The Manchester United Thread

What striker isn't? Now or going back over the decades. Seriously? They are what they are down to that.
True but he takes it to another level. I'm all for STR going for goal but not when there are better options on and very obvious ones. Could have played in a team simple on more than one occasion, instead of blasting at the defenders legs or losing it trying to do a trick before shooting.

It's not just greed, it's stupidly poor decision making.

It's pretty normal. Just look at any elite striker. All top strikers have huge shot volumes. Harry Kane is a good example. Shoots from everywhere

I know about shot volumes. His shot volume compared to conversion for England is awful.

These were not even good chances, or decent ones. He was in no position to be taking most of these on.

Poor decision making

Hey Scouse, why do you hope Smalling starts on Monday? You said it as if he's a weakness?

I literally couldn't think why though tbh, Liverpool in the final third are based around pace more than anything, so I would understand that comment if Smallingwas a bit of a slouch, but he happens to be one of the quicker centre halves around and has no other outstanding weaknesses. Interested to hear the reasoning behind it.

We've had this discussion before. He's a calamity waiting to happen for me. You disagree and rate him WAY higher than ever I would.

Personally happy every time he's on the pitch for United but for completely different reasons to yourself.

he said it to get a bite like there def is watertight but ill leave it he likes to play games

Dude. Seriously? Wind that **** back in. There was a related discussion on Smalling the England thread. It's a different opinion.

Nothing more. Nothing less.

Fair enough, you're entitled to your opinion. I would've agreed with you 2 years ago.

Antonio Valencia notched an assist with his trade-mark run & cross down that right hand side, and put in a terrific overall performance for his country if Twitter reactions are anything to go by (admittedly didn't watch the game).

So everyone that featured, barring Rooney and Rashford who had limited time, all put in good shifts in their own respects for their countries and all avoided injuries. A little bit of United unity displayed too; Depay, Pogba & Martial had a nice public chat on the pitch right after the final whistle, and the one I liked the most was Lingard tonight going bang into the middle of a heated bunch to try and get at a Slovenian player twice his size because he appeared to of shoved Rashford - very unlike Lingard to get involved in any sort of scuffle like that, but when a fellow academy team-mate gets handled like that, the kid saw red... only for Joe Hart to come and defuse the situation.

Personally, love to see some fire and passion in players (not the extent of Costa though). Great to see it from Lingaard as well, personally I thought he was more of a timid lad but stood up for a mate. I see him more of a squad player at the moment and don't think he should be starting, but that put him up in my books.

Can't believe I'm hearing this from a Liverpool fan who has Lovren and ****** Sakho as options!

But anyway you can think what you like... all I know is he was one of the best CB's in the league last year, only contenders against him were the Leicester pair.

Yeh will be interesting, as we're underdogs and everyone seems to be bigging Klopp/Liverpool for the title, they have the pressure for this game being at home as well.

Personally I fancy our chances, we just got to stay compact and hit them on the counter, if we don't concede sloppy goals I reckon we can win this. Try and get at their dodgy goalkeeper as much as possible to see what he is really made of. If their last game is to go off he literally flaps at everything so he won't be able to cope with Ibra, as well as their CB's I reckon.

The Tottenham centre halfs were/ are the best in the league and it's not even close.

They were great but more because of team ethic than individual performances plus if I remember rightly Vertonghen was injured so that left Aldeweireld with a rotating partner. But I suppose you can say Aldeweireld, Smalling and Leicester pair if you're picky.

That's a given for Mourinho in a big game so you'll get that wish. Not been a game he's played against L'pool when he hasn't set up with everyone deep in his own half, slowing the game completely down, making it bitty and hoping to nick one at some point on the break.

Games between he and Benitez, although compelling drama at the time for everything that surrounded them, were like watching paint dry.

I'm not sure tbh, the Manchester derby was nothing like that. It was really end to end (City playing better in the first half, us with a few attacks too, then got the goal, could've been 2-2 before HT, and really took the game to them in the second half).

Don't be surprised if the ball isn't camped in United's half as much as you're expecting it to, United could really surprise you going forward - our interplay & fluency in the final third has really improved game by game since dropping Fellaini & swapping Mata for Rooney. Your full back's in particular better be fully prepared come Monday, because they'll have either Martial & Shaw/Blind or Rashford/Mkhitaryan & Valencia bombing at them at every given opportunity, trying to feed Ibra. Paul Pogba will be 99.99% confident after that well publicized terrific performance in a French shirt on Monday night, and confidence is half the battle in properly turning up - particularly to a flair player as himself.. and don't forget wee Juan Mata between the lines, carving out chances and popping up in little spaces, as you'd well remember from last March at Anfield ;)

This should be a cracker, can't wait. PLEASE HURRY UP MONDAY.

Sorry lads, but we are going to get spanked on Monday.
