SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER

Brighton 3-1 Notts County. The start of September-a perfect start. Ben Hutchinson proving his doubters wrong by scoring a brace. He then layed an assist for Andrew Crofts. Good performance and a result which puts us 2nd in the Npower League 1 table.

"So it's finalised. Good you're starting tommorow," I was on the phone. I had him on loan for 9 games last season. Yes it's Nikki Ahamed. He has been recently released by Chelsea and I thrived on the chance to get him for free. Quality defender.

First defeat of the season. 3-2 to Charlton Athletic. Despite all our hard effort we couldn't find a way through. Our goalscorers were Gary Dicker and James Tunnicliffe. Peter Brezovan saved a penalty.

Back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over MK Dons. Craig Davies, a revelation since his return opened the scoring. Their equaliser was a sloppy goal.
"How the **** did you let him skin you that easily? You do that again and I'll sub you!!"
We got a penalty shortly after which defender Tommy Elphick duly converted with ease.

A very enthralling game against Bristol Rovers ended with both sides scoring two goals and both sides taking one point each. Glenn Murray and Craig Davies scored for us. Murrays goal was a typical center-forwards goal-a tap in which was a contrast to Davies's goal which came after a fabulous solo run.

"F*****g ****!! You blimmin' lost 3-0 to Oldham Athletic. Where was the defence? What were you doing? You f*****g fell asleep. Fools. Morons. You're all going to come to the training pitch tommorw and defend for the whole time!!! You played like Stockport today!!"
You can guess the rest.

"Good result," I told the lads after a solid 1-1 draw against Norwich City. A better game after that terrible one a week ago.

Peterborough United were our next victims as we finished them off 2-1. Glenn Murray and Ben Hutchinson, both building up a great partnership scored the goals.

I was shocked when we beat the Eagles 2-0. Crystal Palace didn't stand a chance. Hutchinson scored a 25 yard screamer whereas Craig Davies scored a more technical flick past Julian Speroni.

Walshall beat us 2-0. F*****g disgrace. Enough said.

Tommy Elphick and Glenn Murray both scored two good headers as we sent Rotherham United crashing 2-1. It was a good end to a decent month. Roll on November...

Looks like your doing quite well. :)

I'll update tommorow. :)

NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER

Brighton 2-1 Rushden: Glenn Murray and Tommy Elphick. A good, solid victory. And Mr Elphick got a rare pay bonus for scoring. Time to get rid of that clause I think. A few days later we won again-same scoreline but this time against Leyton Orient with goals from James Tunniciffe and Ben Hutchinson.

Colchester United 7-1 Brighton: Ben Hutchinson. Absoulute disgrace. You don't want to hear my team talk. I can tell you though, it was pretty long. Joe Kinnear would be proud.

"Good comeback," "Glenn great performance today," congratulating the players after a very dominant performance against Southend United. The match ended 3-1 with Glenn Murray grabbing himself a brace and Andrew Crofts getting his name on the scoresheet.

Another double from Glenn Murray as we dumped MK Dons out of the FA Cup with a dramatic 3-2 win. Ben Hutchinson scored the winner three minutes from time. Underachieving Swindon Town was the latest team to face our wrath after captain Gary Dicker netted a screamer.

Craig Davies managed to get himself back on the scoresheet as we beat Rochdale 1-0.
"Not good enough. I really expected better especially after our last results. It simply was poor,"
My reaction during the aftermatch of a goaless draw against Carlisle. Sheffield Wednesday beat us 2-1, Ben Hutchinson scoring our goal. Yeovil Town then held us to a 3-3 draw. Glenn Murray got two goals and Ben Hutchinson scored the other. Our last game of 2009 ended badly. A 2-1 defeat to Hartlepool, Glenn Murray scored our goal. A poor run of results...will it ever stop?

WOW. 7-1 vs Colchester.

Not bad apart from that, where you in league?

JANUARY, FEBRUARY AND MARCH

We left the Stadium of Light empty handed leaking in five goals and scoring a grand total of zero. Yes it finished 5-0 to them as we were knocked out of the FA Cup in the 3rd Round. On a more positive note we beat Stockport 2-1. Ben Hutchinson scoring both goals. However we were defeated again to Exeter-up til now I have only beaten them once in my managerial career. They always seem to win-a bit like Germany vs England.

