I hope king starts to be honest if he's fit. Carragher got owned for pace by jozy altidore and it almost lost us the game.:S

True but I'd still rather play Carragher against Algeria and Slovenia, King obviously isn't fit enough.

My view is that he made the wrong subs he should have brang on Joe Cole and upson or Dawson, and possibly Defoe a clinical proven finisher. We can still do it I believe but we need Barry so lamps can take up his Chelsea role and not worry about sitting back. I was dissapointed with Rooney I so hope he proves me wrong for douting him.

i must admitt that i didn't expect so many respondes to this thread but i believe that england can reach the final... good luck lads
You only got this many replies because i closed the England USA thread last night. :P

english mates don't worry about draw... you have a good team and old fox capello

Ok, so it may just be me, but I don't think Rooney can do much when he can't get a decent ball passed to him. Half the time he had to come to the half-way line to get the ball. Not hid fault.

History aint gonna help us

So what if Italy drew their firts game in 2006 and went on to win the World Cup.......With the England performance I saw and the Germany performance I saw yesterday there is certainly lots of contrast and yes we have not even seen Netherlands,Brazil or spain play yet

The Good

1. Glen Johnson was awesome going forward, and most probably our best attacking player on the night.
2. The Gerrard & Lampard partnership looked good, the balance between attacking and defending was always there.
3. Terry was one of the only calming influences we had on the ball, when Carra came on he was playing as if he was drunk.
4.The battering ram (Heskey) look good in parts but most of his flicks came to nothing (other than the goal). Rooney also said he prefers to play as the lone striker so do we really need him? Another midfielder could help us retain possession easier. Heskey could be used as a Plan B.

The Bad

1. We didn't pass the ball around enough. If you look at all the top teams they retain possession easily whereas we only know how to pass it along the back four and to the keeper.
2. Rob Green should never of been in the starting XI. People talk about experience when it comes to choosing Hart but what has experience done for Green? Still makes terrible mistakes.
3. We didn't get the ball to Lennon enough - We all saw the threat he posed when we got him one on one with the full back. He can terrorise any full back on his day.
4. SWP should never of came on. Joe Cole would have offered a lot more for us + the ability to retain possession which SWP lacked.
5. Rooney was non-existant. He didn't looked up to the pace and he had the touch of a rapist.

Think people get a tad carried away. It's first game, and i'm sure you don't need reminding about that last time we won the world cup we drew the first game 1-1. If we don't get a result against Algeria and co then we have serious troubles and thats when we should be getting worried.

Well, hasnt got any better sadly.

Do you guys still think we'll qualify?

No. We're going home. Rooney and co. Do us a favour and pack your bags now. Get on the plane now and spare us the inevitabe.

'Oh well we tried to play but it didn't happen'

Same old excuse every ******* time with England. A bunch of overpaid, talentless, bollockless, boring, overrated **** bastards. I bet if the FA offered you lot money to play for England, everything would ******* change quickly.

We don't deserve to have the privilege of competing on the world's biggest stage, when every time our so called 'world's best players' fail to perform to their highest standards.

I was forced to endure 90 minutes of England's so called 'performance' today. Absolutely ridiculous.

Gutless. Talentless. Hopeless. Disgraceful.

You'll still qualify though Heskey needs to be dropped. Should be...

James
Johnson - Terry - Carragher - Cole
Barry
Lennon - Lampard - Cole
Gerrard
Rooney

I hope "Rooney and Co" was simply an expression and not putting Rooney top of the **** list

This is the bit that really ****** me off.

I wouldnt mind so much if our team was absolutely **** talent wise and never played well for their clubs, but a few of them are world class players yet play *****! :@

Yeah it was just an expression. Only cos he's the most well known player etc, just an expression.

Only the players can prove us wrong , i personally dont find it capellos fault , managers have come and go through england through the last few years have any single one of them made a difference not from what i have seen , to me its down to the players there just doesnt seem to be any belief , controlled aggression , or determination any more which is most probably what won them the world cup in 66 the belief , desire , compassion , its all gone now the pundits have poked and looked for excuses for it , its heskey , its 1 up front , its the heat , its this its that , just face it when i watch england i fail to pick out any player that is running there total 100% in a game i just don't , i think they need an english manager , and a good one , someone who can get it into there heads we are england grab the world by the scruff of the neck and show them why we have the best league in the world . If you look at at the england team more often than not we have a power advantage over most teams in the world lets get the ball and run over them all , like chelsea with mourinho pure power and directness and belief .

Its so frustrating watching players like A.Cole, Lampard, Rooney, Lennon etc all playing absolute **** when they've had such good seasons, I just think our media never helps the problem to be honest and until they stop hyping things up in this country so much it will never change in my opinion

they were all ****, but the whole set up was ****. i posted repeatedly if we lined up 4-4-2 we'd struggle with possession, and unfortunately i was horribly right
