Another easy knockout round draw...not!

View attachment 58482

In December I made the decision to sign an experienced goalkeeper for January. We were averaging one goal conceded per game when I made the decision to sign Inigo Garcia for a club record £17.5m.

Of course, once I did that Alex Wilson kept 7 clean sheets in his next 10 games!

PART-TIME MANAGER

Jose and Utd were so far ahead in the Premier League (11 points) that I have decided to holiday in between cup games as we are cruising to another SPL title and Jose ain't getting sacked anytime soon.

Excluding the cup games which I personally took charge my assistant is doing alright even winning Manager of the Month twice in a row!

Our home form in knockout rounds is a thing of beauty!

No need for the home form to rescue us here. Remember the away day blues when we first got into Europe??

Semi Finals

We meet old foes Chelsea again in what is becoming a bit of a rivalry. They knocked us out last year. We beat each other in the group stages this year. 7-1 at Aberdeen Stadium, 4-1 at the Bridge.

A ding dong first leg was 1-1 in the 82nd minute. Two quickfire goals from Callum Slattery (one of my first signings at Aberdeen) gave us a massive lead against the run of play. However a 92nd minute Chelsea goal gives them hope up in Scotland

View attachment 58471

Hope? What hope! Chelsea take the lead through an 8th minute penalty but then it is all Aberdeen. We beat them 7-1 at home in the group stage and this one could have been by even more.

A SECOND FINAL IN TWO YEARS!!

Due to unprecedented demand our new stadium is already under expansion, up to 42,506

The Special One signs a new deal extending his stay at Old Trafford until 2032. **** IT!!

View attachment 1155810

Our new stadium was set for a £16m upgrade to hold 42506 fans.

Our Champions League success has changed that!

View attachment 58413
54500!! Almost as big at Parkhead and Ibrox. Interesting to see how many fans we actually get in it.

With the £58m outlay to expand the stadium it is perhaps time to replenish the bank account so I aimed for just free transfers or loan signings.

Alberto comes on a free from Real. Greg Bishop won't be at Aberdeen forever even with a £55m buyout clause.

Jobling returns to Aberdeen after 40 goals over two previous loan spells

And that was that for the 2028/29 summer window

..or so I thought..

DEFENSIVE UPHEAVAL

In all Football Managers I've never been one to turn down good money for my players. I enjoy the challenge of trying to replace them with cheaper and potentially better players.

As such our Champions League winning defence is no more with Utd and Bayern offering deals too good to refuse for two of our back 3.

A potential £102m for two defenders who cost £20.75m combined is great business.

Mazinho
£16.75m from Sao Paolo

There were better centre backs than the two I've signed but I wasn't spending £40-50m on defenders. Mazinho at 19 years old is one who will eventually be moved on at a profit assuming he adapts well to life in Aberdeen.

As a result of our transfers our bank balance is back up to £88m after the £58m spent on stadium improvements which won't be completed until the start of next season

2028 UEFA SUPER CUP

Even though it may be considered a pres-season for the bigger clubs in Europe, we can take great pride in winning the Super Cup, defeating Barcelona to claim a second Super Cup (the real Fergie won it in 1983). Following in his footsteps indeed.

In a possible fresh twist...

My plan was always to follow the follow Fergie's path from East Stirlingshire to St Mirren to Aberdeen then finally Man Utd.

Given that Jose will have been in charge for 16 years by the time his latest contract expires I may add one change, albeit a massive one, to this career.

View attachment 1155811

When Fergie took over Man Utd on 6th November 1986 they were 4th from bottom.

As I wait on Jose to retire and ride into the sunset I might add the following career criteria:

  • [*=center]If the team 4th bottom of the Premier League has no manager on November 6th any season I might take the job and try to match Fergie's Man Utd record with this new team

This will depend on how close Jose is to the end of his own Man Utd reign

We arrive at November 6th 2028, West Brom are 17th but have no intention of firing Chris Powell just yet. The only manager under threat in the Premier League is Man City's Roger Schmidt who has City 5th in the league.

The new stadium has given me a fresh leash of life at Aberdeen anyway. While I wait for the Utd job I am going to try to max out the capacity to its 77,000 limit and make Aberdeen the biggest club and stadium in Scotland.

Bit of a slow start as the new defenders took time to gel but on a roll now. Another unbeaten season perhaps. Former club St Mirren struggling and have just sacked their manager. I am even trying to loan them some youngsters.

Jose is in a title race for once, trailing Emmanuel Adebayor's (that's right, him) Everton.

From experience Utd, with media prediction 1st, would need to be 3rd or below before Jose comes under any sort of pressure

I'm closing in on Fergie's 459 games in charge of Aberdeen.

I'm desperate for the new challenge and would happily pack my bags tomorrow for Old Trafford.. enough records have been claimed at this point!

Mega-rich PSG are humbled by the Dons. 9 - 0 at home is without doubt the most dominant result we've had in Europe.

Keeping an eye on Man Utd here in the knockout rounds.

I wanted Porto and to avoid Utd. Ended up with the mighty Barcelona which should have been a tough draw but if you can't progress after winning 5 - 1 in the Nou Camp then you shouldn't be in the competition!

THE UCL FINAL TWO YEARS IN A ROW!!

AND A SHOWDOWN WITH JOSE
