It was a great end to the month as we saw off Leicester on the final day of the season to give us a good chance of qualifying for European Football next season. However after the FA Cup final it was confirmed that we.....

2015/16 End of Season Review

End of Season Squad Stats

View attachment 420367

Player of the Year - Tom Ince

View attachment 420363

Tom had a fantastic year for Middlesbrough and I was disappointed he didn't make the preliminary squad for the 2016 European Championships.

Young Player of the Year - Dane Burke

View attachment 420362

Dane stops Jerome Sinclair from winning it for a third successive year and it was mainly down to his second half of the season performances which led to Ben Gibson having to settle for a place on the bench.

Result of the Season

View attachment 420360

The 4-0 demolition of Manchester United in February has to be the winner as it was very unexpected and United hadn't lost a game in all competitions since October 2015!

League

A very good year for us as we met one of my managerial targets by qualifying for European football in our second season in the Premier League!

Capital One Cup

Once again we were very disappointing in the Capital One Cup and went out in the Fourth Round. Hopefully we can make it to at least the semi-finals in the 2016/17 season.

Another domestic competition we exited at the Fourth Round. I would love to win it within the next two seasons.

2015/16 English Season Review

Premier League

View attachment 420342

Arsenal won the league title for the first time since 2004 over Chelsea who finished in second place. Manchester United and Manchester City will join them in the Champions League. Stoke, Newcastle and Middlesbrough will represent England in the Europa League. At the other end of the table it was bad news for West Ham, Brighton and Crystal Palace as they were relegated to the SkyBet Championship.

SkyBet Championship

View attachment 420341

Fulham and QPR received automatic promotion into the Premier League as they finished in 1st and 2nd position respectively. Joining them in the Premier League are Hull as they won at Wembley in the Play-Off final. Blackpool, Bolton and Preston will compete in SkyBet League One next season after being relegated.

SkyBet League One

View attachment 420340

Sheffield United and Tranmere achieved automatic promotion to the SkyBet Championship and will be joined by Shrewsbury, who won in the play-off final. Chesterfield, Gillingham, Coventry and Dagenham and Redbridge were relegated after a poor 2015/16 season.

SkyBet League Two

View attachment 420339

Wycombe, Northampton and Scunthorpe have boosted their finances by getting promoted to SkyBet League One and Southend will have made slightly more money after getting promoted via the play-offs. Luton and Bury were relegated from the Football League and Bury will compete in non-league for the first time in their history.

FA Cup

View attachment 420338

Chelsea won the FA Cup for the second successive season after beating Newcastle 3-1 in the final at Wembley.

Capital One Cup

Manchester United won their first trophy under Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer after beating Chelsea in the final.

2016/17 Pre-Season Update

Transfers

View attachment 420175

Adil Nabi

View attachment 420170

Adil joins for a very small fee compared to what I think he is able to achieve in his career and will be a back up striker with Will Keane and Kyle Waine.

Tom Adeyemi

View attachment 420166

He joins for ?500,000 from Huddersfield and, like it says in his contract, will be a back up midfielder to Jacob Butterfield. If there is an injury he will provide great cover.

Dele Alli

View attachment 420163

Dele moves from his hometown club to join us as one of the brightest centre midfielders in the English game. Leeds submitted a bid for him and that's when we made our move.

Nathan Redmond

View attachment 420159

When we played Norwich last season Nathan ripped us apart so it made sense to bring him in for ?3.3m. Will take over Elliott Bennett as our first choice right winger.

Out

View attachment 420156

A large number of players left the club in the summer, like in last pre-season, whether it be with a permanent or a loan move. Faris Haroun and Justin Hoyte were released after their performances decreased in the last season and are on the wrong side of 30. The two permanent moves involved Emmanuel Ledesma and Richard Smallwood, who moved to Bologna and Celtic. Emmanuel will forever be remembered for scoring the goal that sent us into the Europa League but with Redmond arriving there was no place in the team for him. Richard leaves Middlesbrough as his attributes have started to decrease sharply.

Matches

View attachment 420150

During pre-season we started our Europa League campaign and it was a fairly easy start as we beat Tromso 8-1 over two legs. It was disappointing to not keep a clean sheet in one of the games but it was our first competitive game of the season.

