UEFA Champions League Matchday 3
x250.jpg

Chelsea had to play 3rd choice goalkeeper Ross Turnbull for his debut today, as Hilario was unregistered to play, as they just edged out Zurich in this hard fought game.

Chelsea took a while to get going, and had made a number of changes from the team that beat Manchester United, the most notable ones being Kakuta starting and Joe Cole going up front.

Kakuta has certainly shown that he has a hunger for long range shots, and he hit a screamer off the bar early on, but that was as good as it got for Chelsea early on, with Demba Ba and Cole constantly thwarted by a well organised Zurich defence.

In the second half, the Blues pushed on but were stopped time and time again. Alex came off with an hour on the clock with an injury that could rock Chelsea again. But it was the double substitution that this caused that won Chelsea the game. Demba Ba and Joe Cole came off for Nicolas Anelka and Kalou, and the two combined for the winning goal. Nicolas Anelka played the ball forward to Kalou before hitting a swerving shot, which the keeper could only parry to Kalou who passed it into the net.

It was a close game, but after the affairs at AZ Alkmaar, it was a result that Chelsea were more than willing to take.

ALEX AND DEMBA BA OUT FOR 3 WEEKS

Chelsea have paid a price for the game against Zurich, suffering yet another two injuries to key players, with Brazilian centre-back Alex and top goalscorer Demba Ba both suffer knee injuries which lay them off for the next couple of games

phil - yeahh I'm looking to pull some of those players through the system, and kakuta looks a brilliant prospect. prosenik is doing well in the youth at the moment too, and I'm well aware of mancienne's ability! I'll be looking to put him in the first team next season after his loan spell with Wolves.

DROGBA THE LATEST ON THE INJURY LIST

Incredibly Chelsea have suffered another injury today, with Didier Drogba breaking down in training and he is suffering a hip injury. He will be back in action in 2 months.

Chelsea's current injury list:

John Terry (5-11 days)
Alex (1 week)
Ashley Cole (5-7 weeks)
Daniel Sturridge (2 weeks)
Petr Cech (2 weeks)
Branislav Ivanovic (4 days)
Didier Drogba (2 months)
Demba Ba (2 weeks)
Nemanja Matic (1 week)

Wolves 0 - 1 Chelsea
429x.jpg

Ricardo Carvalho won Chelsea the game and put them back top of the table with an early penalty, but Chelsea should have scored more. They put on pressure early on, but Anelka wasted a couple of very good chances.

Kalou then had a goal disallowed after breaking free of Surman, the assistant referee judging that he was offside. Chelsea continued to press but Wolves defended well indeed.

They even managed to get in a few chances before half time, Ebanks-Blake going close before half time, but Hilario was on his best form to stretch across goal and tip wide.

In the second half, Chelsea introduced Fabio Borini and Florent Malouda, but they couldn't ignite any more of a strike into Chelsea's game and the game finished 1-0 after a tense finale.

West Brom 3 - 2 Chelsea

Carling Cup 4th Round
bruntDM2804_468x526.jpg

West Brom produced a stunning display to knock Chelsea out of the League Cup at just the 4th Round stage today in an enthralling encounter.

Chelsea dominated proceedings in the opening quarter, but it was West Brom who took the lead, Robert Koren drilled home after a mistake by Rodwell.

But minutes later the Blues were level when Deco hit a beautiful free-kick well beyond the reach of Scott Carson.

West Brom then took the lead again through a wonder goal from Filipe Teixeira, hitting a sweet 30 yarder into the roof of Hilario's net, a shot which no goalkeeper would have saved.

Chelsea then made a triple substitution, bringing on Joe Cole, Frank Lampard and Claude Makelele. And it was Frank Lampard who produced instantly, scoring a beautiful free-kick seconds after coming on.

And Chelsea piled on the pressure for the last 20 minutes, with Kalou hitting the post, and Carson making 2 extraordinary saves when it looked absolutely clear that Chelsea were going to score.

And with the last kick of the game, Chris Brunt scored a 35 yard free-kick to dump Chelsea out of the first competition that Jose Mourinho won. No doubt Sam Illyroy will be upset with his team, but you cannot take it away from West Brom, it was a truly brilliant performance.

Tottenham vs. Chelsea LIVE
Make sure you tune in for the live game, Tottenham vs. Chelsea, 2nd vs 1st, and a huge derby game. With Chelsea now out of the League Cup, they will be turning their attentions towards the Premier League once more.

