Hi TBH, I've always been a fan of your tactics, most of all because I love playing with smaller teams and on the counter. Currently I'm managing Leeds, and using your
Underdog Direct Counter - Wide 451, and I have some questions and comments, so please I would appreciate your opinion:
]1. Why long shots on sometimes instead on rarely for CMs, long shots tend to be wasteful in FM
Long shots are not wasteful as such but approaches that make players not having any options but to take a longshot are often wasteful.
Personally, I would say that in my saves, about 1/3 of my goals are from what is considered as longshots. 1/3 from set pieces and 1/3 from inside the area after crosses/t-balls/individual mistakes/performances
My point here is that by restricting the players NOT taking longshots might actually force him into taking them too late in the attacks and from a too poor angel
3. right central midfielder is more hardworking and left more creative as you stated, so why have the right midfielder passing set to direct, if he is the one with less creativity and worse passing?
That’s not how the roles are described or how passing works. As we are the underdog and the lesser team, we will mostly face teams pushing up and NOT sitting deep and defend. Here, it’s better to have the creative player further up in the field. So, this is why your most creative player with the best Decision etc. should be the MCL and your 2
nd best MC should be in the MCRight spot.
The hardest passing game to play is “Mixed” as he would have to know when and why to use short or a more direct approach and this is why the player with the best decision should use this, i.e. the Mcleft. Playing a more direct approach is not that hard and I
have never written that the MCR is a poor passer.
2. I think it would be efficient to make DMC to more direct passing and through balls often, and train PPM like come deep to get ball, try killer balls, dictate tempo and long range passes, making him a DLP, would that work?
If facing teams sitting deep, then having creative players in deep positions is crucial, both in FM and in real life so if being a huge favorite, then you need a DPL here, otherwise not. The PPM come deep to get the ball is not called for as he is set to” run from deep = rarely “ anyway
4. In high press version, the roaming is ticked off for right midfielder, why?
Because when playing a higher pressing game, I want to keep the shape better when pressing and too much roaming might make us loose that shape when losing the ball.
5. Would the tactic be efficient also if I put the tempo a bit up?
You can try and it will probably work. Just remember that this is not a highly direct counter approach but a counter approach with some players suing a more direct passing game and here, the tempo is not that high when a counter attack is not on.
6. if I have a winger in my team (classic winger with good crossing) would it be smart to put him on hug touchline and not move into channels, and in that case should I change focus play in low press from middle to mixed?
The focus play is not where on the pitch the ball is played, but through what midfielders that play is channeled through. Here, we want to play more compact and use the middle more, using the area we are flooding. The fullbacks, DCs and DMC are most of all look for the DMC/MC/MC in the buildup but when the winger gets the ball, he will still use his flank
7. Would training PPM plays one-twos disrupt the flow?
I think for the FC, its a great idea but not as a rule for all new players. After all, this is not a tiki-taka approach, its one for lesser teams
