I have uploaded the OP about the pitch dimension. Sometimes your team just plays really bad, but it does not happen for no reason. So if you guys have useful information, sharing here will help us all. Cheers!

Hi prescottrh,

Thank for your sharing on opposite instruction. This may help me a lot!

I'm happy that 3Combo works well for you. So how many away matches you have played with 3Combo,

14 away so far in all competitons, 1 loss to man city in league cup. Played 32 matches using this now, however, I have had to use combo 2 in past 2 champions league matches against Fenerbache, think this is down to some injuries, player malaise and my lack of knowledge about Turkish players, football and its philosophy as the combo 3 has been fine up until now against 442. In the home tie I had 20 shots to their 1 using combo 2 with conatin mentality.

To be honest I'm not so bothered about set pieces, I could get more with better takers (currently 14) however I don't want to sacrifice my pace on wings and I don't like players moving across pitch or out of position to take them in case the opp get a good break chance.

Any sort of key attributes for each position that you prefer? I don't want to spend money on players that don't fit the criterea.

But anyways, really nice tactic so far. Although I did have to make some tweaks to it in the Team and Individual instructions to fit my team more (although not much).

I did notice that the Combo2, the away tactic, does not always need to be played in away games. I usually just play them against big teams or mid-table teams away. I use Combo1/3 against weaker (lower table) teams away. Working great for me so far doing just that.

I've just finished using your tactic for one full season on my Newcastle save, and it's brought me great success.
I'll try and upload some screenshots later.

As a Sunderland fan allow me to provide you with a tip I have that may help you, sign 11 golakeepers and play them on the pitch;)

Using the updated 1Combo and 2Combo for my game with the CC Mariners in the A-league. 6 wins out of 6 in the league and went out on away goals to Al Gharrafa in the ACL quarter finals (They have Tardelli and Bresciano who are mid-premier league team quality. their combined wages are also higher than my entire team) so all in all a great start. McBreen has 6 from 6 and Tommy Rogic has 3 goals and 2 assists in 6 as well, so it's performing very well in the final third and the football is exciting to watch.

Only used 3Combo once when I was 1-1 away and they had a man sent off in the 86th minute. Switched it to overload and scored 2 minutes later.

I'll continue to use it throughout the season and will post up screenshots when it's over.

Haha why? I don't get it ^^)

I see that you have been familiar with Combo tactic. So really hope for your screenshot here.

Can you provide me some screenshot on your squad, stames999?

Because you have a Newcastle save and the mags are the dreaded enemy of the mighty Red and White Sunderland army.

This is why a lot of people are hating FM. They're clinging for one good tactic and hoping it will win them the league without changing it. Teams study you and that is why one tactic won't do. You need to rotate tactics to stop becoming predictable. Great work mate.

I disagree with this, its a belief dearly clung to by many but is I feel wrong, the main point is that you should play against the manager of the opposition, his team will ulimately sart the match playing his favourite formation, mentality etc. Its this that changes as managers get sacked. Its not AI that makes QPR beat you the 2nd time you play them even though you thrahsed them earlier, its the new manager's philosophy. Using x+y=win when you played them first time so you should win 2nd time right? No, but it is't due to AI, its due to manager change. That's my view anyway and it works for me.

For further clarity as it may appear I am attacking your post the term "changing tactics" can be arbitrary, for me it signals a change in formation as well as other things such as mentality. Any changes to the detail of a set formation to me is a tweaking of the current tactics. Example being that if I play with a left footed striker I'll make my dlp the mcl rather than the mcr. Or a chnage in mentality, however, to others I understand that this is indeed classed as a change of tactics.

You can use the same formation all season no problem but not always the same mentality or opp instructions. My current match is a home tie against Porto, they are playing a 451 in the arsenal style. Normally you'd close down the dmc but not something I'd recommend against Porto as Fernando will be technically very good and pass the ball past my closing midfileder. Instead I'll drop my amc on to him to tight mark man to man thus taking him out of the game. They'll also use overlapping fullbacks so show them on to their strong foot to force them wide, tight mark their lone striker and bob's your uncle 4-0 up in 75th minute looking to rest key players in 2nd leg. But still playing combo 3 formation.

