Is this the first/second season?. Regardless, Those results are absolutely stunning. Would you care to upload your new versions of the tactics, with the tweaked closing down settings ?.
As for Attack away, I have actually no idea why the counter attack box is unticked ?, It sure is in my versions but it the ones, renamed and put into the rarfile, the box is not ticked. A slip of the mouse ?
So..the Attack away should have counter attack ticked. But if it works for you then don't.
First season, I think its because of a number of things:
- Not made a huge amount of changes in personel (not got the money). By slimming down the squad and bringing in better but cheaper players i've upgraded in all areas of the field. Replaced some coaching staff and brought in 1 or 2 new 1st team coaches by letting go youth staff (had more training them then 1st team). So have seen great improvements in players like Hoyte and Santon who are forming a nice partnership on the right with lots of pace.
- Tactic really suits the squad. Cardozo really deserves to be a full targetman. Tuncay and O'Neil play AMC well although i'd prefer a more technically gifted player there (Arca tbh but he plays MC not AMC) but they support Cardozo well to give him an outlet. Downing and Santon on wings get lots of crosses in or corners.
My whole first team has hard working and team players (downing is probably the lowest in those catagories) so there's no gaps due to some lazy git. It's probably why i've had to lower closing down as they're to eager to leg it about.
High stamina players in all areas of the field (again Downing is probably the lowest in my first team) so they can play aggressive closing down. I plan ahead so if there's a 3 day gap between games i'll turn down closing down as soon as I can so conserve condition. Plus a good training scheme (and coaches) that allows them to regain condition by not training them to hard is important. Playing time develops a player, not training, training just allows them to develop so there's no point training hard only to get the occational 30 minutes as you won't see much improvement. It's why I think you get such variation in how players turn out between managers, because some buy them and expect them to just become amazing whilst others buy them and play them.
- Team Talks. Read a guide somewhere and it helps, even if the Team Talk Feedback says they arn't paying attention I still think it helps.
Determination and a good character is a under rated imo, I think thats whats got me draws/wins where a squad of under 24s stars wouldn't. If Tuncay or O'Neil arn't performing well in there AMC role telling them to "Prove a Point" at half time or "I Expect a Performance" the game after can see there form change from 5.6 to 7.5+. Try that with young players or unprofessional players and they'll just crumble under the pressure or just not respond.
- Pure luck. Mistake by opposing defender/keeper, wonderstrike by my attacker, dominating display by my GK. So many points gained by these factors alone that I don't expect it to last, especially with half my first team wanted and being bid for making them unhappy.
Just to add, I agree with Kris about the OI, I think if you get it wrong it backfires majorly:
Closing Down - I set this to Never more than Always. If there's a MC who's pretty poor on the ball so no big risk of assists i'll let him have the ball so my players will be closer to whoever he passes it to. Plus my teams closing down levels are quite high so players will get closed down without putting Always. If opponent is playing 4-1-4-1 type I usually set Always against the striker to close him down before his support gets to him to help. Might help more in lower leagues with lower closing down levels and only 1 or 2 good players you need to stop.
Tight Marking - I set this for the attacker who drops deep.
Tackle - The one I use most, can set Hard for weak/wimp attackers/midfielders without having whole team on hard.
Show Foot - Show wingers inside if there strikers are tall+slow so more risk of header than through all, show wingers outside if there strikers are small+quick so more risk of through ball than header.
First thing i'm going to do is re-download and see if i've managed to corrupt/mis-click something because its more than just ticking Counter Attack. The mentalities are identical for Attack Home/Away, which confused me after my earlier questions on the wide gaps. However its ended up like it is, Attack Away is usually my starting tactic, its a bit more decisive in attack than Control (I think due to FWD runs, through balls ect) but more possession orientated than Attack Home due to lower tempo. Counter does work a lot better than Attack Away for attacking the space hence will probably make a few more adjustments and have this version of Attack Away become Balanced (because I never use it as my team doesn't play well when using it) and have a correct version of Attack Away for a more attacking Counter tactic.
Firstly, what do you man with the bit in bold ?
Why would you close down on winger etc etc..or are you referring to OI in general ? If so, then stay away from them. I only use them when I am certain how the AI is playing, when I can spot the difference between a a player making moves and player creating movements etc
I think he means he plays against the computer not network games.
