Tottenham look to continue good form

Tottenham Hotspur will look to carry on their good form which has seen them play well. August was a good month which saw Tottenham hold their own against the likes of Chelsea and Man Utd. This month though the tough matches keep on coming as they face Arsenal and Liverpool. They also face FC RB Salzburg at home in the Champions League and FC Bayern away. They also have a match in the Carling Cup against League 2 club Morecambe. It should be a match where Martin Jol can experiment with some of his younger players.

Roy Hodgeson cranks up pressure

Roy.jpg

Liverpool's Roy Hodgeson has criticised Tottenham Football club, claiming that they already think they're a top four team. He said...

" Tottenham act with an arrogant conduct, they seem to think that they are a regular top four team already. I admit they have played well recently but I think they're heading for a fall and I think it will be a long fall. I also think they will tire early as they have a small squad and I think they're arrogance will create problems within the club."

Roy Hodgson maybe left eating his words after this game as Tottenham played and dominated well. The likes of Gerrard and Torres were barely visible and were forgotten men on the pitch as Agbonlahor and Crouch shined. Agbonlahor scored from a one on one and Crouch with a trademark header.

A grudge match between these two. Rivals for so long and even more so now as they are of a similar standard. Arsenal played a patient game allowing Tottenham to score first b ut then turning on the style. Fabregas lead by example scoring and setting up a goal.

A masterclass in midfield as Yoann Gourcuff ran rings around the Salzburg defence. The Frenchman made it look all too easy at times and would have been delighted to score his hattrick. His best goal coming from a freekick outside the area.

Back to the domestic league in which Tottenham carried on banging in the goals. Lennon taking charge and scoring from two mazy runs from the right. Yoann Gourcuff also keeping up his scoring form too.

A good solid match in which the Tottenham youngsters took control. Mehdi Abeid, Serge Aurrier, John Bostock and others played and dominated against their lowly opponents. Danny Rose looked especially exciting, commanding the midfield and often the one to pull all the strings.

Tottenham ran riot and were firing on all cylinders. Peter Crouch was in sensational form scoring a hattrick. Javi Martinez scored his first goal for the club and enjoyed a good match. It was misery for Wigan and Ex-Tottenham man David Bentley was yellow carded for a vicious foul on Jermain Defoe and gave a terrible display.

FC Bayern expectantly grabbed the win and demolished a poor Tottenham who looked nervous, perhaps a bit starstruck by the big names Bayern possess. Gregory Van Der Wiel set up all three goals and looked the best player on the pitch by far. Tottenham will hope to at least get a draw against Bayern in the return match.

Gourcuff played well even scoring a hattrick this month

Crouch also got a hattrick playing against Wigan

A mixed bag of results for Tottenham last month. They lost to Arsenal in the derby and also lost comprehensively to FC Bayern in the Champions League. They still however remain top of the league despite the loss to their arch rivals Arsenal. Martin Jol has been busy sending his scouts over Europe with potential signings in mind. Luis Fabiano (Sevilla), Marek Hamsik (Napoli) and Thomas Muller (FC Bayern) have all been linked. It will only be a matter of time before we see how concrete these rumours are.

Tottenham shone on a day where a lacklustre Wolves side played lazy football. The Wolves team played with no passion or energy and looked like they had no desire to play. It was a performance that will likely enrage their boss Mick McCarthy who looked like he was going to go beserk at the full time whistle. Full credit to Spurs who easily won what could have been a tough game.

Tottenham looked like they were on their way to a fantastic win having scored two goals early on. Tim Cahill had other ideas though and scored two of his own. It was a real midfield battle which saw fantastic tackles from both sides, Tom Huddlestone and Steven Pienaar were among those who particuarly impressed.

Benfica narrowly edged this match with sheer power and determination. A strong Tottenham side couldn't contain the likes on Oscar Cardozo and Javier Saviola who all too often whizzed past the Tottenham defence. It was two set pieces that undid Spurs with both Coentrao and Luiz heading in from corners.

Tottenham fans were singing all sorts of songs about their latest hero none other than Gabby Agbonlahor who scored three fantastic goals against Newcastle. He really left the blocks on fire scoring a first half hattrick. When he was subbed off at just over the seventy-five minute mark he was given a standing ovation by the adoring Spurs fans.

Carling Cup disaster for Tottenham who surely would have looked at this competition as one they could win. Jol fielded a mix of youngsters and experienced players who seemed like they couldn't gel together. Harry Kane was especially disappointing getting carried away in the heat of the moment and earning himself a needless yellow card.

Mark Hughes and Martin Jol were like two mad men on the sidelines both screaming at their teams. The managers aggression seemed to pour onto the pitch as the game turned a bit feisty with six yellow cards being shown, two for the same player resulting in John Pantsil being removed from the pitch. Peter Crouch finished the game off right at the death and sealed Fulhams fate.

A Crunching tackle brings down Agbonlahor

Today it has been announced that Gabby Agbonlahor will be out of action for approximately two months as he recovers from a torn hamstring. Fulham midfielder Simon Davies lunged in with an awful tackle which felled Agbonlahor and caused visible pain. He was stretchered off and taken to Hospital where they diagnosed him.

" As soon as I hit the ground I knew it was bad, I felt the pain immediatley and knew I wouldn't be able to play on. Simon Davies has sent his apologies and their is no hard feeling on my behalf, it's football and this happens. I know the lads will deliver and Tottenham will continue to do well without me."

November

Last month left Tottenham kicked out of the League Cup and struggling in the Champions League. They are however doing ok in the league and recorded some good results last month. Tottenham will be desperate to stay in the Champions League and will fight tooth and nail to ensure they stay there. Martin Jol has insisted that his team is good enough and if they reach the group stages he will again strengthen in January.

Tottenham dusted themselves off from their loss at Eastlands and found the form they have been most used to of recent times. Jamie O'Hara many whom thought wouldn't make the grade at White Hart Lane put in a sparkling performance as he dictated play, skinned defenders and even found time to score a lovely freekick. Well deserved man of the match.

Tottenham are finally starting to look in a position now where they can maybe progress into the group stages of the Champions League rather than fall into the Europa League or miss out completely. A disappointing match to say the least but Stoke put up a valiant display and will be pleased they picked up a point. At the same time Martin Jol must be happy with a point too after seeing Stoke progress and play alot better as the game went on. Nicolas Lodeiro scored a tap in to take Tottenham into the lead but six minutes later Ricardo Fuller headed past Joe Hart to level things up.
