A week after the humiliation at St James' Park, United came unstuck spectacularly again. After Eyal Berkovic gave Saints an early lead, Roy Keane was sent off, and Saints took over with an Egil Ostenstad hat-trick and further goals from Berkovic and Matt Le Tissier. David Beckham, David May and Paul Scholes replied for the visitors.

United goalkeeper Massimo Taibi gifted Chelsea's Gus Poyet a first minute goal - and the hosts never looked back as United's 29-game unbeaten run was emphatically ended. United's hopes ended when Nicky **** was sent off, with Poyet, Chris Sutton, Jody Morris and a Henning Berg own goal compounding a miserable day for Ferguson's men.

Man Utd 1 Liverpool 4 (March 14, 2009)
Cristiano Ronaldo gave United a 23rd-minute lead but Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard (penalty) turned things around before Nemanja Vidic's straight red card 15 minutes from time. The visitors made the man advantage tell in the closing stages, with Fabio Aurelio and Andrea Dossena netting.
