Newcastle confirm Jorgensen signing!

Even though it is only December, Newcastle are already looking towards the transfer window by making a pre-transfer for Danish defender Mathias Jorgensen.

87231.jpg

20yr old Mathias Jorgensen has put pen to paper by signing a pre-transfer agreement with Newcastle United, that will go through on the 1st of January. Newcastle were said to have no transfer budget left, but the rumour going round is that manager Nick van Aalst asked his board to sort out all the details of the transfer that will help shore up his defensive troubles. The final fee is thought to be around £3,200,000 for the young center back, and now the question is, will Newcastle be selling any defenders to make way for the youngster?

Not a December to remember

A winless month for van Aalst and his team, although good performances against Arsenal and Liverpool provided some hope, though many fans are calling for his head after the collapse agaisnt Sunderland

---

Newcastle 0-4 Sunderland
Premier League
Stadium of Light

Coloccini sent off, van der Wiel lucky to have not been, an Asamoah Gyan brace, a penalty from Harry Kewell and a Lee Cattermole wonder free kick was the worst day out the Newcastle fans could have imagined. They collapsed at the hands of their bitter rivals, and Nick van Aalst's job is in danger just like that, but can the Newcastle players bounce back?

---

Newcastle 0-0 Bolton
Premier League
St. James' Park

A bore 0-0 draw. Newcastle still looked very shaky after their previous thrashing, and Bolton could not capitalise on this and both teams left with a point each.

---

Newcastle 2-3 Liverpool
Premier League
St. James' Park

A Raul Meireles own goal, and a Dale Jennings goal gave Newcastle a 2-1 lead with less than fifteen minutes left, but a Steven Gerrard and a second Andy Carrol goal gave Liverpool a 3-2 win in the dying seconds at the Toon's home ground. A pretty devastating loss, could have been the chance for Newcastle to bounce back after two bad games, but now their winless run looks to continue.

570.jpg

---

Newcastle 1-1 Arsenal
Premier League
Emirates Stadium

Another win snatched away from Newcastle, and fans are now wondering, can they hold onto a win at all? Dale Jennings scored, what looked like, the winner with ten minutes left, but van Persie struck right back to ensure both sides shared the points. Newcastle will be somewhat happy with their performance, however they will be left wondering what went wrong.

---

Newcastle 1-1 West Brom
Premier League
St. James' Park

Newcastle gave away two more points in front of the home fans, and manager van Aalst will have to be working on fitness at training to ensure his team goes the full ninety minutes. Hatem Ben Arfa scored the opener, only to have Odemwingie cancel it out and gave yet another point to Newcastle.

---

Six points in three games taken away at the end of December, and things must improve heading into 2011 if Newcastle want Premier League football next season, however, they still sit in 15th position.

Newcastle started the new year with an away trip to Wigan. Although it looked a tricky little game on paper, the Magpies were rampant. It all started when Hoiland put it into his own net to gift Toon the lead after just five minutes. Ten minutes later, Lukaku doubled their lead and they were cruising. Two minutes after the break, Lukaku made it three before Kadlec completed the scoring eith the fourth goal just five minutes later. A fantastic win for Shearer's team.

Tottenham 2-3 Newcastle

Romelu Lukaku

Newcastle faced off against Spurs in another home game in their second game of the year, this time against Spurs. Things started great for Toon as they took the lead after just 2 minutes through Hatem Ben Arfa. Magpies fans were jubilant when Coates headed home to double the away teams lead just five minutes later. An extra five minutes later, Toon were in dreamland as Lukaku made it three and surely put the game beyond doubt with a lovely strike. Shearer's side were given a late panic though, after Jermain Defoe scored just after the hour mark. He then scored ten minutes later and Toon were hanging by a thread for their win. They got it in the end, and what a great win it was.

FA Cup Third Round

Newcastle 2-2 Scunthorpe

Shola Ameobi
13px-Soccerball_shade.png
Romelu Lukaku

Alan Shearer treated this FA Cup game as a run out for the players on the fringes of the first team and they did take the lead after 14 minutes through Shola Ameobi. Twelve minutes later though, Scunthorpe equalised through David Mirfin. Twenty five minutes into the second half, the Championship side took the lead through a Coates mistake and Shearer was forced to bring on the big guns. It worked, Romelu Lukaku popped up four minutes from time to hand the Toon a deserved replay.

