hey there, I'm currently managing Arsenal, still in their first season using your 4-4-2 top team. so far, I'm in 1st place, 6 points in front of man utd, so it's been working well so far. i have 2 questions:

what do i do when there's bad weather? in these games, whenever my team starts an attack, they always misplace their passes, allowing the opponent to steal the ball and score.

how do i beat 4-4-1-1(everton) and 4-2-3-1(atletico madrid in champs league)? this is really frustrating, as I usually beat most teams easily, even man utd and chelsea, but just can't seem to score against everton. in my latest match against them, they had 20 shots on target and 5 cc chances compared to my 9 sot and 1 ccc. it's a good thing almunia was on form that day as we managed to get a draw in the end, but still....

thanks in advance

-Against Everton (away?) I would use Balanced with heavy OI. Make sure that their attacker does not get control of the ball. I would also settle for 1 point as its one of the hardest away games.

-Against A-Madrid, I'm not really sure how they play ?

-In bad weather, and/or pitches, I mostly use 6.Counter or tick the counter box in 3.Attack Home. Play a more direct approach.

thanks! glad to know it's not only me who find everton hard to beat....

and one last thing, is vela a complete forward? and how can you tell? ive tried putting him in ade's position(fcl) and rvp(fcr) but he's been rather average on both

Hta you stay away from any more foreign signings. If you are playing as Wigan, then I would use the 442 NO TM

Hard to say. If its tactical, Its down to the version picking. Try to use the more defensive version for a while. Also consider tweaking the FCright settings in all versions, perhaps everything on mixed instead, removing the hub and free role

I would probably use a mixture of 4231 NO TM and the 4411 like this

version 1,2,3,4 from 4231 ( overload - balanced)
version6,7,8, from 441sus counter-sus)

well, dont get me wrong TBH but i spent a lot of time studying your tactics and now, after all, i can surely say that all they are..."nothing special". you did really huge job with all these tactics and i appreciate it but when you are after so much different tactics they simply cant be good. why dont you just stick on very few ones till perfection and then present it. no offence, just my oppinion

No offence taken.

But I have to say that you make absolutely no sense, none at all. I would be happy if you could elaborate and state Why it cant be good, from what they are different etc. Are you telling me I should present maybe 2 or 3 sets or is it the idea of sets that are useless. Should the sets only contain 2 or 3 versions or is that too much also. Should I present 2 or 3 plug & play tactics, that Plug & play is the way to go in FM09 ?These things you state, are they assumptions or have you tried each set over the time of a season. As I said, If you could elaborate, I will be willing to listen and maybe learn something.

As fo the ..."nothing special" you are correct in thet no version in none of thes sets is a world beater, diablolic or something special as a single plug & play tactic. Then again, this is not, an will never be, the aim with this thread. Its when you use the whole set that one can overachieve greatly.

TBH

First of all, thanks for the sets! It means I don't have to spend all this time designing a strategy only to see it fail, yet it's still not easy mode as I have to change tactics according to the situation.

I am currently playing a game in the Holland first division, as FC Den Bosch. This is an overrated team, supposed to end in 2nd place in the first season, but there are at least 5-6 other teams in the league that are direct competitors. Finances are pretty much non-existant, and the quality of the starting squad is low.

I am wondering which set to use with this team, in this league. Most of the teams in the league play a generic 4-4-2; it is hard to distinguish between their tactics. So far I have been using your 4-4-2 semi TM set, and it has worked out OK. Not too great though - but that may be because of my tactics picking? I am unsure what to do in most situations, as every other team is a potential winner or loser in this league.

The main problem seems to be in the finishing. Midfield works very well, and defense is good in the build-up, with some mistakes when we don't have the ball. However, my strikers don't seem to perform well at all.

Any hints on what to do with a team like this? Thanks!

It is really hard playing with a team that are overestimated by media and the opponent. Ask anyone who try to play a 442 with Liverpool first season( no signings). I would probably use the 442 NO TM set, and tweak the FCleft so that his role suits your squad, remove the longshots, put him on mixed in everything perhaps ?.As for the version picking, I would probably use attack away( home), Balanced(home) and defensive(away) as standard version until have strengthened the squad, Playing the quicker versions( like attack and counter) will most likely fail as the AI will sit with many men behind the ball.

I will be online for the most of the evening if you want to chat/help on msn

I used this tactic as Crystal Palace and got sacked for the first time in six months of playing this game. I, personally, am not a fan.

What set did you use( and what versions did you apply mostly)? I am currently using the 4411 and I am sitting in a nice 4th place in the EPL in the second season.