Use contain as mentaility due to Porto's philosophy of passing through the middle, keeps it narrow and tight and leaves them just crossing as an attack option.

Update, Fernando so out the game he got a red card for his frustration.

I am about to try our tactic with a Swedish second division team called GIF Sundsvall! I do have a problem, with almost no money at all and only one striker (TAll, strong etc) typical Target. Can i, untill i could get more of a Poacher type, change his role to TM you think? And set ball distribution "on feet" or variation?

cheers

Dzunglv:

Using former combo1 and combo2. What are the main diferences between these old version and the new ones?

Btw, update on my save:

2 games to end the season, Swansea at home and Real Madrid in the ECL final! :D

Lost 2 games, both with regens/reserves and using for one half away Combo1.

Combo 2 with hassle opponents is very good, even at home to hold a result.

About some reviews on Man City: Using combo2 will do the job with a pacey AMC and a good passing striker.

cheers mate

Can you upload about attribute stats of the striker? I have had good result with Persie and Giroud, set them to DLF and pass "mixed". Don't worry, you even can untick the Target man anyway, or put it on one of your wingers. Counter on the break does not need to be ended in the middle. ;)

Good luck in Final my friend!

My 1st season I faced Real in Final too. Draw 2-2 and lost in Penalty kick. If you gonna using Opposition Instruction for that match, I think you shoud use "Never" closing down on some Real superstars.

Oh and forget about new tactics. They are not good enough sadly. I'm gonna delete the update tomorrow. On cellphone right now :)

Thanks man, here you go: Steam Community :: Screenshot
(Its swedish)

One more question though, what match and general training you use? :)

cheers

Edit: Before using this i was at the bottom om the league having hard to get consistent result. After applying this one, 6 gaes without a loss! 3 wins, 3 draws! Even though i applied it 12 games in, were playing much better. None of the tactics are fluid yet!
Just signed a quicker striker from Flamengo, join me for free in august. And a new LB. Who will join me after the season, in december! Thanks!

Really sorry for this, mate. You can give it a go but actually the new one is not consistent in my save game. I have over tweak it I guess. And big disadvantage of tweaked tactic is that you cannot efficiently make changes to it during the match. The first 3 combo still do good for me in new season. Actually they saved me from being destroyed by the new ones :(

1st. let me explain one thing:

If you use shouts, they will conflict if you changed the sliders. So, combo 1 and combo 2 should not be used with shouts. Combo 3, as its all in default SHOULD be used with shouts if necessary, meaning that if things don't work with 1, 2 or default3, you should use shouts.

Remember that shouts will change your tactic. if you use hard tackle, suing the shout to be less aggressive will overrule your default order.

Now, about your shouts. Playing Combo2 is all about good defending, closing down and counter, right? That's why we use it against bigger teams and/or away matches. I play with Utd and i use this even at home against City.

City will play a 4-2-3-1, with a huge pressing on the defenders and mids. If you retain the ball, you will expect to loose the ball in the mid and get 4 or 5 guys running against 2 CBs. One will try to cut the ball, they will get 2 to run forward and there you have it: a goal on your net!! :D

I use hassle opponents in some situations like:

Combo 1 - at home, winning by 2 or more goals and not get complacent. I prefer a yellow card and a clean sheet. this shout is given at half-time or after the 2nd goal in the 2 half.
Combo 2 - away, winning by 2 and expecting a cavalry charge. This shout is giving after the 2nd goal
Combo 2 - home or away, against big/similar teams. This shout is given when i feel the team is giving some space to players like Messi, Aguero, Ronaldo, Cavani, etc. I don't want them to feel comfortable :D

Also, OI is very important. I let Mike Phelan make the job, but i always check his instructions. for example, he does not like to give Balotelli some hard tackle, which, IMO is wrong, so i do it myself. After all, im the boss :D

Hop it helped.

I think i have posted something before about this. Please check some pages behind, but in resume i use ball control in general and defensive positioning on game.

I think im gonna change this too in my 2nd season to i can be more productive at home against smaller teams (ME SMASH)
