Struggling Chelsea replace Laurent Blanc with Phillip Cocu
Difficult month for Wednesday too as we had real troubles scoring goals with goaless displays in 4/6 games to start the year.
Including a 3-0 thrashing to struggling Fulham. Kids clearly wanted the League Cup more.

Looks like we werent the only ones having a dismal start to the year. Everton in 4th are only 4 points clear so if we can sort out our act a top 4 challenge is still possible

Transfer Window

All English January Transfers

Tottenham make the big move on Andre Schurrle at £44m

View attachment 189891

We make 4 new signings only 1 permanently.

Reading u18 Shane Harrop joins for £2m and will join the long list of youth defenders we have. 3 Loans all have a different agenda. Adrian is cover till the summer when i can hopefully find a youth keeper thats any good. Alex Teixeira has till the end of the season to prove he's worth £13m while Adie Higgingson from Ipswich has to prove he's worth around £10m in July.

Season 2017/18 Review

Fell short of both my own and the clubs target of getting back into European football. We'll miss the extra £10m or so plus youth team experience that came with it.
We ended up 9th where we have been around about since Christmas time never coming close to challanging for the Europe.
In Europe itself we had a reasonably successful season. Won our group at a canter loosing in the last 16 to Swansea was again short of what i felt we could have done but met everyones targets.
In the league Man City went top in October and never let go of the lead all season. early leaders Arsenal fell back and were even overtaken by Man Utd by the end of the season. A great first season for Paco Jemez at Liverpool seen him guide his side to 4th a position they had no place doing so.
Going down were Fulham & Sunderland who spent all season in the bottom 3 and are joined by Derby who made a great start and were going strong till November when they went into freefall to which they never recovered.
Hull Norwich & Stoke all return to the Premiership .

Once again Cubas & Bentancur were my shining lights in a season of ups & downs. Bentancur was involved in an amazing 26 goals. Up front Benteke did himself no harm with 16 goals but exciting youngster Martin Odegaard did not have a great season but neither did Oswaldo Buelvas but long term gain short term pain is my hope. We have to keep pushing the youth into the team.

Key Players

Rodrigo Bentancur

He just gets better and better and has now reached irreplaceable status in my first team. First name on the team sheet. Was in the top 3 for young player of the month almost ever month and is only coming up to his 21st birthday.

Andres Cubas
View attachment 187550
Does his job much quieter than Rodrigo but is no less effective. The team did not have its best season at the back but we wont be putting too much blame on Cubas.

Leon Goretzka
View attachment 187548
The future of our midfield looks in very safe hands! Leon is as close as it gets to a safe better when signed from Schalke and after slowly finding his feel last term this year he came on leaps and bounds.

Season 2018/19 Preview

Loads of youth players arrive as expected but after falling back i felt the need to make HUGE transfers from Man Utd & Arsenal
Holland win the World cup with a 4-1 win over France. South Africa get all the way to the Semi Finals in the shock of the tournament where Italy, Argentina, Germany, Brazil & England all were out at the last 16 stage.
View attachment 187231

Season 3 Targets
Premiership - Qualify for European football
FA & League Cups - Back up teams

9th place will not be good enough with new signing s Mesut Ozil & Memphis Depay expecting Europa League football at least. Youth teams should do better in the cup with a years more experience and the better depth a run in either cup isnt beyond realistic.

Starting team 2018
View attachment 187234
Changing around our tactics to suit our best players. Maybe leaving a worrying gap behind Depay but only time will tell. Still need to add a quality Center Back.

Summer signing
View attachment 187233
Two huge signings in Memphis Depay and Mesut Ozil as well as two Brazilians Belchior & Jorge come in to do some work in there development on the left.

Memphis Depay - ML
View attachment 187232
Two years ago he won the golden boot two seasons later he's transfer listed for £24m which we cut down to £22.5m Never played a League game last season despite never being injured. His stats at United 9 games 0 goals, At Holland 8 games 5 goals and a World Cup

Mesut Ozil - AM
View attachment 187230
Fair enough he'll be 30 in October but he's still playing for Germany & statistically he looks like one of the top Attacking Midfielders in the game so for £14m even if we only get 2 good years and a bit of tutoring and i'll be happy.

