Chelsea 1 - 0 FC Zurich
UEFA Champions League Matchday 3

UEFA Champions League Matchday 3

Chelsea had to play 3rd choice goalkeeper Ross Turnbull for his debut today, as Hilario was unregistered to play, as they just edged out Zurich in this hard fought game.
Chelsea took a while to get going, and had made a number of changes from the team that beat Manchester United, the most notable ones being Kakuta starting and Joe Cole going up front.
Kakuta has certainly shown that he has a hunger for long range shots, and he hit a screamer off the bar early on, but that was as good as it got for Chelsea early on, with Demba Ba and Cole constantly thwarted by a well organised Zurich defence.
In the second half, the Blues pushed on but were stopped time and time again. Alex came off with an hour on the clock with an injury that could rock Chelsea again. But it was the double substitution that this caused that won Chelsea the game. Demba Ba and Joe Cole came off for Nicolas Anelka and Kalou, and the two combined for the winning goal. Nicolas Anelka played the ball forward to Kalou before hitting a swerving shot, which the keeper could only parry to Kalou who passed it into the net.
It was a close game, but after the affairs at AZ Alkmaar, it was a result that Chelsea were more than willing to take.
ALEX AND DEMBA BA OUT FOR 3 WEEKS
Chelsea have paid a price for the game against Zurich, suffering yet another two injuries to key players, with Brazilian centre-back Alex and top goalscorer Demba Ba both suffer knee injuries which lay them off for the next couple of games
phil - yeahh I'm looking to pull some of those players through the system, and kakuta looks a brilliant prospect. prosenik is doing well in the youth at the moment too, and I'm well aware of mancienne's ability! I'll be looking to put him in the first team next season after his loan spell with Wolves.
DROGBA THE LATEST ON THE INJURY LIST
Incredibly Chelsea have suffered another injury today, with Didier Drogba breaking down in training and he is suffering a hip injury. He will be back in action in 2 months.
Chelsea's current injury list:
John Terry (5-11 days)
Alex (1 week)
Ashley Cole (5-7 weeks)
Daniel Sturridge (2 weeks)
Petr Cech (2 weeks)
Branislav Ivanovic (4 days)
Didier Drogba (2 months)
Demba Ba (2 weeks)
Nemanja Matic (1 week)