Club News

View attachment 420147

After beating Tromso earlier on we now face Slovan Liberec for a place in the Europa League Group Stages. It could have been a lot worse but I think we should be the favourites for both ties.

View attachment 420145View attachment 420146

Jerome Sinclair was called up to the England squad for the 2016 European Championships and made his debut shortly after. It capped a great few years for the 19 year old after impressing in the three seasons at Middlesbrough.

View attachment 420144

Over the summer we announced a link with Japanese side Jublio Iwata which will allow us to make a presence in Japan which could boost merchandise sales. We are already looking into touring Japan next summer.

Jack Stephens

View attachment 420069

Jack joins the club for ?1.2m from Southampton and will be a backup defender in the squad. Dan Burn hasn't been himself since his lengthy lay off so Jack will replace him on the bench.

Ryan Ledson

View attachment 420067

After three years of trying to sign him, I finally got him in! We paid ?7.5m for him but we had over ?10m left of our transfer budget so thought it would be wise to pay that amount. It's a shame he is over 18 now as I'd have liked to have him trained by the club between 18-21 for European competitions.

Matches

View attachment 420065

August was a good month for Middlesbrough as we only lost one out of the five games we played. We've only played three league games but two of them were against the big guns of Manchester City and Arsenal so one defeat from them two games was excellent. We also beat Slovan Liberec 6-2 on aggregate so we are through to the Europa League Group Stage!

View attachment 420063

Tom Ince continues his form from last season to fire us into the Europa League Group Stages with two impressive free kicks against Slovan Liberec.

League Table

View attachment 420062

Although we are 17th in the league I'm not too worried as we are only three games into the season. We've already played two of the biggest teams in the league so we now have a run of games against 'easier' teams.

2016/17 Europa League Draw

View attachment 420058

Middlesbrough have been handed a tough group for their first season in the Europa League under Michael Henson after being drawn in Group C along with Zenit (RUS), Vitesse (NED) and Anorthosi (CYP). Zenit are the strongest team in the group so Middlesbrough will be lucky to finish higher than them in the group.

View attachment 420053

Middlesbrough start their Europa League campaign at home to Vitesse before heading out to Russia to take on Zenit. They then have back to back fixtures with Anorthosi and will be looking to get six out of six points against the Cypriot minnows. The Boro then wrap up the group stage with the return fixtures against Vitesse and Zenit.

September 2016

View attachment 417269

September was a very mixed month for us as we started it with two good wins before going on a bit of a bad run and then ending it was a superb with against Zenit in the Europa League. It was good to start the Europa League campaign off with a win against Vitesse before an amazing performance away to Zenit secured a 3-0 win. The FA decided to schedule two games within three days of each other so we rested nearly 10 players for the Capital One Cup game and they put a decent performance in but lost 4-2.

Jerome grabbed two goals in the 3-0 win over Zenit and played well in the other games despite losing three games this month.

A bad start to the league campaign as we lie in 15th position with only one win in six games but I'm confident we'll get a few wins soon.

October 2016

View attachment 417192

I think this month could turn our season as we remain unbeaten in five games which included a 3-2 win over Chelsea and a draw against Liverpool. It started off with a grea twin against Fulham at the Riverside before a boring 0-0 draw at Carrow Road. A 3-0 demolition of Anorthosi in the Europa League followed before our two best results of the season so far.

November 2016

View attachment 417176

Another wonderful start to a month but we slowly faded away and ended up not winning for the last three games. We started the month off by qualifying for the knockout stages of the Europa League with a solid win against Anorthosi before beating English giants Manchester United at the Riverside. After the international break we took on bottom of the league Aston Villa but couldn't beat them which was very disappointing. We were 3-0 down at half time against Vitesse as a number of youngsters started due to us already qualifying before Redmond and Austin made the scoreline look respectable.

December 2016

View attachment 417168

We faced seven games in December and we did extremely well to only lose one and draw one game. It started off with the great battle against Zenit which we came out on top in a 5-4 win. It was then two identical results against Swansea and Newcastle. The surprise result came against Hull as we were demolished away from home but bounced back with two wins against Leicester and QPR.