Tottenham vs. Chelsea
White Hart Lane, London
FA Premier League, 12:45 KO

12:21: Well what a game that was mid-week, with West Brom really turning up the gas. Chelsea will have to do similarly to prevail against a strong Tottenham team today, this should be a very close match indeed. Stay tight, guys.
12:36: Chelsea's squad coming in a little late here, and there are a few surprises:
Chelsea: Hilario, Bosingwa, Zhirkov, Ivanovic, Carvalho, Makelele, Lampard, Essien, Malouda, J. Cole, Anelka
And they've gone with a 4-3-3 formation then, with two wingers to counter that of Tottenham. It's the first we've seen of this formation this season, so it'll be interesting to see how it works out. Makelele starts in place of Mikel, who is suspended after picking up a yellow card against West Brom.
12:45: And we're under way in North London.
12:57: Crouch has the first chance, and it's a header from a Modric corner, but it goes wide of Hilario's left hand post.
13:12: And Palacios has a goal disallowed, but it was definitely an offside. Crouch plays in Modric who is offside who plays in Palacios, who buries it past Hilario, but the whistle had already gone.
13:17: Lampard and Anelka link up well and Frank finds space, only to have his shot saved by Gomes, for a corner.
13:19: OH absolute howler from Bosingwa! Tottenham counter from the previous corner, and instead of clearing into touch Bosingwa tries to play it across to Ivanovic, but it goes straight to Keane. Hilario is very quick off his line however, and pounces at Keane's feet. Great goalkeeping.
13:30: HALF TIME Tottenham 0 - 0 Chelsea That's it for this half, and very little in terms of clear cut chances, although Keane should have scored. Chelsea finding space on the wings at the moment, but not creating any clear cut chances.
13:45: We're back underway in North London.
13:52: Oh great work from Chelsea. Anelka breaks free down the right and slips Lampard through. He does brilliantly in the box, finding space for Joe Cole who's chipped shot is just punched over by Heurelho Gomes, who is having a great game today.
14:06: Well Deco's now coming on for Frank Lampard, the first change of the game.
14:15: Kalou replaces Nicolas Anelka up front, and Borini's starting to warm up on the bench now too. He comes on for Malouda.
14:21: GOAL Tottenham 0 - 1 Chelsea What a finish! Essien collects the ball from deep and plays in Deco. He chips the ball up to the front, and Salomon Kalou provides a finish of sheer quality, a 25 yard screamer to put Chelsea in front with 10 minutes left.
14:27: Should be 2-0. Zhirkov swings in another brilliant cross and Essien is free in the area, completely free. But he heads it straight at Gomes. Wasted chance.
14:32: FULL TIME Tottenham 0 - 1 Chelsea As important a victory as any for Chelsea. It was a fairly even game, but if anyone had to win it, it probably would have been the Blues, and it's the perfect tonic for a poor performance mid-week.

Substitutes Borini and Salomon Kalou celebrate after Kalou's wonderful winning goal.

Ha yeah, that was a tough game at West Brom, I always had a feeling we were gonna be on the wrong end of a cupset, but that's life. There's always next year (hopefully) and at least we played well, they're goals were all unstoppable.
I'd love to comment it, I'll have a look at it soon. I've just been engrossed in this game, and coursework which is why I've been unable to comment.
and leedsunited, yeah Chelsea are a good team to be, They're a challenge in a lot of ways, and none more so than this game for me, because of the amount of injuries I've picked up. It really is bizarre, ive played a number of Chelsea games, and never had this many injuries, but you just have to get on with it.
do you have a link for your preston story? I'd like to read it.
cheers, samillyroy

Champions League Matchday 4
Didier-Drogba-Nicolas-Anelka-Joy-Porto-Champs_2389438.jpg

Chelsea dominated from start to finish in Zurich tonight, and ended up running out comfortable victors. But there were some unnecessary nervy moments, thanks to some poor refereeing.

Chelsea pressed from the off, playing in their white and black strip, and forced the Zurich goalkeeper into making a number of impressive saves, and spread the play well. But they looked nervous defensively, and relied on goalkeeper Petr Cech, who started his first game following his 4 week injury, to bail them out on a number of occassions.

And Chelsea should have been one goal ahead, when Zhirkov played a superb ball into the six-yard box where Joe Cole headed it in, but the linesman mistakenly called it offside.

Chelsea were to be avenged shortly afterwards however, when Nicolas Anelka, who had previously missed a number of very good opportunities, bulletted a header into the roof of the Zurich goal from a Kalou cross to make it 1-0.

And Chelsea's advantage was doubled shortly after the break when Nicolas Anelka held the ball up before sending Essien through to score his first of the season.

Chelsea then unfortunately conceded, when a stray cross flicked off Alex's back and past an otherwise faultless Cech.

From that moment, Chelsea looked nervy, and unsure of whether to push on and grab another, and Zurich pounced a number of times, but Cech was there to make some vital saves.

Then Chelsea were punished by the officials again, as substitute Florent Malouda had a goal disallowed for offside, after a superbly timed cross from Bosingwa.