Newcastle 2-1 West Ham

Newcastle returned in the league for their next game to take on West ham United at St James's Park in a game Alan Shearer had really expected to win. It did not look good though, when James Tomkins headed home for the away side after 17 minutes. After some constant heavy pressure for the rest of the game, Toon finally grabbed the equaliser with ten minutes to play through Vaclav Kadlec. Romelu Lukaku went on to ****** the game from the Hammers grasps with a ninety second minute goal, to steal the win.

Sunderland 3-0 Newcastle

The next game in the month came as bitter rivals clashed at the Stadium of Light. This game was one where the home side landed the spoils as only one team took their chances on the day. Record signing Pablo Piatti gave them the lead a minute into first half added time. Asamoah Gyan then doubled the lead just after the hour mark. After eighty two minutes, Christián Benitez completed the scoring, to give the Black Cats an impressive win.

FA Cup Third Round Replay

The next game in the month came in the shape of an FA Cup replay and there was no messing around this time for Shearer's side. Romelu Lukaku gave the visitors the lead just short of the twenty minute mark. Fabricio Coloccini then doubled the lead just after the half hour mark. A minute after coming back from half time, Kadlec made it three then just ten minutes later, Jonás completed a great move to strike home and give his team a 4-0 win to send them flying into the fourth round.

Newcastle 3-2 Tottenham
13px-Soccerball_shade.png
Garra Dembelé

Vaclav Kadlec

Shola Ameobi

For the second time in the month, Newcastle were to face off against Spurs, this time at St James' Park, Toon's backyard. The returning Garra Dembelé gave the Magpies the lead inside the first quarter of an hour. One minute before half time, Kadlec doubled the lead and it was all set for a second Toon win in a month over Redknapp's team. It was thrown into doubt though, when Rafael Van der Vaart struck home five minutes after they resumed play. Eight minutes from time, Vaart struck again and it looked all set to be heading towards a draw. This was when substitute Shola Ameobi popped up to smash home the winner, just four minutes from time.

FA Cup Fourth Round

Liverpool 2-1 Newcastle

Garra Dembelé

After the rampant in against Scunthorpe, Alan Shearer's boys travelled to Merseyside to take on Liverpool in the fourth round. David N'Gog netted the opener after just fourteen minutes and everything looked to be going the hosts way. This was until, four minutes after half time, Dembelé struck home to tie the match. Eight minutes from time, N'Gog was brought down fin the box and the referee pointed to the spot. A penalty from Steven Gerrard powered into the top corner saw the Toon crash out of the FA Cup at the second hurdle.

Alan Shearer said:
We have have had a very hectic month, and a good one to. We have been knocked out of the FA Cup, however this may become a blessing in disguise. We may now focus on the league, and we have done really well in the league this month, with two wonderful wins over Spurs, aswell as a couple of other wins. We are now lieing in fifth and only one point off of 4th place, a brilliant position for us.

Romelu Lukaku was January's player of the month for the Toon. He was in emphatic form, scoring six goals in the six games he was involved with before getting a niggling injury.

Great month Dan! Some very good wins but unlucky about the Sunderland result. :)

Champions league football perhaps Dan? Great job! ;)

February Update

steven-taylor_996316c.jpg

Here is nufc.co.uk's February update from the Toon's recent results

Fulham 3-1 Newcastle
13px-Soccerball_shade.png
Hatem Ben Arfa

In the Toon's first game of the month, they travelled south to the capital to face off against Fulham. Things looked to start very well for Shearer's team as Ben Arfa struck home after just two minutes. Nine minutes later though, Clint Dempsey equalised. Seven minutes later, Newcastle went behind due to a Danny Murphy finish. Eleven minutes after this, Diomansy Kamara effectively put the game to bed with a brilliant strike. A poor start to the month from the Toon.

Newcastle 1-5 Arsenal
13px-Soccerball_shade.png
Vaclav Kadlec

The next game in February did not come any easier as the Magpies hosted Arsenal. Marouane Chamakh gave the visitors the lead after just a quarter of an hour. Four minutes later, Tomas Rosicky doubled their lead. Five minutes after the half an hour mark, Chamakh had put the game to bed with two more strikes to complete his hat trick. On the hour mark, Vaclav Kadlec gave the home fans a goal to celebrate but four minutes later, Andrey Arshavin completed the scoring for a 5-1 win.

