we could easily fly down the table if we don't keep up the good results​

There was a buzz around Castel di Sangro with the team doing well people were beginning to speak in hushed tones about the possibility of the miracle being repeated. Even if our home form hasn't been great we are at the top of the table and even in a town where the expectations for the team are high back to back promotions would thrill people.

Another promotion would require the support of the fans though as we are struggling to meet the demands of paying semi pro salaries however, we would be able to attract a new class of players if we could get into the Serie C and would only be to steps away from the riches of the Serie A.

The board have been supportive despite the financial situation deteriorating and some of our highest earning players have rarely played and are taking money that could be better spent. I will look to offload those players so that we can stay financially viable and spend to improve the squad.

They also haven't complained about how I've gone about getting us in the top spot it hasn't exactly been Barcelona style football to get us this high it has more been cynical, kick them and take the yellow if you have to or taking the booking if you miss.

We are dominating the league in bookings far ahead of our nearest rival in that category it could easily have been a few more but, for some lenient refereeing every now and then. However, we have been smart about our fouling we have only had one red card.

We are also leading the league in fouls with an impressive 125 fouls in 14 games showing that we will not let anyone get an easy ride and are a team no one wants to play against.

We also lead the league in tackles with 342 and 75% of tackles our successful which is fourth in the league, if it wasn't that good then the yellow cards lead could be even higher.

All of this means that we have the joint top stingiest defence in the league allowing just 16 goals against us.

We are also joint top for most clean sheets with six, so when we let one goal in we seem to let a couple more in which may be something to work on.

The reason that we are top is that we are also the highest scoring team in the league having fired 30 goals in. We have quite a big lead in this despite having been poor up front for most of last year we have pushed on upfront this year and become far more lethal with just under half of our shots on target going in.

As the last game of the month is a top of the table clash I will do it separately and instead add a player spotlight for two key players.

View attachment 177183Despite a De Chirico brace we fall to Celano shipping three goals as the defence is oddly porous. Carrato had us behind after 19 minutes he whipped in a corner that was cleared to him and cut inside past two players and curled a shot in past Kastrati, an incredible solo goal. De Chirico had us level ten minutes Monteforte squaring for him to smash into the far corner and leave the keeper stranded. We were behind again after 66 minutes Bongermino playing in Scappito and he fired past Kastrati to score. After 80 minutes Celano extended their lead, Bongermino with a very close range finish. De Chirico got what proved to be a consolation goal after 89 minutes as we countered and he toe poked an effort past the keeper from just outside the box. Not a good result for us but, we stay top due to other results.

Frontino put them in front(ino) after 8 minutes a brilliant counter attack ending when Frontino poked in a cross at the back post. De Chirico bagged a goal after 27 minutes to put us level Di Matera slipped him in and, he finished emphatically absolutely blasting the ball into the top corner. Just before half time we were behind again, we only half cleared a free kick and Schavion made us pay firing Kastrati. De Chirico again got us level after 78 minutes, a long ball played him in and he was textbook giving the keeper the eyes and then slotting the ball into the other bottom corner. Just as it looked like it would be a draw we were ahead for the first time in the game, Luzi hit in a deep floated cross and Di Matera got under it and headed in from a tight angle to put us ahead. We claimed all three points after leading the game for 27 seconds.

Player Spotlight

The seventeen year old is averaging a goal a game and showing no signs of slowing down my coaches still don't rate him at all but, you can't argue with how he has done. He is tied second top goalscorer in the league and has shown calmness when finishing big chances. Despite what the coaches think he could go on to be a key figure here for years to come.

View attachment 177167The twenty year old Albanian shot stopper has been vital for us this season making some massive saves since injury let him be number one last season he has made the spot his. Kastrati has been key in making our defence the biggest in the league making some massive and impressive saves to keep un in games and get us big points. In the last game despite letting in two he made 4 massive saves to help us win. He boasts an impressive 7.26 avg. rating which I feel should be higher but, is what it is.

Without him the defence and likely us as well would probably be middle of the pack instead of the best​

It's a long way for us to go for a big game and hopefully the sea sickness doesn't take to much out of us it is a long trip so for the first time since I have been in charge we have to stay in a hotel over night to be at the game on time.

