May for Flamengo was not kind to them as they had only one win in five Campeonato Brasileiro matches. But in Copa do Brasil, the club managed to advance to the Third Round as they will face Central.

Campeonato Brasileiro

In this Competition, Flamengo finds themselves in 10th place with a 1-3-1 record. Surprisingly, Palmeiras is in the relegation zone as they are still looking for their first win of the season.

Copa do Brasil

Flamengo advanced to the Third Round of the Competition after defeating Chapecoense 8-3 on aggregate. They will face against Central and will play the 1st leg in July.

June will only feature Campeonato Brasileiro matches. During this month, they will face three big clubs in Gremio, Santos, and their Fla-Flu rivals Fluminense. Also since the Copa America Centenario will be played in June, Flamengo will be missing plenty of their first team starters.

With the lost of Paolo Guerrero, Juan Cazares, Oscar Romero to Copa America and the injury to Marcio Araujo and Everton to injury, we were undermanned in terms of First Team starter. Also with the ejection of Jonas, we were a man down. I have to say that we were lucky to come away with the win tonight.

The only goal of the game was by Emerson Sheik after a close range finish which was timed impeccably. Jonas received the red card after a persisting foul.

Flamengo will host Gremio next in Campeonato Brasileiro match.​

Another game where we ended the game with less than 11 players. This time 2 players were ejected from the game. We need to cut down in our tackling as games like these where we dominate but don't win.

Talisca scored the first goal of the game after a close range finish which was timed impeccably. Yuri Mamute tied the game after taking advantage of Marcelo's error to score a well timed finish from close range. Recife got his 2nd yellow after bad tackle. Wellington Silva got his 2nd yellow after persisting fouling.

Flamengo will go to Curitiba to face Coritiba in a Campeonato Brasileiro match.​

I'm happy with this win. With players from the last game suspended and Jonas returned to action, this was great game as we cut down in our fouling and kept their goalkeeper busy.

Diego Morales scored the first goal of the game after a well timed finish from close range. Marcelo made it 2-0 after a good finish from close range. Rafhael Lucas cut the lead to one after a strike on net. Joao Paulo got his 2nd yellow of the game after persisting fouling.

Flamengo will host Figueirense in a Campeonato Brasileiro match.​

Finally an easy win. Everything went to plan and with this win, we jump way up to 4th place in the standing. Hopefully after this game, some of our players that were in Copa America, will return to us for the next game.

What a disappointing match. We dominated the match but couldn't get the ball in. One bad counter attack was all they need to beat us. We need to back on track if we want to make it to Copa Libertadores.

The only goal of the game was by Fred after taking advantage of Wellington Silva's error to score a well timed finish from close range.

This was a big win for us. We have to thank Goias as they scored for us to win. Also in this game, we got Juan Cazares, Paolo Guerrero, and Oscar Romero back after their Copa America run.

The first goal of the game was by an own goal by Alex Alves. Oscar Romero sealed the deal after taking advantage of Renan's error to score a deftly executed finish.

Flamengo will head to Estadio Nilton Santos to face their rivals Botafogo in a Campeonato Brasileiro match.​

Flamengo's June 2016 Review

June was an fairly successful month for Flamengo as they went 4-1-1 in the league. Winning big games against Santos and Goias was vital for their success in June. The only down side was their loss to their rivals 1-0, where they dominated the match but was unable to score.

At the end of June, Flamengo is in 8th place, tied with Gremio. Now that Palmeiras started to win some games, the other big club that is in the relegation zone is Botafogo, who was relegated in 2014.

Argentina wins Copa America Centenario

Argentina has won their 1st international competition since 1993 and their first Copa America title since 1993 after they defeated Colombia 4-0. With this win, they tie Uruguay with the most Copa America wins. This Copa America was a special edition as it celebrates the 100th anniversary of the competition. This edition includes all ten South American countries with six North American countries.

In their campaign, Argentina finished in first place in Group A with all three wins. They met Venezuela and defeated them 3-1. In Semifinals, they easily beat Chile 4-1 before heading to the finals where they beat Colombia 4-0. Messi won Copa America Player of the Tournament.

Maicon joined Flamengo on Free Transfer after three seasons with Roma. He will be a great addition after the departure of Luiz Antonio to West Ham. Maicon is an experience Rightback that can help the club defensively. With his experience with continental football, he can help Flamengo with Copa Libertadores if they can qualify next year. He is a very intelligent player that can be a thorn to defender with movement off the ball.

Cristian Zapata is another big addition to the defensive core for Flamengo. With Cesar Martins returning to Benfica after his loan, our defensive side was going to be weak. But Zapata will hopefully fill that void. Joining his former AC Milan teammate Alex, I can hope that they form good partnership. Zapata is fairly good in the air and can be a leading defender in Campeonato Brasileiro.