But fortunately, Chelsea won a penalty 5 minutes later, and Michael Ballack stepped up to smash home, and give Chelsea another 3 points for the Champions League, meaning they only need 1 more win from the last 2 games to progress.

Chelsea 2 - 1 West Ham United
610x.jpg

John Terry and Frank Lampard celebrate at the end of this engrossing London derby, which Chelsea just managed to edge.

They were given an opportunity early on in the game to score, when Kalou was tripped after some great approach work. Anelka converted the penalty to score his second in two games, and Chelsea started to look confident.

But West Ham have some pace and class in their ranks, and it started to show, as Carlton Cole started bossing the front line a bit, and with John Terry playing his first game in over 2 months, you sensed they could get something from it.

And in the second half, it was the captain John Terry who made the mistake that gave West Ham their equaliser. He lost posession in West Ham's half, and Kieran Dyer countered, running free before cleverly dropping the ball back to Luis Jimenez to tuck home the easiest of finishes.

And it was probably what they deserved, but then the substitutions began. Demba Ba came on for Chelsea (his first game in 3 weeks), and Kalou pulled out left. He tore Behrami apart time and again, and his beautiful chip over the West Ham back line was then headed expertly by Ba for his 7th of the season, and the winner for this game; a very important winner.

Brilliant to see three players back from long term injuries, but most importantly the captain; John Terry.

Hull City 1 - 2 Chelsea
demba-ba-300x221.jpg

Demba Ba will be stealing all the headlines today as he scored twice to give Chelsea a win against struggling Hull. But again questions will be asked about the nature of the win.

Chelsea dominated the game from start to finish, but as in a number of games, didn't take their chances, whereas when Hull got their opportunity they took it.

Essien gave Chelsea their first chance with a brilliant through ball to find Ba, and he dinked it over the keeper, only to see it agonisingly hit the woodwork, and bounce clear. Lampard also wasted a number of good chances from range, after brilliant build up play.

Chelsea started this game with the same line-up as they ended the West Ham game, with Anelka wide right, Malouda wide left and Demba Ba up front, and Anelka embraced his new role, swinging in a fantastic ball from out wide, for Demba Ba to nip in and head home.

And he doubled the advantage after half time when Anelka once again played him, but this time he hit a belter on the turn right into the roof of the net. He is now Chelsea's top goalscorer in all competitions with 9 goals, despite being injured for 3 weeks.

But minutes later, Chelsea got complacent, and a fantastic Andy Dawson free kick was headed home by Geovanni to put Hull in with a shout.

And that kept Chelsea wary for the rest of the game, right into injury time as Hull pushed for a late equaliser. Altidore wasted a brilliant opportunity, going one-on-one with Cech, only to see his tame shot parried away, and Chelsea got the three points.

That's now 6 wins from 6, and Chelsea will hope to push on in the next couple of matches, going into the December month.

Yeah youre results are looking better and I too have updated mine very recently and have added a poll!:D

Good luck mate great results considering all the injuries you have.
How are the finances holding up?
I haemorrhaged cash in my 1st 3 seasons in my game on patch 10.1 and was £80m in debt at the end of the 1st season.
Great story and lay out too!