Glenn Murray salvaged a point for us against Gillingham. Our play-off hopes were boosted as we beat Leicester City 3-2. Inigo Calderon put in a man of the match performance as our defensive midfielder, also netting a goal. Glenn Murray got himself two goals too-fair play to him.

Another piece of transfer business was concluded. We had just signed Saleh Al-Suwaylem, Saudi Arabian from Al Shakab. One of my scouts scouting Asia told me about him. Being 18 years old I was able to snap him up on an approach to sign. The compensation fee could rise in the near future. Hopefully he has a bright future.

"Very dissapointing. We had no shape or desire out there. The passing was too wayward and there was far too many mistakes. Everyone will report to training at 7am tommorow or you'll be benched for the rest of the season!!" This was following a poor 3-1 defeat to Notts County. Ben Hutchinson scored for us.

"You're having a great season Glenn!" credit given when credit deserved. Glenn Murray got another double as we beat promotion rivals Charlton Athletic at home. The match finished 2-1 and our new signing made his debut of the bench.

The fans were booing me as we entered the tunnel during the aftermath of a 0-0 game at home to Oldham Athletic. Saleh recieved the man of the match award but it was a terrible game.

"What in tarnations was that?? 5-1. Norwich. You know Southend flippin' United have overtaken us. The defense was uber ****! Why the f**k are you trying skills? When have I ever told you to use skills you *****? We better improve or we won't get back into the playoffs. Go home!!" 5-1 to Norwich. Glenn Murray scored. Enough said.

"You obviously haven't learnt your lesson then," MK Dons beat us 3-1. Dean *** scored. With Bristol Rovers coming up things were looking bleak. But we pulled it off. A 2-0 win courtesy of goals from Inigo Calderon and Glenn Murray.

"This is ridiculous," the chairman whispered in my ear as I was set to drive home. He wasn't impressed. Heck he even mentioned "getting a replacement". We lost 2-0 to Crystal Palace. Not looking good.

Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 Peterborough. Ben Hutchinson wonder goal from 30 yards and an equally impressve free kick from Jamie Smith. Overall good result.
Three days later however the chairman lost the plot...
"You idiot!! You made us lose to 3-0 to Walshall!!"
"But Mr Knight," he cut me short
"Not Mr Knight anymore. I'm fed up of your excuses. I should have done this a long time ago," he reached out for a cup and threw it straight at me. It hit my nose and caused severe bleeding. I was rushed to hospital.

The doctors stopped the bleeding and gave me sticthes. They should I should be back for our next game but I have to visit the club doctor regularly. Meanwhile Mr Knight relinquished his role as chairman after the incident and could spend some time in prison. Tony Bloom has taken over as chairman.

Glenn Murray and Andrew Crofts scored the goals to give us a 2-1 win against Colchester United. However James Tunnicliffe brought the only moment of joy against Rotherham-our goal in a 5-1 defeat. With only seven league games left the question is will we get that elusive play-off spot? I hope so...

APRIL AND MAY

More dropped points. This time to Leyton Orient-a 2-1 defeat. Gary Dicker scored our goal. He proved today why he is captain with a determined performance. It was just a shame the rest of the team didn't take to his example.
In our next game Gary scored again. This time we managed to take a point. The final score finished 1-1 against Rochdale. This result relegates them.

Play off rivals Southend finished the day in the last play off spot after they got the three points against us. This result puts us into 7th. A poor 1-0 defeat. Our luck was against us again. We could only draw 1-1 with Swindon. They sold Charlie Austin so were lacking in fire power yet it finished 1-1. James Tunnicliffe netted.

Finally a win..1-0 against Carlisle. Dean *** scored a vital goal. This put us ahead of Southend by one point. Notts County were also a point behind.

It's going to the final day! Glenn Murray was the pick of the players as we beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-1. Murray got himself a hattrick. But with both Southend and Notts County winning it will go down to the final day.