Jorge - DL
View attachment 187229
Had my eye on the Brazilian international for the last year or so but his form last season combined with Jose Enrique's age ment i had to make my move this summer before any other teams stuck there noses in.

Belchior - ML
View attachment 187228
Found during one of my hunts through the South American teams. He was signed with intention to be my main left winger till the once in a lifetime chance to sign Memphis will hold his development for now he'll have to be happy as back up.

Out
Busiest window of talented players we've let go so far. First was Hirving Lozano who was demanding a move long before the summer * with Belchoir & Depay replacing him he will be no loss but a £23m profit in once season. Our stand out sale was Martin Odegaard to Man City for £45m. I have not looked to see how he develops in this years FM either way this will turn out to be a genius move or a disaster that will plauge us for a decade. Other starting players on there way are Jose Enrique who's at the end of his carear, Neven Subotic who's off to Everton for £8.25m and the promise of more 1st team football. Marco Matias's time as our super sub is over again a promise of more first team action at relegated Derby. final player leaving is my first u19 failure Jelle Aladiaoui. Contract expires next summer and after two poor season with minimal development he's away to Spurs at a £6m loss.

So we know about the top 3. We lead and will have to falter miserably at the end to let either Manchester side back into it. Battle for 4th is no clearer either. This had all the feeling of a title winning result. man City were playing Man Utd in a play off with City who did what they had to and win to stay in the hunt and all but lock Man Utd into 3rd. They did it the hard way though having to come from behind with our former midfielder Odegaard scoring at both ends before De Bruyne grabbed the winner.

Man City won 1-0 at home to Stoke to close the points gap to 3 and GD to 1. There win leave Stoke in huge trouble at the bottom while Norwich are officially relegated. Battle for 4th seen Chelsea loose 4-2 to Watford but are still in a strong spot thaks to Arsenal looking 3-0 to QPR there now tied with Tottenham for 6th 5 points off 4th place and the only side with a GD close to Chelsea that leave Leicester as closest challengers 4 points back.

A very nervous performance but again in a traditional Champions charge we scored with the last kick of the ball before half time and that turned an even game in our favor. Romero removed all doubts with 15 minutes to go and set us up for the Chelsea game with the title a finger tip away.

View attachment 185120
Man City won 4-1 at Bottom club Hull and more importantly they have tied the GD at 47.

Chelsea are locked into 4th place so have "nothing" to play for on the final day, not that i'd imagine that would effect the game on there behalf.
For the final relegation spot Stoke need to beat Norwich on the final day with Swansea beating West Brom

Going into the final game the ball is in our court. Avoid defeat at Stamford Bridge and the title is ours! If we loose the its all on Newcastle doing us a favor at St James park where Man City will be visiting

In the end it didnt matter what we did as Newcastle had Man City in there pocket the whole afternoon. At the bottom Stoke were given the oppertunity to stay up with Swansea beating West Brom but if you cant help yourself you have no chance and loosing at home to an already relegated Stoke makes you worthy of relegation im afraid

Great win mate!! Good to see Utd get promoted also. Hopefully they can stay up and make the job easier for when you make the switch.

Season 2018/19 Review

A Brilliant run of form in the second half saw our top four challenge turn into a championship charge. One league defeat after Christmas time. Leading the Club to there first title in almost 90 years as we saw off Man City and Man Utd with Chelsea some way back in 4th. Leicester & Arsenal grabbed the Europa League spots along with 17th placed West Brom who despite needing a defeat by Stoke on the final day to avoid relegation victory in the FA Cup final secured there spot in Europe next year.
Speaking of relegation Stoke were the only side that put up a fight over the final week while Norwich & Hull were down a while ago. They will be replaced by Championship winners Ipswich, Sheff Utd & playoff winners Bournemouth who need to do work to there stadium
For the 3rd time in 4 years Man Utd lost the Champions League Final and that amazingly cost Diego Simeone his job

Followed our own formula for success. Indifferent first 3 months but come December till August United floated around the playoff spots and in the final two weeks made there way to 2nd a position they only held on week 44 & 46. The only time all year they were in the automatic promotion zone. Great to see the big two Sheffield teams in the top flight so quickly.