Live Text Commentary

19:10: Chelsea are of course unbeaten in the Champions League, in a group that they were expected to dominate. The only real scare was that of AZ Alkmaar, who completed a magnificent comeback to thwart Chelsea. That is ironically their only point of the campaign. We're live today for this game, as Chelsea only need this win to qualify for the knock-out rounds in February.
19:17: We've got round-ups of all the other Champions League games around Europe too, in this penultimate matchday.
19:27: Chelsea's squad comes in today, and they're playing a 4-1-2-1-2 formation today, as opposed to the 4-3-3 they've played the last couple of games. We'll see how that goes:
Chelsea: Cech, Bosingwa, Zhirkov, Terry, Ivanovic, Mikel, Lampard, Essien, Deco, Ba, Anelka
19:36: Ba of course was fantastic in that game against Hull, so Chelsea will be hoping he can come up trumps again today. They need to do a professional job here today.
19:45: We're under way.
19:57: Chelsea create the first chance of the game, as Bosingwa sends Ba into space down the right hand side, but he shoots straight at the keeper, and Anelka can't get to the rebound.
20:03: GOAL Sporting CP 1 - 0 Chelsea And they've gone a goal down, and it's from a corner. The ball is swung in brilliantly by Fernandez and Liedson heads into the corner of the net for his sixth of the campaign.
20:12: Chelsea push for the equaliser and win a corner. Lampard's cross is headed out and Zhirkov hits it full on the volley, but Tiago makes a magnificent save.
20:23: John Terry heads a corner from Deco, but he just can't get the power under it.
20:31: HALF TIME Sporting CP 1 - 0 Chelsea Chelsea short of ideas here, and need to ignite some sort of spark into their game in the second half.
20:45: Chelsea come out to start the second half, and Malouda is coming on for Deco who has been dissapointing up top for Chelsea.
20:53: GOAL Sporting CP 1 - 1 Chelsea And the substitute does wonders. Anelka moves out wide right, where he seems to be more comfortable, as Essien plays a great ball to Malouda on the counter-attack. Malouda pulls out to the by-line before spinning his man and playing a ball into the box, where Anelka is there to tuck into the back of the net. That's his third in the Champions League this season.
20:56: On second viewing, it was actually quite a lucky goal, his shot took a deflection off the defender which wrong-footed Tiago, who could only just get one hand on it.
20:58: Ohh Malouda should have put Chelsea ahead. Mikel plays a brilliant ball through to him, and he is one on one with the keeper but he scuffs his shot wide. Great opportunity.
21:08: Bosingwa swings a great ball into the box and Ba hits it very well indeed, but Tiago leaps across the goal to push it out for a corner.
21:20: Joe Cole and Michael Ballack replace the dissapointing Ba and Frank Lampard.
21:32: Liedson has a great chance to win the game in the dying seconds, going one on one with Cech, but he hits it chest height straight at Cech. Too easy.
21:33: FULL TIME Sporting CP 1 - 1 Chelsea A good result for Chelsea in the end that means they qualify for the next round of the Champions League. A draw against AZ Alkmaar at Stamford Bridge in a fortnight will win the game, as Zurich are two points behind Chelsea. If teams are level on points of course, the positioning will be decided on head-to-head results and Chelsea won home and away against Zurich, so it looks good for Chelsea.
Arsenal's win ensures that they qualify from the group stages along with Juventus and Shakhtar Donetsk and Lyon also qualify. Liverpool qualified in the last matchday, and Real Madrid are the other team to be through to the knockouts. That's it from me, and we'll see you for the final game against AZ Alkmaar.
newsmlmmd.fcf5e3de75cd5f9673251260cb14ce80.1a13b.jpg

Chelsea played in their new away kit today, and it was Anelka who scored the equaliser after a tough game in Lisbon.

They didn't actually play in there away kit though lol! Doing well still mate please give my story a bump thanks

yeah I'll be fair, the performances haven't been great, I need to sort out our defence a bit, because we seem to be weak at balls in the box, we've conceded goals in the last 3 games, despite having Petr Cech and John Terry back! but I've gotta give the team credit cos it's been a rough patch, I've struggled to put together the same team game after game.
leedsunited - thanks mate I'll be having a look at yours as soon as :) just watching the African Cup of Nations at the moment.
oakesypvfc - i'll be there, hopefully you're getting closer to promotion now
zidave - thanks mate :) don't think you've commented on this story before so welcome, glad you like the story as much as I've enjoyed writing it. its been very frustrating at times with injuries, but it would be boring if we won every single game, right?
Yeah finance wise we're pretty sound. I tried not to spend too much money, because I didn't feel the team needed much revamping, and they've proved that to me so far. I've just bought my last signing in Sanogo for the season and that leaves me with 14m, and 121k a week for wages, so we're holding up well on that front. Most of my transfer money has gone on young players, and they're doing fantastically well in the Under-18s, I'll post a page on my youth team in the new year (on my game that is).

keep reading guys, more games to come :)

Chelsea 3 - 1 Stoke
429x.jpg

Chelsea overcame in-form Stoke in impressive manner this Sunday evening, but the game left manager Sam Illyroy with something to think about defensively again.

The Blues started as they meant to go on with Joe Cole at the tip of a diamond formation, playing in Anelka who's parried shot came to Essien who fired into the roof of the net. It was his first Premiership goal of the season.

And it wasn't long before they grabbed a second goal, this time through top goalscorer Demba Ba with his tenth of the season. Joe Cole collected the ball in the middle of the pitch, before evading a tackle and playing in Ba. He held off his defender with a great show of strenth before finishing emphatically to give Chelsea 2 goal lead.

But as in the Hull game before, Chelsea then undid all that hard work from a set piece. Liam Lawrence's great corner was tucked away by an unmarked James Beattie, and this is becoming a worrying trend.

After the second half, Nemanja Matic replaced Frank Lampard, and took the corner which gave Chelsea a third of the season, with Carvalho tucking the header past keeper Thomas Sorenson.

It was Matic's debut, and he'll be hoping for a few more games after picking up the injury that's seen him out of the first couple of months at his new team. Chelsea picked up another 3 points and that's 7 wins in a row now.

And it was encouraging news over in Manchester for Chelsea, as Manchester United and Manchester City draw in the derby. Wes Brown gave United a lead, but Robinho equalled moments later, and the result ensures Chelsea are 4 points clear at the top of the table going into December.