It does also annoy me a bit that we have to spend over half a day travelling by coach avoiding expensive journeys is a key part of why there are 8 divisions of the Serie D. But, it is what it is and we will take on the game like any other.

The stadium is right on the sea and I cannot help but think that the massive unattractive looking piece of concrete must somewhat ruin the view of the sea in the harbour. At least it is handy for us to leave as it is 5 minutes from the ferry terminal so that we can make a quick getaway hopefully with the three points.

We approached the game like a home one as we woke up where we would play and were close to the stadium. The same tactic as usual will be used and hopefully it has a good result.

Kickoff

We get the title six pointer underway to hopefully get a big three points.

14 minutes: Di Matera has a shot blocked on the edge of the box and it falls to Terriaca 1 on 1 with the keeper at a tight angle and he struck the outside of the post and bounced out.

31 minutes: Terriaca gets free out wide and gets into the box and at the edge of the six yard box he crosses in for Di Chirico and he volleyed into what looked like a goal until the keeper clawed the ball out and behind for a corner.

Second Half

48 minutes: De Chirico wins the ball just inside the Olbia half and he played the ball up to Sellitti and he poked in Monteforte and one on one he calmly rolled the ball past the keeper to get us ahead. 1-0 Castel di Sangro

63 minutes: Albanese gets free on the right and evades De Vincetis to hit in a great cross and Mamadou has a simple tap in at the back post. But, somehow Kastrati diving down got a fingertip to the ball to knock it out for a corner. A world class save.

71 minutes: Olbia have a free kick just in our half it's chipped up to an unmarked Mamadou who is totally open 12 yards out and he smashes it out of the stadium with an awful finish in what is a massive let off for us.

81 minutes: A throw in in our half is taken long and bounces to Falasca 25 yards out, he takes a touch and just powers the ball in on the half volley. A late leveller and can either side take all three points with a late winner.

85 minutes: Mamadou after holding the ball up slips in Albanese and from almost the exact same spot as Terriaca he hits the outside of the post.

We will end the year top despite averaging under two points a game. We have the lowest points total to lead any of the Serie D by a long way and less points than most of the teams in second but, we are top regardless. Most leaders are around forty points and in around half of the leagues we would be around 8th place so we are a tad lucky to be in an even league where it is very close​

Palermo have become a senior affiliate and we will get 26,000 which is just under 10% of our wage bill and a friendly that should bring in a similar amount if not more for us. On top of all that we get free players on loan to help us at no charge which is always good.

All in all a very good deal for us​

The club has had losses for every month this season so to try and reduce them three players with large wages and almost no game between them have been shipped out in a move that should save the club around 24,000 euros which is about 10% of the money that the club has so massive for us.

19 minutes: It only took 19 minutes to get a shot in the game, we easily cleared a corner and countered. Terriaca took the ball almost the length of the pitch and then cut back inside and shot but, it drifted just wide of the target. At least it was a shot though.

Half Time

A Manchester United game would have offered more entertainment so far. Valentino replaces Di Matera for us.

47 minutes: Normanna launched a patient attack moving slowly up the pitch until a cross is whipped in and Spezzichino was on hand at the back post to head in and put us behind.

56 Minutes: After another nice move Danti is played in on goal and he gets a good shot away but, Kastrati catches it to ensure we are only a goal down.

60 minutes: A Terriaca corner is cleared to Silvestri at the edge of the box he takes the ball just into the box and is tackled. Terriaca launches a perfect slide tackle and the ball falls to Valentino 14 yards out and he fires it past the keeper and in to level the game

81st minute: Folorunsho and Almetti play a 1-2 and then he lays it off to Silvestri who slips in Almetti and he fires just over the bar almost a late lead.

A decent point and we have the closest league I have ever seen especially as only one team can get promoted at the end of it

It is really tight at the top with 5 teams within three points of the top and it is also very close at the bottom for the playoff spots with 1 game the team in 8th could fall into the playoffs.

In comparison the 24 point lead that PSG have in Ligue 1 we don't even have that big a lead over the team in last place