Blackburn 5-1 Newcastle
13px-Soccerball_shade.png
Vaclav Kadlec

Newcastle were on the road next and this time, they faced off against Blackburn. After half an hour, Shearer's side found themselves in the lead after a Kadlec strike. Nine minutes later though, Santa Cruz had levelled it with a penalty strike. In the fourht minute of added time, Coloccini was sent off in what proved to be an expensive mistake for his side. The Rovers ripped the Magpies apart in the second half, scoring four goals to take the game by five goals to one.

Newcastle 2-0 Bolton
13px-Soccerball_shade.png
Jonás (2)

After three horrible results earlier in the month, Shearer's team finished the month with a home game against Bolton Wanderers, a game that the Toon legend would be really hopeful of winning. In a dominant first half, the Magpies struggled to find a way past stopper Jussi Jaaskelainen. Twenty five minutes into the second half, Jonás found himself free of the defence and struck home to give his side the lead. Newcastle continued to press and only found another goal, three minutes into added time after Jonás struck again.

Alan Shearer said:
This was a terrible month for us. To lose heavily at Fulham was bad enough before heartless performances against Arsenal and Blackburn. To come back and beat Bolton showed we have character and I just hope we have put our worst performances behind us now.

Player of the Month

We had such a bad month, I don't think anyone has been outstanding enough to deserve my award.

January Transfer Update - Newcastle United

One transfer in and one transfer out in January for Newcastle and young manager Nick van Aalst is all about strengthening his defence for the second half of the season.

Leon Best was the one to leave, and he described his move as a 'relief' after not having played under van Aalst yet. Best had been injured up until September, and even after that, had not made one appearance in the first team. Wigan were quick to swoop in with a £2,600,00 bid for the striker that was immediately accepted. Best signed within a day, and now he will apply his trade at the DW Stadium.

The Toon spent £4,700,000 on their new player. A young English center back from West Ham. James Tomkins made the move north for Newcastle on the last day of the transfer window, and as a result of this, Sol Campbell has been transfer listed. Tomkins will look to form partnerships with current center backs Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini, Mike Williamson and Matthias Jorgensen. Jorgensen and Tomkins look to be a partnership for the future, both of them current U21 internationals for their countries.

January brings little joy for Newcastle

On a current winless streak of five games and Newcastle do not look like breaking that streak. Nick van Aalst will be feeling the pressure, and the Newcastle fans are starting to get restless, maybe van Aalst can not keep the Toon up?

---

Newcastle 0-3 Stoke
Premier League
The Brittania Stadium

A trip away to in-form Stoke was up next, and it did not look too kind for the Toon. A heavy 3-0 loss at the hands of the Potters sent Newcastle down the table, and now they look to be fighting an impossible relegation battle if they do not improve soon.

---

Newcastle 0-0 West Ham
Premier League
St. James' Park

Some very good defence from Newcastle saved their strikers blushes as a disappointing 0-0 draw was played out at home. Newcastle made plenty of chances, but their strikers could just not put the ball into the back of the net after some formidable goalkeeping from Robert Green.

---

Newcastle 0-2 QPR
FA Cup 3rd Round
Loftus Road

A long trip down south proved worthless for Newcastle as they were knocked out of the FA Cup in the early stages by a surprising QPR side. Newcastle were carved open as they looked relaxed and in a very 'non-caring' mood. The defence looked very weak, and van Aalst was seen furious on the sideline, yelling at his defenders as they just gave up. Newcastle's winless streak extended to 8 games and they look like going down now.

---

Newcastle 3-0 Aston Villa
Premier League
Villa Park

Three second half goals gave Newcastle the three points in Birmingham through goals from Vuckic, Jorgensen and Jo with only his second goal of the campaign. Vuckic got the scoring underway with a simple tap in after some brilliant work from Jonas, before Jorgensen sealed the game with five minutes left with a top header from a Nolan corner. Jo scored an absolute screamer with only seconds left and the Newcastle faithful left for home in a joyous mood.

Haris+Vuckic.jpg

Young starlet Vuckic

---

Newcastle 0-2 Manchester United
Premier League
St. James' Park

Newcastle showed that they have improved since their first 5-0 loss at the start of the season, and in this game, they even looked like scoring a few times! Two first half goals from Rooney and Fletcher sealed off the game before Newcastle came firing back in the second half, but unable to finish. A slightly impressive game to end the month for the Toon.

---

Still sitting in 15th position, and as we have said before, we will say it again, Newcastle have to improve to stay up this year.
