Sun,Sea and a winning mentality
I have took the lads off the Bahrain for a little three day holiday as the lads need a break after a hectic December. I will take this time to ask the players opinions of my management, tactics etc. We will also play a friendly match against a local team, where i will assess the fringe players of the team and it will be their chance to prove to me that they are good enough players for my team.
Day 1 of the Bahrain Holiday
Today, there will be a 1 and half hour light fitness session just to keep the lads fit and well enough, as i don't want to turn this holiday into the fault for a downhill season, however i believe it will make us stronger and the closeness of the team will be none other than superb.
Matthew going through his paces with the rest of the lads
Now that is out of the way, i will speak to the first-team players one by one and get there opinions of the season and my management ways. At the end of the day, they're the ones that make you the manager you are so their opinion means a lot to me. Here are some of the replies i got when i asked
'How do you reckon our season is going so far, how do you feel about me and my tactics etc. Anything i need to improve on?'
Ryan Shawcross ( Captain )
Our season is going brilliant, we are performing above expectations, yet you have kept our feet on the ground and get the lads stable and not ahead of their selves. Tactically, we play our best football since i have joined, as we are keeping it on the ground and playing around opponents and getting more goals instead of ramming through the opponents and giving our silly free-kicks etc.
Jonathan Walters
This season i am disappointed to not be starting as many, however the last month i have been given a chance and i am grateful for you doing that. Ever since you have arrived, the lads work rate is much better and it gets everyone in to the game without any passengers. I hope we can meet expectations and beyond this season as you,the staff and the boys deserve a great season after the first half we have had so far.
Day 2 of the Bahrain holiday
We have a match against local side Muharraq, i am playing lads that i haven't really played this season as they can have a run out. I expect a win and will be assessing their determination and attitude throughout the match and will be looking for the players to shine and run the match.
Friendly Match
Muharraq 1 vs 7 Stoke City
Crouch, Huth, Cahill, Jerome(2), Tonge, Delap
Happy with the lads performance today on a very hot January day in Bahrain. we achieved exactly what i wanted and Jerome and Delap particularly impressed as they were a danger through out and their determination to win the ball made me happy.

Day 3 of the Bahrain holiday
Last day today, we leave at 8pm local time tonight. The morning session will consist of ball work, mainly keeping possession and skill circle. In the afternoon the lads and i will go Go-Karting to bond and have a laugh as they have worked hard. we had the vote and Go-Karting was the result. Looking forward to it to be honest.
Afterwards
What a laugh! i didn't do very well, didn't expect Robert Huth to be a class act with a Kart. Overall i think the holiday was a great experience and the team seems closer then ever. We are all packed and ready to leave. i will express my aims for the month and we will all set targets for each other.