"Go on Dean...YESS!! YESSSSSS!!" a giant roar erupted in the stadium after Dean *** had put us on level terms against Yeovil Town. Notts County were drawing so as it stood we would finsish ahead of them but due to Southend winning they were ahead of us. I was hoping for Sheffield Wednesday to score.
"Gaffer," it was my assistant
"Not now Mauricio,"
"But gaffer this is important news. Marcus Tudgay has scored for Sheffield Wednesday!!"
"WOOOOHOOOOO!!" everybody in the Brighton stand were jumping up and down celebrating. But we still had a game on here.

The final whistle here. Our game finished 1-1. There was still a few minutes remaining in the Southend game. Notts County only managed a draw so they are out of the contest. We were in the dressing room listening to Soccer Saturday.
"Only a few seconds remain at Hillsborough...its all over!! Southend have failed to win so it is Richard Barnes Brighton side that sneak the last play off spot."
Spot on Jeff. Sneaked. Celebrations begun...but my mind was on winning the play off. Its that time of year again...

You still have Tarrico as your assistant. :O

At least you got in play-off's, go you! :D

PLAY OFF SEMI FINAL 1ST LEG

"This is our chance, our dream. We are 180 minutes away from Wembley. This is what we worked on all season...but we have to overcome Colchester. Don't panic-there are two legs. Lets get a clean sheet and take the game to them. Lets show them we are better than them!!" my team talk prior to our playoff semi final 1st leg. It was at home-we can't afford to concede.

It was a positive start. Our two up front-Nicky Forster and Glenn Murray were working well. And after 10 minutes are first chance came.
"Go on Dean take him on," he did. The cross was blocked. It came out to Craig Davies.
"Ohhh WHAT A GOAL!!!" the entire Withdean Stadium erupted as we were celebrating our goal. What a scorcher!!

"Well played Alan," the last five minutes. I brought on the veterans. Alan Navarro, Jamie Cureton and Inigo Calderon. I needed them to keep calm. We changed our formation from 4-4-2 now to 4-5-1. And it worked...

"Congratulations lads. But its only half the job done,"
The match was televised by live Sky cameras and I had to do an interview with them.
"What was the message you told your players after the game?"
"I told them that I was proud but also that it is only half time. I brought on the three most experienced players to keep everything calm and they did brilliantly. We played a solid, controlled passing game and I was pleased with what I saw."
"After Avram Grant was recently sacked as West Ham manager the bookmakers and newspapers are lining you up as the favourite to take over. Are you interested?"
"West Ham...no," that concluded it. 90 minutes away from Wembley...

Good update there.

I've just uploaded the game so I'll try and get a big update in before I go out. :)

PLAYOFF SEMI FINAL 2ND LEG

"We are 90 minutes away from Wembley," it was that time of year again. Colchester vs Brighton. We were leading 1-0 from the first leg. But disaster struck...inside three minutes they scored.
"F*****g ****!! What was that?" my question remained unanswered for another 87 minutes.

"Extra time. Time for a change. Jamie you're coming on. Dean you're off. Work as a team. They could have easily won it by now. Everyone defend...we'll either win it on the counter or we'll take it to penalties..." it was the latter.

The first two from each side converted their spot kick with ease. Until....they missed their third one. Glenn Murray had the chance to put us ahead in the shootout.
"Get in!" bottom corner.
They scored their next one. Craig Davies stood up.
"Come on Craig!!" he missed. Blazed over the top.
"NOOOO!!"
They went ahead but Gary Dicker scored his. I always knew he would score his. The same with the next two players. But then they missed another spot kick. Liam Dickinson could have won it for us. But his was saved.
Anybody remember Dejan Stefanovic, once of Portsmouth. Now captain of Colchester. Well his spot kick was expertly saved by Peter Brezovan. It was down to Ben Hutchinson to net the winning penalty. Time stood still.
The high pitched shreep of the whistle blew.
"YEEEEESSSS. TOP CORNER!!"
"WE'RE GOING TO WEMBLEY!!"
They missed three penalties we missed two. We won 6-5!!

Note this down. May 21st 2011. Wembley. Brighton vs Sheffield Wednesday...