Sebastian Palacios joined Flamengo on Free Transfer after spending a season at Boca Juniors. The striker that can also play the wing can very fast and can run for a long time without needing to rest. Even though his ability to header the ball isn't his strong point, his pace and vision can compensate for that. His experience with the Argentine league will be a plus for toughness and most likely can play under pressure.

Kayke

Kayke was one of the players that did not leave on club on the Transfer Window but a couple of weeks before. Kayke was unhappy with his playing time with the club after being the number 2 striker after the in-form Paolo Guerrero. He was sold to Sao Paulo for £225K.

Luiz Antonio

Luiz Antonio was a long time Flamengo player that started his career with the club in 2007. It was sad to see him go but West Ham gave an offer that was hard to say no. Hopefully that one day, Luiz Antoino will return to the club that he played for almost a decade.

Ederson

Ederson was sold to Leicester City for £525K. He was sold because Flamengo was deep with midfielders and Ederson didn't have any proper game time. Selling him was the better choice for both parties.

Other players were sold to different clubs like Fiorentina bought 2 players and many others were loaned.

The International Transfer window will close on July 19th but the Domestic transfers will continue until September 15th. Flamengo made add more players in the future so more updates may come.​

Beating your rivals is good. Beating your rivals to set in the relegation zone is better. Beating your rivals to the point the they had to sack their manager is even better. The red card by Airton is a key factor to the game that help us win.

We handed Cruzeiro their first lost of the season. It was a very close match as the goals were going back and forth. This game was also the debut of all new signing with Maicon, Cristian Zapata, and Sebastian Palacios all coming from the bench to play.

Michel Bastos scored the first goal of the game after a powerful effort from 25 metres. Marcio Araujo tied the game with a placed shot. Marcelo gave Flamengo their first lead after a well timed finish from close range. Michel Basto got his 2nd as Cruzeiro tied the game after he took advantage of Juan Cazares mistake to score a powerful effort. Paolo Guerrero scored the game winner after taking advantage of Manoel's error to score a shot which owed an assist to the post.

Flamengo will host the last year champions Corinthians in a Campeonato Brasileiro match.​

Flamengo as signed the Defensive Midfielder Rene Junior for £2.8 million from Chinese Super League's Guangzhou Hengda. The 26-year old player spent the last two years in China, has experience with the Brazilian League as he played for Santos before leaving. The midfielder will be competing with Jonas and Recife for the DM spot. He possess a fair amount of speed and can be a leading player in this division.

Rafinha was sold to Vitória Futebol Clube from Portugal for £475K. The winger was not featured in Flamengo matches throughout the season and selling the player was the best choice.

What a terrible loss. We were at home and the team decided not to play tonight. It was a game that we need to win. Maicon started in his first game and Rene Junior debuted as a sub.

Bruno Henrique scored the first goal of the game after taking advantge of Macelo's error to score a well timed close range finish. Malcom made it 2-0 after a deftly executed finish. Uendel got the automatic red after a professional foul. Hector Canteros scored a freekick goal to the cut the lead.

Flamengo will host Central in the 1st leg of the Third Round of Copa do Brasil.​

Olympic Squad Announced

Ronaldinho as announced the 18 players that will represent their nation as they will play in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. It was a hard decision by the manager to select which players were good enough to play. With the selection of 18 instead of the usual 23, many player were cut from the team. Also the Olympics allow 3 overage players in the squad.

"I'm happy to announced the team for Rio" said Ronaldinho "I believe that this squad which we competitive enough to go far. The people from Brazil will be cheering for us to win and hopefully they will help us motivate us."

The 18 man roster are:

Brazil will play 3 friendlies games before their Olympic 2016 debut. First against Denmark, Cameroon, and Portugal.

This match was much more difficult than it looked. We were very undisciplined and the yellows also turned into reds. Maicon got his 1st man of the match and Paolo Guerrero got his 12 goal in all competition this season. With this win, we are tied for 2nd with our interstate rivals Atletico Mineiro but a distant 8 points behind 1st which is our Fla-flu rivals Fluminense.

Diego Morales scored the first goal of the game after a tidy finish from 14 metres. Paolo Guerrero scored the insurance goal after a towering header from close range.

Flamengo willhead to Caruaru to face Central for the 2nd leg of the Third Round of Copa do Brasil.​

Our 3-0 win in the first leg helped us advance to the Fourth Round of Copa do Brasil. This game was was really to us the new players that were brought in during the transfer window and they played well including a goal by Palacios.

Sebastian Palacios scored the first goal of the game after a close range finish which was timed impeccably. Braga tied the game after an accurate finish. Izaias got his 2nd yellow of the game and was ejected after his persistent fouling.

Flamengo will head to Belo Horizonte to face their Interstate rivals Atletico Mineiro in a Campeonato Brasileiro match.​
